Jack arranged for Neo to have her hospital care within the comfort of her home by setting up a medical bed in one of their bedrooms. He also went on leave at work so he'd care for his most important patient. All of them were terrified of what would happen in the next four days leading to Neo's birthday.

"So they'll just banish her for being confused?" Gladys asked June. Neo finally put two and two together to figure out why the sea spat her out and told them. "She's been a human all her life so far, how can they expect her to embrace her true heritage in just a few days?"

"I guess the rules are different there," June said while shrugging. "I just don't like that some people hate her so much that they are willing to have her die," June got emotional.

"Those are the merpeople that give merpeople a bad reputation in many African cultures," Gladys said.
