Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Carroburg Jackasses vs. Black Rodents

After I sent Joe to the infirmary, Waggy came at me with his grievances. He started accusing me of depriving the team of a good player and so on. Unlike Grim, who was bound by some agreements and could not really object to Waggy, I had the most usual player contract that gave me a certain amount of freedom. Plus I paid all possible debts and now worked only for his wallet. So, not wanting to endure the stream of insults and drool that Waggy covered my trousers with, I simply picked him up and carried him to the toilet, where I helped him to cool down and refresh himself by dunking the halfling in the toilet. And to his guards who were determined to save the day, my boss I sent him to Joe with a couple of powerful punches.

Waggy swore, Waggy threatened, Waggy cried. Waggy apologised. Waggy became my bitch...Hmmm I was going to say Waggy realised how wrong he was and decided not to piss me off anymore.

Maybe it's not a good thing to do to a team sponsor, but this is Blood Bowl world.

After that, the team started to fear me, which helped me avoid having to beat up other team members who wanted to hurt or take advantage of me. Not many people want to mess with a guy who sent his teammate to the emergency room and almost drowned his sponsor in the toilet. There was peace and quiet on the team.

The games with the amateur teams went pretty well. I pulled the whole team again and scored a bunch of touchdowns. But the day came when I had to go up against another professional team.

Thanks to magazines and newspapers, I was able to find out about my future opponents. The Black Rodents weren't the worst Scavengers. But at a certain point, they started to show a tremendous progress. This attracted a lot of money, and with it the attention of many, so one of the journalists conducted an investigation, which revealed the secret of their success.

And it was simple, doping. The coach of the team simply fed his players some hellish mixture of warp stone, vitamins and other chemicals. But the price of such success was high mortality, not on the field, but in it. The rats were simply dying from exhaustion and organ failure, or they were losing their minds, which also led to early death. But the coach didn't care about the fact that he already had to change the entire roster. Skaven players were cheap, and to avoid being seen as new players they were forced to hide their faces and paint their skins black. And to keep them quiet they paid these players a little higher than the standard, and the referee was bribed so that they did not check the players before the game. And so it went on, the players changed, matches were won, the rating increased, the coach got rich, and sponsors and fans rejoiced.

But the opponents were becoming more and more serious and it was incredibly difficult to beat them by simply doping their players. Then the coach decided that there was enough money in the team's budget to buy Rat Ogre, and on the change it was possible to buy a villa with a yacht. At first the coach decided not to risk the expensive purchase and did not feed Rat Ogre with doping, but just used him as a power support for other team members. Again growth in the rating, money, fame and so on. But here again the situation with the opponents was repeated, here the coach, who liked the rich life, decided to take a risk and fed the rat-o-gre with doping.

That match was remembered by the incredible success of the Black Rodents, half of the enemy team was in the infirmary, and the other half unsuccessfully trying to catch the fast rats overgrown. The coach completely forgot about the risk and started doping the Ogre rats every game. The team went up the ranking table again. But this could not last long. At first the referees began to suspect something, well, just rat-ogre was very outstanding compared to other rat-ogres. The referees decided that the team just got a good specimen, but just in case they decided to involve the main suppliers of rat ogres, Clan Moulder. After all, if more of these ogres appear soon, they will have to make some changes to the game and the requirements for the teams.

Which means a lot of money to be made in bribes and lobbying. The bio-engineers from Clan Moulder were shocked to see a relatively young and fresh rat ogre just steamrolling the enemy team's defence. They immediately wanted to take him away and start experimenting on replicating such an outstanding result. But the coach sent them to hell and said that he was not going to lose an important player before the game. After a long negotiation they agreed that after the game he will be replaced by a rat-o-rag, who will be a little worse and will be compensated.

Before the game the coach decided not to lose the opportunity to get a new rat ogre for free and make a lot of money by feeding him a double dose of dope with a warp stone.

This was the very mistake that caused the downfall of the Black Rodents. The brains and health of the rat ogre, undermined by constant doping, could not handle the killing dose. So, when the referee's whistle blew, the rat ogre went on a rampage, so much so that even Khorne's berserkers were wiping away tears of joy and freaking out that it wasn't them on the field. The members of both teams were knocked out almost every minute or went straight to the infirmary, losing teeth, limbs and litres of blood.

The guys from Clan Moulder didn't know whether to cheer or cry, the rat ogre turned out to be a real killing machine, but completely insane and out of control. He suddenly fell to the ground and began to convulse, his body actively mutating, his muscles inflating and bursting like soap bubbles, blood and vomit pouring out of every orifice. The referees suspected foul play by the enemy team, as the Black Rodents had just lost their key player. One of them immediately ran up to the agonising rat ogre, this was a big mistake. The half-dead monster grabbed the ref on instinct and tried to devour him. But then a green lightning bolt travelled through its body and it began to glow. And then it began to disintegrate, glowing with warp like a nuclear reactor. In the end, all that was left in his place was a small green-glowing mound of ashes and the referee's sneakers.

The bio-creatures of Clan Moulder immediately realised what had happened and from the realisation that they had almost been treated like idiots they ran straight to the trainer with the intention of beating him up. I don't know how long he was beaten there, but only the next day his bruised face appeared before the Nafl committee. A long trial began, not because it took a long time to find evidence and investigate, but because the coach was reluctant to give up the money to pay the fines for the Nafl and reputational losses for the Moulder Clan. Apparently he was able to save an insane amount of money to save his life. But he couldn't save the team's ranking. The team's coffers were practically empty, putting an end to a bright future.Players were dying, referees did not give without paying bribes at the rate of guilds to feed the remaining players doping. And the money from matches was barely enough to keep the team from bankruptcy while having to save every penny. What can I say, it's a funny story.

But they are still just a newly rolling professional team that can show some nasty surprises. I turned out to be right, I was convinced of that when I saw that the Black Rodents have a rat ogre in their lineup.
