<p>Two long days had passed on their journey to Transylvania and most of it had passed in silence. Aside from Ember telling Donovan when she needed to eat or relieve herself, she stayed curled up in the seat, watching the scenery pass during the evening. </p>
<p>Throughout the day, the curtains remained shut and Donovan spent that time resting. </p>
<p>It was dusk on the second day on the road and Ember was rousing from a nap. When she opened her eyes, she looked over at Donovan as she had hundreds of times before. His eyes were still shut and he seemed to be resting. </p>
<p>She couldn’t help but be fascinated by the peaceful look on his face. The usually guarded tension between his eyes and taught jaw were both softened. It made her want to reach out and run her fingers along his cheek. She yearned to see the same kind of peace in his eyes.</p>
