Chapter 21: Renewed Bonds

Ivy came out of the bathroom, water dripping from her hair down to her body. She sat down, towel wrapped loosely around her, and began applying cream to her skin. As she methodically rubbed the lotion in, her thoughts drifted to Anthony. She hadn't seen him since they returned from Damon's empire, and guilt gnawed at her. She owed him a proper thank you and an apology for ignoring him and doubting his loyalty.

The memories of that day replayed in her mind. Anthony had risked everything to save her. Yet, in her paranoia and fear, she had pushed him away, suspecting him of being the traitor. Ivy sighed, realizing how unfair she had been.

Determined to set things right, Ivy finished getting ready and decided to find Anthony. She wanted to clear the air and express her gratitude. She hoped he would understand and forgive her.

She walked through the hallways of the stronghold, asking around for Anthony's whereabouts. Eventually, she found out he was in the tech room, working on something important. Gathering her courage, she made her way there.

As she approached the door, she hesitated for a moment, her hand hovering over the handle. Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. Anthony was hunched over a table, engrossed in his work. The room was filled with various screens and gadgets, the hum of technology creating a background noise.

"Anthony?" Ivy called softly.

He looked up, surprise flashing in his eyes. "Ivy? What are you doing here?"

"I needed to talk to you," she said, stepping closer. "I wanted to thank you properly for everything you did. You saved me, and I never got the chance to show my gratitude."

Anthony smiled slightly. "You don't need to thank me, Ivy. We're all in this together."

"I also need to apologize," Ivy continued, her voice trembling. "I was wrong to doubt you. I let fear cloud my judgment, and I pushed you away. I'm so sorry, Anthony."

Anthony's expression softened. "It's okay, Ivy. We've all been under a lot of stress. I understand why you felt that way."

"No, it's not okay," Ivy insisted. "You've been nothing but loyal and brave. I should have trusted you."

Anthony reached out and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Apology accepted. Let's move forward from here."

Ivy felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Thank you, Anthony. I promise I won't doubt you again."

After a brief silence, Anthony started, "Ivy, I've been meaning to ask... Is this really your real personality? Caring, kind, and a little gullible? The Ivy I met on my way to work that day seemed entirely different from the person I see now."

Ivy looked down for a moment, her expression thoughtful. "Anthony, I suppose you could say I've always had different sides to me. When we first met, I was trying to keep my guard up, protect myself. I've had to be tough to survive in this world."

She met his gaze, her eyes reflecting sincerity. "But underneath that, I do care. I care deeply about the people around me, about our empire. I know I've made mistakes, and I've let fear guide me more than I should have. But I'm trying to be better, to be more honest with myself and with others."

Anthony nodded, understanding dawning in his eyes. "I get it. We all have our defenses. It's just... good to see this side of you too. It makes me believe even more in what we're fighting for."

Ivy smiled, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Thank you, Anthony. For understanding and for giving me a chance to show you who I really am."

Anthony returned her smile. "We're all evolving, Ivy. And as long as we keep supporting each other, we'll make it through."

Ivy looked at Anthony, a hopeful glint in her eyes. "Anthony, do you think we could go out? Just for a bit? I feel like I need a change of scenery, even if it's just for a little while."

Anthony considered her request. "You mean, just the two of us? Like a break from everything?"

"Yeah," Ivy nodded. "I think we both need it. We've been through so much, and it might help clear our minds."

Anthony smiled. "I think that's a great idea. We could use a little time away from all the chaos. Let's do it."

Ivy's face lit up. "Really? That sounds perfect."

Anthony grabbed his jacket and nodded towards the door. "Let's go then. We can take a walk around the old garden outside the stronghold. It's quiet and peaceful there."

Ivy smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and relief. "Thank you, Anthony."

They left the tech room and made their way outside. The garden, though overgrown and wild, had a serene beauty to it. They walked side by side, the tension of the past few days slowly melting away.

As they strolled through the garden, Ivy glanced at Anthony. "I've missed this... just being able to relax and talk without worrying about everything."

Anthony nodded. "Me too. It's nice to have a moment to breathe."

They continued walking, sharing stories and laughter, the bond between them growing stronger with each step. For a while, they forgot about the battles ahead and simply enjoyed each other's company, finding solace in the peaceful surroundings and the warmth of their friendship.

As they walked through the garden, Ivy's voice took on a somber tone. "I miss my mom," she said quietly, her eyes reflecting a deep sadness.

Anthony glanced at her, his expression softening with empathy. "I know the feeling."

Ivy sighed, looking down at the path ahead of them. "She was always my rock, you know? No matter what happened, she was always there for me. And now... I don't even know if she's safe."

"What happened to her?", Anthony asked.

I don't really know, she left when I was 16, she just left me, she sobbed.

Anthony reached out and gently squeezed her hand. "We'll find her, Ivy. We'll do everything we can to make sure she's okay."

Ivy nodded, appreciating his support. "Thank you, Anthony. It means a lot to me. I just feel so lost without her."

Anthony stopped walking and turned to face her, his eyes serious. "You're not alone, Ivy. You have me, and you have all of us. We're going to get through this together, and we'll bring your mom back."

Ivy felt tears welling up in her eyes, but she managed a small smile. "You're right. I need to stay strong, for her and for all of us."

Anthony pulled her into a gentle hug. "We'll get through this, Ivy. We have to believe that."
