31 Rain of bullets

A loud scream echoed in the distance, garnering the attention of the commander of the small group of policemen. He stopped in his tracks before turning and staring blankly into the darkness.

"Is everything okay, Officer James?" one of the men worriedly question. They were all inwardly wondering if their commander had made another supernatural discovery.

His gaze lingered in the darkness a second longer before he turned his head and continued down the path they were on. With his head lowered, he told them in a melancholy voice, "It's nothing."

The stoic expression returned to his face as he looked ahead, ignoring the worried and concerned stares of the men around him. "You may proceed moving forward."

The men whispered amongst each other as they walked.

"Did you see his face just now?"

"He looked so sad."
