Blood And Iron GoT)

Disclaimer: I do not own Game of Thrones or Asoiaf. Disclaimer II:Some stories will feature topics such as torture, rape, sexism and xenophobia. These topics do not represent me, I only seek to give the most historical perspective possible to the social relations of a medieval era. Disclaimer III:I don't speak English, I am in the process of learning, so I will make several grammatical mistakes, any help on the lexicon is accepted, I am not a person so deeply versed in the lore of GoT, the idea comes from a set of games and the person who wants to write it by bad luck got called to compulsory military service, so the duty falls on me while the idiot washes the toilets with the toothbrush.

Ernst doctor POV

''Remember to always keep your suit on, at no time should you hesitate, you can't take it off, if you catch it that's the end of you'' said one of my companions.

''I know, I will be fine and if I get infected, at least I know I did it for science and progress'' I said while I put on my full body leather suit'' I said looking at my fellow doctor.

''If you get infected I recommend you to kill yourself with a lethal dose of morphine because they will probably use you as a guinea pig'' said my partner, handing me a syringe full of morphine.

''Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I catch the disease'' I said, putting the syringe in my bag.

''Good luck, let's hope we can find a cure for this disease'' said my partner, closing what would now be my home for the next few moons.

I had agreed to perform this experiment, I was to cure the Greyscale disease as the locals called it, this is a horrible disease that slowly turns the limbs of the body into rock, then it continues to affect the internal organs until it reaches the brain, when that happens you lose your mind and become a beast that unleashes your wildest senses.

This is a disease that we do not treat because officially it has no cure, the cure that the Prussian officials considered very effective to stop the infection is a crossbow bolt in the head and then burn the body, as you can understand a remedy a little drastic because it causes the death of the patient.

But it was the best that could be done for the person, as much as we investigate texts of the local Masters, there is not a widely accepted way of how to treat it, the best case are books that say 100 cures they applied to a patient, but without describing which was the effective one, but it is not possible to spend so many resources on each person to cure him/her.

Recently, the king had done something incredible for our field of work, he had made some amazing discoveries, he assures that god in a dream showed him techniques to fight diseases, something that I would say is crazy, but without a doubt the discovery is amazing, it is impossible for someone without knowledge to do what he did, maybe the almighty truly gave him visions.

He had created a microscope with enough magnification to see the cells of the human body, as well as what causes it to get sick, bacteria

Besides discovering a mold that produces the death of these bacteria, helping enormously to fight infections, all doctors were ecstatic in this discovery, for years infections have been the major cause of deaths in war and peace, since it only takes a small cut to have a whole infected limb to be amputated and most people die from the excessive pain of the process of removing the limb with a bone saw.

But best of all he managed to improve the production of poppy milk to an injectable version that produces the same effects and much faster he named it morphine after the Greek god Morpheus because in high doses it produces sleep, helped a lot when we had to amputate a limb with a saw.

With these inventions, we have been working tirelessly to find out what Greyscale is, but now we had better knowledge of how this disease affects the human body, we now had a chance.

In addition to finding new, books on the treatment of Greyscale, we had more knowledge than ever to attempt something that many had tried to cure and so far, no one had been able to achieve by documenting the cure for this contagious disease.

For a few moons, I would live here in a cell where I would be kept isolated and where I would have to experiment with many patients to find an effective cure.

This walled complex was built specifically to contain the sick of Greyscale, I will have access to all the men and women who were infected by this disease, but I am also a prisoner like them during this time I will have to perform each and every way that the Maesters of the seven kingdoms claim is necessary to cure this disease.

For the next few hours, I was working to prepare everything I needed, I made my notes about the treatments I had to perform, and I prepared my equipment to work.

When I had everything ready, I finally entered the testing area where many infected people were imprisoned.

I had to experiment with an adult, as recommended by Maester Harlon

(to control the spread of Greyscale the affected area should be treated with lime juice, making sure it is in contact at all times, the acidity of the lime would prevent the spread of the disease from continuing and eventually the skin will stop getting infected leaving the infected area hardened, but eliminating the possibility of the disease spreading further).

Lime juice, it's a joke?, if a disease could be treated with just lime juice it wouldn't be the most horrible disease we have ever encountered, but well I can't do much, I have to do this experiment even though I will probably end up killing the test subjects because I don't consider this to be a treatment.

''You get undressed'' I said looking at a prisoner.

''What are you going to do to me?'', asked the man.

''I'm not asking you, obey test subject 101'' I said with a serious tone.

The test subject took off his clothes, and it could be seen that half of his arm was infected with the disease.

