Blair set her gaze at a big dwarf clock that was pushed beside her black antique vanity. It was six in the morning and school started at eight. She couldn't sleep, she even turned and tossed on the bed and still couldn't drift into sleep.

She kept on thinking about yesterday. She knocked three vampires into the house barrier and it collapsed. Their corpses would vanish, but the outfits they wore would remain on the place. She bet school would be alarmed by that or even become news in the box. She fought with her own mind whether she should go to school or not, but maybe it was no use being absent for a long time because you still had to attend school at last.

Groaning, Blair rolled off from her queen-sized bed. She stood in front of her vanity, observing her reflection on the mirror. Her overgrown auburn hair sometimes was annoying that it was always tousled.

She tied her hair into a low ponytail as she reached for a blade from her vanity's drawer and cut her hair. A few seconds later, a lock of long auburn hair was on Blair's grasp.

She observed at her now short hair that reached her neck, it was jagged and messy.

"Oh my God," she glared at her hair. "This is a mess," she wagged her hair as strands of it fell on her shoulder.

Looking at the clock again, it was still early in the morning and maybe she could just wear a hoodie and hide her choppy hair with the veil.

Blair released a sigh and plopped herself on her bed not worrying the strands of her hair would fall there. She closed her eyes, imagining Gemma's reaction seeing her short hair. Gemma really fond of her long hair and would plaid her hair or style in many styles. She would probably faint or cry all day and night because she couldn't style her long hair anymore.

She pried her eyes open and rose from her bed, heading to the bathroom with a maroon hoodie and black track trousers on her left arm.

She had left the rest of her clothes in a pile on the floor. She was standing in the shower, letting the water run down over her face, her hair, and her body. The warm water pampered her muscles as she felt relaxed.

She poured herself a shampoo and tilted her head, she started working the lather into her hair. She scrubbed and massaged her scalp with her fingers.

Blair took up a bar of soap and lathered it between her hands. She put her soapy hands on her body and scrubbed every inch of her body. The soap had a strong smell of rose. When she was done, she tilted back her head, let the warm water ran over her until it ran clear.

She turned the shower off and stepped out of the chamber, reaching for a mahogany red towel and wrapping herself with it.

She stared at her reflection on the big mirror: her auburn hair was wet and chaotic, droplets of water dripped over her shoulders. It was unusual seeing her short hair since she always saw herself with long hair. Thinking of hair maybe she could ask for Gemma's help to trim her hair. But it was quite ludicrous trimming someone's hair at school, maybe some students would whisper to each other that they open a hair trimming jockey at school.

Blair brushed the towel into her hair so that there was no water dripping down her shoulders again. She reached for a blow dryer and dried her hair.

There were several benefits to having short hair: first, you didn't have to put too much shampoo so you could economise your shampoo expenses; second, you could economise your shampoo so it wouldn't finish instantly; third, you didn't have to dry your hair for a long arse time since short hair dried faster.

Blair turned off the dryer and grumbled how noisy and deafening the dryer's sound was. She wished there was a dryer specially created for vampires where there was no blowing sound since vampires had sensitive ears.

She slid on her undergarments and clothes. After done, she kicked her pyjama that was on the floor to a basket which actually was tossed inside.

Strolling back to her room, she took up a comb from her vanity's drawer and let it stroke her hair.

Several strands of her hair fell on her face as she swiped them up and tugged her hoodie veil, covering her hair.

Blair dashed her feet to downstairs, her feet thudding on the surface of the stairs. The moment when she arrived at the first floor, her amber gaze locked at a huge family portrait that was hung above the stone fireplace.

In the portrait, Blair was still eight years old. She was standing beside her mother, her expression was indecipherable. Her hair was neatly tugged back into a high ponytail with a silky black ribbon, she was wearing a red dress with black lace sewed at the hem of the skirt and the sleeves. Her mother, Lindsey, was sitting on a red luxurious chair. Lindsey's brown hair was short and wavy, she was wearing a tight black dress that reached above her knees, her slender legs crossed and her feet were wrapped with red stilettos. Her father, Zachary, was a hefty man with a white shirt hugged his bulky body, his auburn hair was gelled back. A black suit was hung on his left forearm. He was standing behind Lindsey, his expression was serious.

