Chapter 27

Mei and I had parted ways for classes and haven't had the chance to catch up since. The sky outside is darkening, signalling the end of day classes and the beginning of the vampire's night classes.

I slink away, hoping not to have been noticed yet by Kian. I catch sight of his hair as I sneak around the corner and press my back into the wall, sighing.

I let another breath out when I hear their classroom door gently click shut.

He didn’t see me. I think.

Or…

He chose not to follow me.

I'm sure he'll bring up our agreement soon. I can't avoid him forever. It feels pretty clear that he has an ulterior motive. I just don't know what it is yet.

I've only become more confused. I feel strange seeing him. Since he told me about our supposed engagement as children, I don't seem to be able to get my thoughts straight.

I don't know how to talk to him anymore. I don't know how to respond. But when he touches me, any resolve I may muster, evaporates.
