Graduation.

My eyes opened and I was hit with a smell that I recognised all too well. The smell of a hospital. I was in the recovery area of the academy. I looked down at my body and saw a bandage wrapped around my waist. Next to me was my clothes were placed on a chair and my sword was placed on the side of the chair. What struck me as odd, was that my sword hadn't gone back into its sealed form. It stayed in its Shikai state. A nurse came over to me with a notepad in hand.

"Good morning Mr Ryo. How are you feeling?" She asked

"I'm feeling fine. How long was I asleep for?"

"Around a day. The captain of the 7th division brought you here. You had quite the nasty wound. You passed out due to fatigue."

"I see. Am I allowed to leave?" I requested

"Yes. The headmaster has requested to see you."

The headmaster? He probably wants to talk about the incident.

"Understood." She left and I begun to get changed. I placed my sword on my waist and made my leave.

The problem with the headmaster's office was that it was at the top of the school so it was a pain to walk up there. It took me a while to get up there and when I did I knocked on the door. "Come in." a voice shouted.

The office was incredibly neat nothing was out of place. The headmaster was an old man, he had a grey beard, shiny bald head and an incredibly short stature. "Ah Mr Ryo sit down" He pointed at the chair in front of him. I took my place on the seat.

"Are you feeling better Mr Ryo?" He asked

"Yes, Sir."

"That's good to hear. I heard from the 7th division that you managed to take out 3 adjuchas without much trouble. What do you have to say about this."

"There were 5 of them sir. I managed to unlock my Shikai at such a convenient time" I answered. The headmaster raised an eyebrow.

"What you accomplished was no ordinary feat, Mr Ryo. You took out 5 adjuchas class on your own and suffered almost no serious injuries. The AKdjuchas that you fought were on the same level of 3rd seats. You're lucky that they weren't captain level ones."

"Thank you for your praise sir, I have the academy to thank for training me" I replied. The headmaster's eyes narrowed.

"Kumagawa Ryo it is time for you to graduate. We have nothing more to teach you. you have a mastery over all four shinigami arts. There is no need for you to take the graduation test. The head captain has assigned you to a division along with a seated officer position. So congratulations Mr Ryo."

"Sir if you don't mind me asking what division have I been assigned to?" I inquired.

"If I remember correctly, you've been assigned to the 10th division as their 5th seat"

5th seat? Wow, I wasn't expecting that

"Sir when do I leave."

"Today. An escort will come to pick you and take you straight to the 10th division barracks."

I stood up out of my chair and prepared to leave. "Thank you, headmaster. I need to get prepared."

"I wish you good luck Ryo."

Captains meeting during the day of the incident.

"He certainly is an interesting one." The captain of the 5th division, Hironaka Kame, stated in a lazy tone. He had pitch-black hair, tired green eyes and a bored expression.

"Yeah 3 of them on his own? and he's only in his first year" The captain of the 3rd division, Takata Chika stated. She was quite a tall woman, she had red hair which was made her unique amongst the captains.

"Kumagawa Ryo. I've decided that he will graduate before most students. Is anyone willing to take them into their squad."

Captain Unohana wondered, she wanted Kumagawa in her squad but he didn't have much experience in Kaido.

"Head captain, I'll take him into my squad if you don't mind."A gentle voice spoke out. He had messy snow-white hair and piercing brown eyes. He stood at 5'8 and had a very kind face. He looked particularly dishevelled. The inside of his white haori was a dark green.

"Are there any objections to Kumagawa Ryo joining squad 10 under captain Kenji" The head captain said.

"No" They all declined.

"Very well. Kumagawa Ryo is now a member of the 10th division."

When I got to my door I saw that Hikifune was waiting at my door. "Hey Kumagawa where were you, I've been waiting here for a while," She said.

"Sorry I was with the headmaster" I replied

"What did he talk to you about?" she inquired. I got my keys for my dorm out and began opening the door.

"Oh he was just telling me that I was graduating," I said in a deadpan voice.

"WHAT. You're graduating already." She shouted. People who were walking by turned their heads at what they heard.

"Stop making a scene and get in" She walked in the room and sat on the bed. "You really give me a headache you know."

"Wow, Kuma. You are the youngest person to graduate in ever. Do you know when you're going."

"Yeah, today. Someone is coming to pick me up."

"Ah so soon. You're going to miss your number 1 super best friend right?" She said with a sad voice.

"Yeah sure." I really was. Hikifune was the only friend I had in the time that I'd been in the academy.

"Yay! Do you know what division you'll be joining."

"I'll be in the tenth division." A knock on the door could be heard. I walked up to the door and I opened it. A huge bulky guy could be seen.

"You're Kumagawa right." I nodded. "I'm Hideo and I've been sent to escort you to the 10th division barracks." He gave me a standard shinigami uniform. "Please wear this and we will leave."

"Ok thank you" I closed the door and turned around to Hikifune."Close your eyes I need to get changed. She placed both her hands over her eyes and turned around. I quickly got changed and placed my sword on my waist.

"Ok, you can turn around now."

"The shinigami uniform really suits you" She pointed out.

"It's surprisingly comfortable," I remarked.

"So I guess this is goodbye," She said in a sad tone

"Yeah, I guess. You'll see me around I'm sure. Try not to get in any trouble." I reassured her.

"I won't make any promises." She teased.

we both left the dorm and Hikifune said her final goodbyes and left. "Hideo I'm ready to leave."

"Try to keep up with me rookie," He said as disappeared in a blur.

I sighed. This was gonna be a drag.

For such a bulky guy Hideo was really fast. We made it to the 10th division barracks 20 minutes after we left the school. Hideo informed me that the captain wanted to see me when we arrived he took me to the captain's office.

Hideo took his leave and left me on my own. I knocked on the door and opened it when a voice told me to enter.