Blair dazed for a few minutes, thinking of her parents right now. She didn't even know where they were, where did they go, were they still alive. She laughed bitterly, despite they lived in a modern era where technology was burgeoning rapidly, everyone must have a phone. They didn't even send any message for Blair as if she never existed in this earth.

Sighing, she rolled her eyes at that thought and made her way towards a tremendous refrigerator. Pulling it open, dozens of blood sachets filled the fridge. There was nothing in this refrigerator except for gore. She took out two blood sachets and slammed it shut.

Poking it, she gulped the blood and turned to look at the clock. Without realising, it was already seven. She remembered about her plan on asking Gemma to help her trimming her choppy hair.

It was impossible if she covered her head in her hoodie veil when the class started. Ms. Todd would definitely scowl at her and ask her to pull it off. And the moment when she'd pull off the veil, exposing her ridiculous hair, everyone in the class would laugh their downward coconuts off.

She shook off her thoughts after finishing the blood as she tossed it in the rubbish bin.

Blair threw her blue rucksack into her shoulders as she slid on her white sneakers.

Stepping out of the house, she was greeted by the morning breeze. The sky was blue, with white clouds dancing in the sky, covering the sun as its luminosity peeked through the uncovered part. The weather wasn't chilly and wasn't hot at the same time; it was warm and comfortable, which was relaxing. Trees and flowers festooned the sidewalks and houses' front yards.

Blair inhaled the air deeply as she closed her eyes, then exhaled it, fluttering her eyes open.

She wished she could stay peacefully like this forever, without even concerning herself as a pureblood vampire. She yearned vampires existence in this earth were accepted by mundanes, and of course with no stupid intruders that loved to mess other people's lives.

She walked and walked, admiring the nature God had created. When she passed a mansion with a huge garden at the front yard, her heart melted in warmth.

Several magnolia trees were planted in left and right sides, its pink petals perched at the corner of the twigs. Hyacinths, roses, hydrangeas, and lilies enlivened the front yard. A man in his early fifties with a baseball cap was watering the flowers as he hummed a song that Blair recognised.

"Somewhere beyond the sea, somewhere waiting for me, my lover stands on golden sands, and watches the ships that go sailing," he hummed under his breath as a satisfied smile appeared. He stood with his hands on his hips and looked around the garden with papa's-proud-of-you expression.

Without Blair knowing, her usual tense mouth that had a hard time smiling, finally curved up into a smile. She knew the song since her father always played it when he was still living with her.

She resumed walking and a few minutes later, she had passed the collapsed old house. A sudden surprise feeling hit her as she fastened her pace towards the school. Her heart was hammering against her ribcage as she planted her feet on the schoolyard.

She could hear students whispering to each other about the collapsed house. Did not want to hear, Blair pulled the hoodie cords as the rim of the veil curled and a large circle was pressed on her face. She walked fast, her head held down.

Once she had stepped her feet on the locker hallway, she turned her head around, searching for Gemma and praying that she had come around this hour. She didn't care the other students glanced at her suspiciously.

Her amber gaze caught a glimpse of a petite girl with chest-length wavy ebon hair. She yawned as one of her hands covered her mouth and the other clutched her rucksack's strap.

Sighing, Blair made her way to Gemma. Her expression was relieved.

"Gemma," she called, making the name owner jerk her head up as a smile plastered her face.

"Hey!" she beamed, fastening her pace to Blair. She tilted her head questioningly seeing Blair covered her hair with hoodie veil. It wasn't like her usual self. "Why do you cover your hair?"

"Come on, follow me," Blair grabbed her wrist and hauled her off. Before she dashed away, she turned to Brett; Gemma's younger brother who was walking behind his sister, and said, "borrow me your sister."

