241 Vixen Above, Mensao Below (55)

The more Ye Minzhe kept sticking up for Ye Jia, the more it drove Long Aotian to do crazy things.

His limit with his long incubation time with the zombie virus was starting to expire, and he was unreconciled with the fact that he would die while Ye Jia would easily get what he had wanted for so long, undeservedly so.

Ye Jia could entangle herself with so many men, but still get Ye Minzhe, who had been honest and pure.

Long Aotian felt that such a woman didn't deserve the man he loved. He needed to save Ye Minzhe from her clutches, and show him, that the white flower he treasured was actually just weed.

In Long Aotian's mind, Ye Jia was a vixen, dirty and lewd, while Ye Minzhe was a blank piece of paper, being slowly corrupted by her.

However, it soon dawned on him that Ye Minzhe didn't want to be saved.

Long Aotian came to the Ye estate, knowing that no one would expect to find him there. With so many evacuees, they would never have the time to notice that a new, unfamiliar face had been mixing with them.

Sometimes, the most dangerous place was actually the safest place.

Long Aotian saw with his own eyes how much Ye Minzhe took care of Song Jia. Everywhere she went, his eyes would be following her, as if her presence was something that he essentially needed, like air. The more he watched the two of them, the more he became jealous.

It was a vicious cycle, and in the end, he made an irreparable mistake.

Long Aotian met with Sheng Li. He handed her his medicine bottle, telling her that it was aphrodisiac. Since Ye Minzhe didn't want to be saved, then Long Aotian would drag him down to become just like him.

An infected.

That way, as much as he wanted to be with Ye Jia, he could never be with her.

Just like himself, who could never be with him.

Long Aotian knew Sheng Li liked Ye Minzhe. She was very hostile to Ye Jia that day, so Long Aotian knew that she would agree to his plans.

And that was when everything went wrong.

Sheng Li tried to talk with Ye Minzhe several times, but after the first time he rejected her, she didn't see him again. In the end, she had gotten drunk, and left his medicine bottle on the banquet table. Some fool thought it was part of the bourbon rosemary punch since it had the same color, and thinking that it was a waste, he dumped it back into the glass bowl.

And then the birthday banquet turned into a feast for the undead.

Long Aotian stared at Ye Minzhe, who held a knife against his own throat. As blood continued to soak his shirt, he took step after step towards the stunned girl. He still held one hand out, as if offering her two options.

If she chose to stay, or if she chose to leave.

Either way, he would follow her, even if one of the choices would lead him to his death.

"Jia, let's go home?" Ye Minzhe lifted his eyes and gazed at her. His lips were curved into a soft smile.

He would never give her the opportunity to leave him.

A hundred years' effort led to crossing in the same ferryboat, a thousand years' effort led to sleeping on the same pillow [1].

From the time he had looked into her eyes at the cruise ship, up to the moment he had realized his previous fake sister had inwardly changed, it was as if a small stone had been thrown into his heart, stirring an infinite number of waves.

At last, he stood in front of her.

The entire rooftop was large, but they were so close.

Ye Minzhe could see purple veins crawling and twisting under the surface of her skin, and Song Jia was starting to lose control of her limbs. A second before she truly became a zombie, Song Jia met Ye Minzhe's eyes.

The wind blew, carrying the scent of flowers.

And then her entire body fell backwards.

"Jia, let's stay together."

Clang!

The knife dropped on the floor, as the silent atmosphere was pierced by Ding Xiuxiu's screams, and Gong Qiye's shouts. Ouyang Che sprinted towards the edge, but he was still too late.

Ye Minzhe's fingers curled tightly into Song Jia's wrist, digging deep into the skin. Then his arms were wrapped tightly around her waist, pulling her close to him.

As they fell in mid-air, teeth sank into Ye Minzhe's neck, drawing blood. Ye Minzhe merely caressed the girl's head, not feeling the pain at all.

With a sickening thud, both of their bodies hit the ground. Blood spilled on the cold concrete, spreading outwards like a blooming flower.

In the darkness of the night, covered only by light and shade, the bright red color was extremely striking.

A few moments later, the sound of a helicopter taking flight was heard. The loud sound of its blades whirring covered the sobs and cries of its passengers that were immersed in grief.

Then, several more hours passed.

Zombies were the only residents left inside the Ye estate, their shambling figures haunting the hallways and opulent rooms where wealthy heirs and heiresses had once lived. Their groans echoed and bounced off the walls, their voices filled with insatiable hunger and desire to feed on living flesh.

Finally, early in the morning, dawn came.

Weak sunlight spilled into a ruined world, a world that was strewn with wreckage. Darkness retreated, the horizon becoming a line of fire from where the sun would rise. The sky turned grey, then a deep shade of blue, and just like that, the night was over.

And on the concrete, where his blood had already dried, Ye Minzhe slowly opened his eyes.

Like a signal, within a thousand kilometer radius of where he lay, every zombie stood still.
