Chapter 35: Gorgeous in Green
Alastair takes a breath and looks back at the makeover montage happening in front of him before he responds.
“I don’t know,” he says honestly. “But I don’t think we could have kept living like we were,” he adds gently. He looks back at Azazel when he doesn’t respond and finds his expression morose.
“I also thought we all knew each other better than anyone else could understand,” Alastair confesses. This catches his younger brother’s attention, who looks up at him with wonder.
“I didn’t just keep you guys out of trouble because our parents told me to,” Alastair presses on. “I did it because you were all I had and I’m ashamed to admit I thought I knew you both better than you knew yourselves,” he tones softly, apologetically.
Azazel offers him a sad smile in response. “You still might,” he says, making himself small, as he often does. Alastair furrows his brow and shakes his head.
