I was shocked uncle George would even suggest a thing. Did he just say he wanted me to go and live with Auntie Elizabeth? Why would he even say such a thing?
"But, why? I thought you said you would never leave me alone. What changed?" I mumbled.
"Listen, this is not about me sending you away. I am just trying to protect you."
"Protect me from what?"
"From my brothers. Do you think this is the last you will be seeing of them? They are my brothers and I know what they are like. They won't stop until you are out of this house. They will do whatever it takes, as long as you are out of this house. Try to understand me."
"No, I can't leave. I don't want to be alone. Please, uncle there must be another way. Please help me." I began to plead with him.
He pushed towards me and held my hands. "I really want to be the one watching over you but you are not safe with me anymore. I have spoken with the lady and she is very happy to have you in her home. Please, understand me and move in with her. I promise I will come get you as soon as all this is over. Okay?"
I nodded sadly. "Okay. When do I leave?"
"I will take you to her this Saturday. So, I guess you should start packing since we don't have much time left. Anyway, have you eaten anything?"
"Yes, I have. I left yours in the kitchen."
"Thank you my dear boy. Alright then, let me leave you to rest. It's already night. You should get some sleep."
I laid in bed and he covered me in my blanket. He kissed my forehead and said good night to me. Then, left the room. I wanted to cry but I had no tears left to shed. I just embraced myself to my future. I gave up hope.
Saturday came quicker than I expected. We were soon at Auntie Elizabeth's house. We were seated in her living room. Her house was as big as my father's house. Well, she is rich as well. She lived in Canada most of her life and has a husband and children there. She came back to the country because she wanted to stay in her homeland.
My uncle sat beside me and Auntie Elizabeth sat on the opposite chair. She was more than happy to have me in her home.
"Welcome to my humble abode. So, can I offer you anything?" she asked us.
I shook my head shyly while Uncle George politely declined. "I am sure you know the reason why we came. I am here to bring Daniel to come stay with you like I said. I will like you to be his new guardian."
Auntie Elizabeth nodded her head. "Of course. You are welcome once again. I am actually happy to have me in my house. You see, I live alone here. My family lives all the way in Canada. So, it's just me and my housekeeper. I will take care of Daniel just as you have asked of me."
Uncle George turned to me. "Daniel, you will be living with Elizabeth from now on. I will be coming over from time to time to come see you. Please, be the good boy you have always been. Do you understand me?"
I nodded and he hugged me. Then he stood up to leave. "Well, I have to take my leave now. I have to go to work. I will be coming by to see him. Thank you very much, madam Elizabeth. You don't know what you have done for me. Thank you."
They shook hands. Auntie Elizabeth offered to walk uncle George out the door. I walked with Auntie Elizabeth as my uncle walked ahead of us. When we were outside, he hugged me one more time and sat in his car. Then, drove off.
I and Auntie Elizabeth walked back into the house. She showed me to my room, where I kept my two medium sized travelling bags. The room was exactly like my room. It was painted with blue paint on the wall and white paints for the ceiling. A king sized bed was in the middle of the room and a study desk sat at the right side corner of the room. There was a bathroom in the adjacent room and a huge closet at the other side of the bed.
I was very happy with the room. I had my own space where I could do whatever I like. I knew Auntie Elizabeth because she is my mother's best friend but that does not mean I was comfortable around her yet. She decided to leave me alone. I looked around the room and laid there on the bed. I thought of all the things I have been through within the past few months. Even though I was sad with everything that happened, I was still grateful someone still cared about me to take me in.
Auntie Elizabeth has decided to take care of my education and my feeding. She basically is taking care of anything I will need while I am staying with her. Soon, I got the admission I had been dreaming about. I was able to go to the high school in the mountains. My uncle did keep his word and visited anytime he could. He told me uncle Stephen and uncle Nathan had taken over my father's properties and we're running them as they liked. Uncle George decided to stay away from them but assured me he will fight them so that I can get back everything My Father left me.
I really did not want Uncle George fishing his brothers on my behalf. So, I politely asked him to just leave everything to them. I did not want the properties. I did not want anything from them. All I wanted was my peace of mind, which I had at the moment. I was happy with where I was and nothing could take that away from me. Or so I thought