Brett; who had a crush secretly on Blair, stunned. His cheeks turned into a shade of red and nodded.

"B, What happened? Spill the beans, don't do this to me!" Gemma said hastily, following Blair's pace from behind.

Blair bit her inside mouth as she pushed the girl's toilet door open. Luckily no one was here, so they couldn't witness Blair's ridiculous hair.

Taking a breath, she turned and put her hands on Gemma's shoulders. "I cut my hair," she said.

Gemma's expression turned surprised that her jaw almost touched the floor. And Blair's thought was oddly accurate, Gemma became hysterical.

"Oh my God, why?" she almost yelled as her voice echoed in the toilet. She pulled the veil off and saw Blair's untidy short hair. Gemma swore she could faint at this moment with white bubbles filled her mouth.

Blair looked guilty as she reached her rucksack's and pulled out a scissor. "Please help me trim my hair." She handed it to Gemma.

Gemma slapped her forehead, she looked like she was about to cry. "Why did you do this? Why did you do this? Why did you cut your freaking hair?" she babbled.

Blair let out a small laugh seeing her reaction. Gemma finally began to trim her hair conscientiously that her eyebrows narrowed.

A few minutes of silence passed as Blair looked at her reflection on the mirror. Her hair was looking better, the rim of her hair was as straight as a ruler.

Gemma snorted, her face grim as she crossed her forearms over her chest. She puffed her cheeks that she sometimes looked like Mrs. Puff from Spongebob Squarepants cartoon.

"I can't braid your hair anymore. Huh, why did you cut your hair though?" grumbled Gemma.

Blair grimaced, patting off the remnants of her hair to the floor. "It's annoying. Always tangled and I had a hard time combing my hair." She said. "Thanks by the way."

Gemma sighed. "Sure, anyway, I'm going inside," she said, handing Blair her rucksack and locking herself inside a chamber.

Blair leaned against the ceramic wall, hugging Gemma's cherry red rucksack. She felt her eyes were tired and heavy. 'Shoot, sleepiness begins to hit', she thought, rubbing her eyes and yawning.

A minute passed and Gemma came out, followed by water flushing sound behind her. She retrieved her rucksack from Blair, throwing one strap at her left shoulder and muttering thank you at her.

They headed out of the toilet and made their ways towards their class.

"Blair Thompson?"

A voice called as Blair turned back. A girl with hazel brown hair stood behind them, her expression indecipherable.

"Mr. McCabe wants to meet you. He told you to meet him at his office." She said.

'What the hell', Blair thought, her eyebrows narrowed. She turned to Gemma who was blinking her eyes in puzzlement.

"I'll go first," she said, earning a nod from Gemma.

Blair stalked off, several thoughts came in her mind. Did he want to talk about yesterday? Did he want to kill her because she had murdered his subordinates?

She pushed the office door open and saw Azrael sitting on his massive navy blue chair, his right elbow rested on the armrest. His jet black hair was gelled and a dark grey shirt wrapped his torso. He wore a smirk.

"What," she demanded flatly.

Azrael chuckled, leaning his back against the backrest and planting his shoes at his desk. He crossed his forearms over his chest. "How polite," he said sarcastically, earning an eye roll from Blair.

"Now, what?"

"I want you to join my association," he said bluntly.

Blair snorted. "You call me here just to say that? No, thanks. I don't want to join your association," she said. "I just want to live peacefully," she emphasised.

Azrael raised an eyebrow at her and tilted his head. "Live peacefully? You know what are you? You're a pureblood. The most dangerous vampire in this world. Mundanes can't ever accept us and they'll always call us monster. Isn't it better if you join us, kill all mundanes so we can take a charge over this world?"

'You're also a pureblood, you dumbshit. Do you think I'm the only one who's dangerous', Blair thought to herself. "No," she declared. "If you're going to pursue me again, then I'll take my leave, excuse me."

A click sound hit Azrael's ears as Blair disappeared behind his office door.

"Next time is the last time and if you still reject my offer, you will regret everything." He muttered.
