Chapter 27: Price

The entire training ground was a mess of scorched earth and burnt plants. Some of the large trenches cut from the force from Aleanna’s flames started to fill with river water. The forest that surrounded the open space was catching fire, growing by the second. There was so much smoke.

Tavin knelt down and steadied Valina as she clung her leg in pain. Not one, but both bones beneath her knee had snapped and now jutted out, tearing the flesh along with them. Blood was pouring out. It was everywhere.

“Hang on, I’ll get you some help,” he said, almost lamely. He didn’t have the faintest idea what to do.

“Damnit!” Valina shouted, and ripped a large strip of cloth from her scorched, tattered trousers. She wrapped it around her leg and started to tie it off, but her strength was leaving her fast. She was losing too much blood.