''Well you meet the requirements, follow me we will try treatments with you to cure you'' I said as I opened the cell

''thank you... thank you'' said the man.

''Don't thank me this is experimental, you could die anyway, but your life could save many'' I said as we walked to the testing room.

Arriving at the test room, I made the test subject sit on a chair where I strapped him down, so I could continue.

''As this experimentation does not require very invasive methods, I will not use any pain reducing elements'' I said as I began to pour lime juice on the infected area.

The test subject showed signs of discomfort because the lime must be entering the infected area and because of its acidity it must be doing something to the infected skin.

After finishing with the test subject, I repeated the process with 9 more test subjects, in order to have a statistical probability of cure with the treatment.

After finishing the day's work, I removed my clothes and incinerated them to prevent the disease from spreading to me.

Then I proceeded to puncture all my fingers with a needle to make sure I still felt pain, if not I had to amputate my limb immediately, luckily, everything was in order.

283 AC fourth moon

it has been 30 days since the lime juice tests began and my results are terrible.

Test subject 101: the disease continues to spread and no improvement in his condition.

Test subject 102: subject went mad from the disease, he had to be eliminated and incinerated.

Test subject 103: disease continues to spread, no improvement in his situation

Test subject 104: subject has gone mad from the disease, he should be eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 105: disease continues to spread, no improvement in his situation

Test subject 106: test subject committed suicide by biting his tongue, but showed no improvement on treatment, subject was incinerated

Test subject 107: disease continues to spread, no improvement in his situation

Test subject 108: subject went insane from the disease, he should be eliminated and incinerated.

Test subject 109: disease continues to spread, no improvement in his situation

Test subject 110: disease continues to spread, no improvement in his situation

(After the analysis of 10 test subjects for 1 moon, under my experience and the scientific method I declare that the method of Maester Harlon is inefficient and does not present improvements in the test subjects because this treatment has an effectiveness of 0%)

I finished registering my report and after sterilizing everything that has been in contact with me, I handed my report and waited for instructions to continue investigating.

After waiting for a few hours, my superiors asked me to use the following treatment

Mustard poultice from Maester Vaegon

(Mustard poultice should be applied directly to the dead skin and then bandaged tightly, the mustard poultice should moisturize the skin causing the roughness to be removed and in time the hardened skin should fall off).

After I finished reading the book, I began to prepare the materials I would need to continue researching to find a cure.

I went back to the prisons and went to look for new test subjects, unfortunately we cannot reuse the ones that were tested before because a cure could occur, and the main problem would happen again, too many treatments were tested, and we do not know the real cure.

I strapped the test subject and began to apply the mixture between the crack of the hardened skin until the area was completely covered with mustard poultice, the test subject showed no discomfort to the application of this ointment, so no pain control was applied.

I began to bandage his affected extremities until he was completely covered, when I finished I took him back to his cell to continue with 9 more test subjects.

At the end of the day, I burned my clothes and went back to test to see if I was infected, luck was still on my side, I still felt pain in my fingers.

283 AC fifth moon

After 1 moon of studies on my test subjects, mustard poultice proved to be ineffective

Test subject 201: subject went mad from the disease, had to be eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 202: subject showed temporary improvement during the first week, the disease did not progress, but with the passage of time it became even more aggressive.

Test subject 203: the disease continues to spread and there is no improvement in his situation.

Test subject 204: subject driven mad by the disease had to be eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 205: subject driven mad by the disease had to be eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 206: the disease continues to spread there is no improvement in his condition

Test subject 207: disease continues to spread with no improvement in his condition

Test subject 208: subject driven mad by disease should have been eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 209: subject driven mad by the disease should have been eliminated and incinerated

Test subject 210: the disease continues to spread and there is no improvement in his situation.

(After the analysis of 10 test subjects for 1 moon, under my experience and the scientific method I declare that the method of Maester Vaegon is inefficient and does not show any improvement in the test subjects because this treatment has an effectiveness of 0%).

Another failed experiment, my test subjects had very advanced stages of the disease, so this was their only chance to be saved, but unfortunately the treatment is useless.

I got permission to perform an autopsy on several subjects who had died and when I began to extract their internal organs I realized that all their organs were covered by an aggressive calcification, lungs, liver, heart and even the testicles, in the female case I found a completely calcified uterus.

But my surprise was when I opened the head of a man who went crazy, the brain was also calcified, it was more like a rock than anything else, something strange, since the brain is liquid when the skull is opened.

From this autopsy, I was able to discover that the disease uses calcium from the bones because most of those affected show significant deterioration in the bones and probably also draw calcium from the subject's diet.
