Can't Read Her Mind

Watching Iris, rolling on her bed with her phone high in front of her face, amused him like no other. However, his amusement darkened as he continued to watch her. The longer he observed the girl, the more that he noticed that he could not read her thoughts.

He had noticed it before but he just assumed that she was hiding her thoughts from him. She came from Fleur's family. They have this secret breathing exercise that they do to keep their thoughts at bay. The family upstairs was doing it, although they were not that good at it because they didn't notice that their thoughts still leaked out when they weren't focusing.

But Iris is different. Even in her unguarded moments, he cannot read anything. Every time she tried to read her, he came out empty and utterly frustrated, just like now.

Watching her, smiling, clearly having fun and yet, he can't peek at the reason for her smiles, annoyed the hell out of him. That was the reason why he walked out a while ago. She was giggling by herself and he had no idea why.

He didn't want to ask her. He had no plan to let her know that he can't read her thoughts because it will just make her more annoying than she already was.

He stood in the shadow for another minute before he lost it and gave the wall a small kick that startled Iris and the residents on the first floor.

He knew that they were scared of him and he wanted to keep it that way. This new world that he woke up to was too complicated for him. He had so much to learn and he didn't trust the people that were living in his house.

Especially Iris, the girl who came from the same bloodline as the woman who betrayed his trust.

Iris was tossed on her bed when the annoying old vampire did what he seemed to be a habit of his—kicking the wall. She wondered what he had read from the files that she had given to him for him to act up again.

She put down her phone and pushed herself up the mattress. She stared at the huge gap in the wall under the staircase and sighed. She used to think that this basement was too dreary for a young woman like her.

She was extremely grateful when her father decided to have it renovated. Now, she finds the basement cool and perfect for her if she does not include the fact that she's sharing it with the annoying old vampire.

She has a lot of plans for the basement. She was thinking of building a floor-to-ceiling bookcase under the staircase. She was even saving money for it because she knew her father would not agree to spend more money on her.

More so her mother, would just say that it would be a waste of their already dwindling resources. Her father's business wasn't earning much or some other excuses.

She scoffed, finding her fluffy slippers on the floor. They simply didn't want to spend money on her. Not because they don't have money. Because Monette still enjoyed her whim and caprice. She was studying at a very expensive private school for girls while she was being homeschooled.

Monette enjoys going out and about with her friends, the latest gadgets, shopping for the latest fashion, and visiting cool and hip cafes and restaurants. All of those things needed money and Monette could do them without any problem.

Monette can but she can't. That's the rule in this house. Something that she had accepted to avoid any more heartache. Hence, saving money for whatever she wanted was the answer.

She was glad that they provided her with a computer. It's an old one but she found some friends online who helped her buy some computer parts for her to upgrade her computer without letting her parents know.

Her computer looks fugly but it can run like the latest model. She smirked in the dark.

Her computer is a source of her pride and joy. And income. She learned some skills online that she was utilizing for her to earn money in secret. She had even opened an online bank to save her money. Even though the account was under Monette's name because she stole her ID to open the account.

Monette had no idea that she had an account with enough money to buy the latest phone. The money wasn't much yet, but she had all the intention to grow her cash because once she turned eighteen, she planned to move out of this house.

They weren't her real parents anyway. She was being held hostage in this house to feed the annoying old vampire. If she could find someone else to hide her from those people who wanted to drain her of her blood, it would be perfect.

She looked at the hole in the whole again. She wondered if the vampire that was lying there would help her to execute her plan of independence in exchange for her blood.

'I guess it won't hurt to ask,' she thought to herself. There are a few months left until her birthday. She could observe the annoying old vampire. If not, she had to find someone who could protect her from him.

She is his source of food. She has a feeling that leaving the vampire is going to be a huge problem.

After drinking some water, she returned to her bed. She was able to find some personalities online that came from the Stocker family. A famous online influencer was her source of information. The girl that she started following on her social media is the daughter of one of the owners of the Stocker Corporation.

Her name is Love Stocker. She's a twenty years old girl who likes to travel and attend parties all over the world. She has millions of followers online. And from her account, she was able to find more younger generations of the Stocker family. She wondered if they were also vampires like the one staying inside the hole in her wall.
