To live than get killed
Lin Rehan's fingers suddenly stiffened. She asked in a trembling voice. Her heart skipped a beat after she heard how Aryen addressed her. "What did you just call me?"
Her eyes widened in disbelief. Lin Rehan can't be mistaken, only Lyra has ever called her Mrs Lin when she was still under her supervision. "Did you just call me Mrs Lin?"
Aryen: "..."
Because of her emotion, it was a little too late when Aryen realized what she had called Lin Rehan. She knew that it would be very challenging for her to pretend and lie while living as a new person.
She opened her mouth to speak, but Aryen didn't know what to say. She is not used to lying especially when her emotions are clearly shown in her eyes.
"This can't be.. Are you... Lyra?" Lin Rehan's voice remained shaking as she held Aryen's face between her two hands. She looked at her, scanning her up and down with wide eyes.
Her heart began pumping fast. Aryen didn't know what to do knowing that she failed in pretending to be someone else in front of the person she always treated as her second mother.
Nevertheless, a suspicion suddenly formed in Aryen's mind. Lin Rehan's words made her think that she might knew something about the lab.
Moreover, Aryen remembered that aside from her, there were several employees who went missing the same night that she was taken as a test subject.
With that thought in mind, she took a deep breath and said: "I'm sorry CEO Lin. I am used to calling my elders that way. Please forgive me for my disrespectful greeting."
Unfortunately, Lin Rehan shook her head. "No, the tone you used and the way you spoke, it was the same as my daughter's. You might not look like her but your actions, I can't be mistaken."
"Even though we've only been together for a year, I know my daughter well. It is you.. I know it's you.. But how? What happened to you?" Lin Rehan continued. Not giving Aryen a chance to speak.
Confusion began to spread on Aryen's mind. At first, she thought that Lin Rehan had something to do with the lab, but her words made Aryen have second thoughts.
Aryen's mind is debating with her heart. She kept asking herself if she should tell Lin Rehan the truth or lie and keep pretending.
Nonetheless, her emotions won over her mind, Aryen took a deep breath before she faintly spoke. "If I say that I'm Lyra, will you keep it a secret for me to live and not get killed?"
Aryen's words were like a lightning that struck Lin Rehan's heart. She immediately grabbed her chest like she will have a heart attack after hearing Aryen's claim.
When she almost stumbled on the floor, Aryen immediately held her on her arm and walk towards the sofa to sit. "Mrs Lin, I'm sorry I'll explain everything."
However, before Aryen can say anything more, Lin Rehan pulled her and wrapped her arms tightly around Aryen. Her body was trembling and her voice shaking. "Who did this to you?"
Tears fall on her cheeks. Lin Rehan can't help but cry hard as she tightened her embrace and spoke in an anguished voice. "I won't tell anyone, I promise I will do what I can to protect you. You're my daughter."
Although she had no idea how is it possible for Aryen to look different from what she used to, Lin Rehan can only think of technology. Advance technology that can change someone's appearance.
As for Aryen, Lin Rehan's words were like a soft breeze blowing on her heart. She can't help but to encircle her arms around Lin Rehan and started crying on her shoulder.
"I don't know.. They.. They all experimented on me. I was just lucky to run away." Aryen complained in a crying voice while deep in her heart, she is thankful to have Lin Rehan on her side.
Like a terrible hailstorm that hit Lin Rehan's heart, she felt her body froze after hearing what happened to Aryen. She pushes Aryen from her body to look at her.
"Experiment? They.. Treated you like an animal?!" Lin Rehan's voice cannot hide her anger. Her heart felt like it was being smashed a million times.
