The tension in the kitchen threatened to melt the tile floors. Grant paced up and down the kitchen floor while Larry sat comforting Audrey at the table.
“How is this possible?” Grant said for the tenth time. “Mermaid?” He repeated the word, disbelieving it. “Impossible. No!” He shook his head. This disturbing revelation was just a nightmare. Just a silly joke, he told himself, either that or his brother was losing his mind. “You’re crazy. Blue is not a mermaid!” Grant was fuming and his voice was close to a roar.
“Calm down and think about it for a minute,” Larry urged but Grant blatantly refused to believe it. Larry continued, “why do you think Venus left? It’s because she was a mermaid and I think when the rest of her kind discovered she was pregnant, and especially with a human’s child, they cast her out of the sea.”
“Stop it! You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Grant slammed his fist angrily on the table.
