Vixen Above, Mensao Below (9)

Ye Minzhe had found out a room that was left unlocked. The zombies were hot on their heels, so as soon as all of them entered, they hurriedly locked the door.

Bam!

The heavy weight of the zombies slammed against the door with alarming force, startling a shocked shout out of Song Jia. Ye Minzhe and Gu Yuan started dragging a large cabinet towards the door, pushing it forward and making sure the door stayed shut.

The heavy banging didn't stop until nearly a quarter of an hour passed. When they couldn't hear anything anymore but silence outside, all of them breathed a sigh of relief.

Ye Minzhe grabbed Song Jia's arm. "Stay with him, don't go anywhere yet. I haven't checked the whole room, there might be more of them hiding in here."

"Alright," Song Jia nodded.

She watched as Ye Minzhe tightly gripped the baseball bat and entered the bathroom to check it. Surprisingly, he was very thorough at doing a sweep of their surroundings. He even checked underneath the bed and the closet where a small enough person could hide.

As soon as he was done, Ye Minzhe slid down the wall and sat there, waiting for his heartbeat to slow down. He felt a sense of relief wash over him as he relaxed his hold on his baseball bat.

"It's clear," he told Song Jia, the corners of his lips slightly turned upwards.

Gu Yuan's legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed on the floor. "I thought we were going to die."

Song Jia also took in a deep breath, before walking towards the bed and sitting down. She also thought that they were going to die.

"Sorry."

The almost inaudible voice made Song Jia look towards Ye Minzhe. His look of absolute chagrin surprised her. He cleared his throat and crossed his long legs, his hands resting on his lap. He raised his face and solemnly repeated his words again.

"I'm sorry. A man should readily admit his mistakes, I know that. So I'm sorry. That was my fault. I shouldn't have exposed our position to them."

Song Jia was stunned. That arrogant young master actually knew how to apologize for his mistakes?

Ye Minzhe picked up his baseball bat and stood up. He then walked over to Song Jia and handed it to her.

"Our father always said that a true man wouldn't put his comrades in danger. Today, I broke this rule. Ye Jia, as a member of the Ye family, you have the right to punish me."

He knelt in front of her and bowed his head.

"A man should always keep his word. You can beat me as many times as you like."

Song Jia, "..."

Was their father truly a gangster, or was he a knighted warrior? What kind of backward family rule was this?

Song Jia hesitated, then adopted a solemn expression. She raised the baseball bat high in the air. Gu Yuan looked at them nervously.

"Since you said this, then Ye Minzhe, better prepare yourself well. I won't go easy on you."

Ye Minzhe closed his eyes. "I  have already accepted my fate."

Song Jia adjusted her grip on the baseball bat...

And then used her free hand to deck him.

"Ye Minzhe, are you an idiot? Why would I go and commit animal abuse?"

Ye Minzhe almost coughed blood in anger.

"Ye Jia, I only told you to physically hit me, not insult me as well!"

"It wasn't my fault you were born an idiot."

"Who's the idiot? You're the idiot! Your whole family are idiots!"

Ye Jia, "..."

Ye Minzhe, "..."

Gu Yuan shook his head with a smile. These two half-siblings got along better than he thought they would. He struggled to his feet and walked towards the closet, rifling through the clothes. It seemed that there was a man and a woman living here, because there were clothes for both male and female.

"I'm going to take a shower for a bit," he told them, not looking at Song Jia.

Ye Minzhe waved a hand. "Go ahead, I can smell the piss on you a mile away."

Gu Yuan's face turned red. He hurriedly went carrying a stack of clothes into the bathroom.

Song Jia elbowed Ye Minzhe, making him grunt. "Teacher Gu being scared was normal, don't make fun of him."

Ye Minzhe looked at her. "Then why don't I smell piss on you? You're younger and smaller than him."

Song Jia tilted her head and smiled dazzlingly at him. "Maybe it's the Ye blood in me."

Ye Minzhe chuckled. He ruffled her hair before he realized what he was doing and hurriedly pulled his hand back.

"You should go and take a shower too, you stink," he said, pinching his nose.

Song Jia pursed her lips and glared at him.

"Who made me become stinky in the first place anyway?" She muttered under her breath as she went towards the closet.

Ye Minzhe threw himself on the bed and rolled to his side, watching her. Song Jia was still wearing his blazer, and underneath that, she was wearing their pleated uniform skirt and a pair of black thigh high socks. Ye Minzhe's face began to turn red, and who knows if he suddenly thought of something, because the redness quickly went away.

He jumped out of the bed and joined Song Jia in front of the closet, grabbing away the short dress that she was considering.

"Ye Jia, since you're part of the Ye family now, you can't wear commoner clothes like these. You're a lady, what you need to wear is..."

Ye Minzhe exclaimed "aha!" and threw her a pair of baggy pants. Then he found a loose sweater and gave it to her. "You need to wear these sort of stuff."

Song Jia wrinkled her forehead as she looked at the baggy pants and the sweater that was an ugly yellow color.

"These are the 'clothes' ladies wear? Ladies dress like a beggar these days?"

She raised an eyebrow at Ye Minzhe.

Ye Minzhe didn't feel an ounce of shame and confidently looked at her.

"Ye Jia, you've been abroad for too long, you don't know the customs of our country better than this young master."

"But I've seen some of our classmates, and they come from rich families too, don't they? They why don't I see them wearing clothes like these?"

"Those are from other families. How could they compare to the prestige of Ye?" Ye Minzhe hurriedly closed the closet doors. "Besides, the less skin those zombies see, the less they would attack you and eat your brains. It's a win-win situation."

Song Jia thought, So he already guessed that they were zombies?

"Ye Minzhe, if those zombies indeed ate brains, they wouldn't have attacked you."

She gave a loud snort as she looked at the clothes he handed to her. His intentions were so obvious that Song Jia could spot it a mile away. But because she was satisfied that he was being a good brother for once, she decided to play along with him.

Ye Minzhe looked at her haughty expression. He obviously disliked that face before, but why is it that his hands itched to touch her now? He pinched her cheek.

"Ye Jia, your guts are getting bigger. Aren't you my personal maidservant? How could you insult your master like this?"

Song Jia stopped. "Where's the baseball bat? I changed my mind. I have a problem with cruelty to animals, but some pests needs to be exterminated."

"Great ancestor of the Ye family, violence is never the solution." Ye Minzhe laughed, reluctantly taking back his hand. "Look, our teacher's out, it's your turn to bath."

Song Jia glared at him, and Ye Minzhe smiled at her. With a 'hmph,' Song Jia stormed into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

She wasn't aware that behind her, Ye Minzhe's smile slowly melted away. He closed his eyes and grabbed a handful of his hair, pulling at it in frustration.
