"Where am I?". In a deserted area, a young man with bright pink hair and a smooth face could be seen walking down a path looking for any signs of civilisation. He had arrived here 1 day ago and he hadn't seen anyone. He was hungry, tired and scared. The only thing he could remember was the memory of his death. He was wearing a black kimono and sandals which was odd because he didn't own any of those. The young man continued walking for two more hours until he had finally found what he was looking for. A village. He broke out into a sprint and ran towards the village. When he entered the village he walked around for a couple of minutes then passed out due to fatigue.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He woke up in some sort of hospital. He didn't remember coming here or even seeing this place. The last thing he remembered was seeing a village
"You're finally awake". I looked up and saw a petite woman with soft blue eyes and long black hair, she had a katana on her waist which had a purple hilt and an oval-shaped guard
"Where am I" He inquired. He wanted to know where the hell he was.
"You're in the Seireitei. This is the 4th division hospital. A member of the 7th division found you in the 27th district of Rukongai. We found you on the verge of death, you were exerting a high amount of reiatsu which attracted a hollow to you. You were lucky that a shinigami happened to be around at the time"
Seireitei, 4th division, hollow, reiatsu? what was she talking about? He had never heard these terms in his entire life.
"Ma'am whats reiatsu? and whats a hollow?" He wanted to get as much knowledge about this.
"Please call me captain Unohana, ma'am makes feel old" He nodded. "to answer your question you have something inside you called reiryoku which is the amount of energy you have within you while reiatsu is the pressure that your reiryoku exerts. To answer the second question hollows are a race of creatures which are born from Human souls who, for various reasons, do not cross over to Soul Society after their death and stay in the Human World for too long they are corrupt spirits with supernatural powers which devour the souls of both living and deceased humans."
"So because I have high amounts of reiatsu the hollow was attracted to me. How do you kill a hollow?"
"All hollows have a mask on their head, by splitting that in two that's how they are killed, however any wound that would normally kill a human is enough. We use our zanpakutos to kill hollows, but you can also use something called kido. "
'kido and zanpakuto' he thought. I'll have to read about that later.
"Captain Unohona you said that you were a shinigami. what do they do?"
"Being a shinigami is an incredibly dangerous job. They purify hollows who do evil in the world of the living by performing a soul burial. Most shinigami join the Gotei 13 which is the military branch of the soul society. There are 13 captains in the Gotei 13 each captain is exceptionally
strong. The head captain is the strongest captain and is over 2,000 years old."
'2,000 years old? how is that possible. Does this mean that shinigami age differently to humans?'
"Unohana-san how old are you?" Captain Unohana looked quite young.
"Didn't your mother tell you not to ask a woman her age." She had an incredibly scary smile on her face.
"M-my apologies Captain Unohana I should've been more considerate" He stuttered "Captain Unohana how does a zanpakuto work? Is your Zanpakuto your sword?" He said trying to change the topic quickly
"Ah, so you noticed my sword. Zanpakutō are the trademark weapons of the Shinigami. Capable of cutting spiritual bodies, they are among the few weapons which can be used to combat Hollows. Every zanpakuto has a name which you must learn to use it at it's fullest capacity. To get a zanpakuto you first get an asauchi. All Shinigami must spend every waking moment with their own Asauchi, and as they progress in their training, they slowly and methodically imprint the essence of their soul into their Asauchi. This is how they guide and mould their unique Zanpakutō."
"where do you acquire these asuichi?"
"you get them in the academy" she responded.
"so what kind of special powers do you get," he asked
"All zanpakutos have 2 forms a Shikai and a Bankai. To activate a Shikai you must know your zanpakutos name. The powers of your Shikai can range from creating fire to healing comrades. A Bankai is the final release form of your zanpakuto. To achieve it you have to subjugate their zanpakuto spirit. It takes 10 years to achieve a Bankai" she recited.
"10 years? why that long?" he inquired
"The biggest flaw of Bankai lies in the overwhelming power it releases. Its power and form are often far beyond those of a normal weapon, which is why one needs to train at least 10 years with Bankai for one to become capable of using it completely and effectively." Unohana explained.
"If you're a captain then you must have a Bankai right?"
"Yes all captains need to have a Shikai and a Bankai."
"Captains? How do you become a captain?"
"There are three ways to become a captain. 1) A test which requires the ability to perform Bankai. Nearly all Shinigami become captains using this method. At least three existing captains, including the Captain-Commander, have to witness the test. 2) to have recommendations from 6 captains and approval from at least 3 of the remaining 7 captains. 3) To defeat a captain in 1 on 1 combat with at least 200 witnesses."
"Can you tell me the structure of the divisions?"
"it's simple. The captain is the head and the lieutenant is the second in command. Seated officers are the remainder of the officers in the Gotei 13 which hold ranks at or below 3rd Seat. The captain is the 1st seat and the lieutenant is the 2nd seat."
"How would one become a shinigami?"
"I see. So you want to become a shinigami? You have to enrol into the Shin'ō academy for 6 years to learn all the fundamentals of becoming a shinigami. After that, you choose a division to join. Each division specialises in something different. My division is for healing and treating injured shinigami."
"Thank you very much captain Unohana for healing me and talking to me." She stood up and began to leave but she turned around and asked a question.
"I don't believe you told me your name, young man."
"My apologies. My name is Kumagawa. Kumagawa Ryo.
This chapter was so he could familiarize himself with his surroundings.
