Chapter 50

It feels like I'm floating on air.

So this is what death is like. It's actually rather peaceful.

"Lex."

'Go away,' I want to tell it. I'm finally free from pain. Leave me be. Don't torment me in death too.

"Alex."

"Babe."

"Lexi."

The voices bombard me.

"Give her some space."

I'd recognise that voice anywhere. It's weak and strained, but it's definitely him.

Dad!

The pain is next to come. I want to scream out at the building agony in my ankle.

"Can I get some space here? Nurse, we're going to need to administer some more pain relief."

There is a shuffling and footsteps move around. The sound rings in my ears, along with the rhythmic bleeping of the monitors.

I fall into a slumber once more as everything goes quiet.

I wake to cool air and a nurse as she fiddles with a something beside me. I struggle against the tube in my throat.

"Nurse," Kian's voice sounds nearby and I turn to see his exhausted expression, but he smiles for me. He takes my hand. "It's okay."
