3 The Decision

Kaito's journey to the elven forest began with a decision made in the dead of night. The village, though familiar and comforting, had become a place of painful memories. Every corner reminded him of his parents, every face a reminder of what he had lost. The mysterious blade he had discovered seemed to whisper to him, urging him to seek answers beyond the village borders.

The night he left, the village was bathed in moonlight. He had packed a small satchel with essentials: dried meat, a water flask, and a blanket. His heart ached as he took one last look at his home. But the pull of the unknown was stronger, and he knew he couldn't ignore it.

The forest lay a day's journey from the village. The path was treacherous, winding through rocky terrain and dense underbrush. Kaito moved with determination, his mind filled with questions. Why had the blade chosen him? What destiny awaited him in the elven forest?

As dawn broke, he reached the outskirts of the forest. The towering trees seemed to beckon him, their branches swaying gently in the breeze. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the shadowy embrace of the forest.

By midday, fatigue began to weigh on him. He paused to rest, sitting on a fallen log and taking a long drink from his flask. As he rested, his thoughts drifted to the conversation he had with the village elder before he left.

"You're leaving, aren't you?" Elder's voice was soft but knowing.

Kaito nodded, unable to meet the elder's gaze. "I have to. The blade... it calls to me. I can't explain it, but I feel like there's something I need to do."

The Elder placed a hand on Kaito's shoulder. "The elven forest is a place of great mystery and danger. The elves are not known for their kindness to outsiders. But if your heart tells you to go, then you must follow it. Remember, Kaito, you carry not just a blade, but a legacy. Be wise and be careful."

"I will, Elder," Kaito promised. "Thank you for everything."

His rest was interrupted by a rustling in the bushes. He sprang to his feet, hand on the hilt of the blade. A deer emerged, its large eyes staring at him for a moment before darting away. He chuckled at his jumpiness, but the encounter reminded him of the forest's unpredictability.

Pressing on, the forest seemed to grow denser. The light filtered through the leaves in a greenish hue, casting an ethereal glow. The sounds of the forest were both soothing and unsettling, a symphony of life that was foreign to his ears.

As the light began to fade, Kaito found a small clearing and decided to set up camp. He gathered some dry wood and managed to start a small fire, its warmth and light a comforting presence in the encroaching darkness. He unrolled his blanket and lay down, staring up at the canopy of leaves above.

As he drifted into a restless sleep, a soft whisper seemed to float through the air. "Kaito..."

He sat up, heart pounding. "Who's there?" he called out, his voice trembling.Silence.He lay back down, trying to convince himself it was just his imagination. But as sleep overtook him, the feeling of being watched never quite left him.
