Chapter 1 - The Scholarship

In two days, BlackCrow Highschool for blood-born witches is opening. All kids accepted into the program have been sent an acceptance invitation via email or letter. Every kid on Broom's End street was ecstatic to receive a letter from that school because BlackCrow Highschool is the best school to learn witchcraft, only the best students are accepted or recommended to that school by their headmasters. The day the letters started coming in, kids were celebrating all day and night for getting their invitations, everyone except Laz... Ethan Laz Briar. He was recommended to this school by his headmaster due to his high grades throughout his school year. However, he still wasn't excited about going to school, especially when he got a notification from his laptop. He opened up his laptop and went to his email to find the new icon above a recent email sent to him saying "congratulations" opening the email with a virtual handwritten certificate displayed in the center of the email. The email wrote,

Closing his laptop Laz plopped down onto his bed staring up at the ceiling dreading the days to come. Toast jumped up onto the bed lying down on Laz's chest, gently petting the sleepy calico Laz sighed unsure if he should be happy or upset about his current situation.

Waking up the next day Laz was greeted with Toast gently patting his cheek with her paw, giving a warm smile Laz got up and walked to the kitchen. His kitchen wasn't large but it was big enough to cook meals in. Opening the cupboard Laz poured himself a bowl of cereal while using a bit of magic to pour some cat food in a bowl for Toast, moving the bag of cat food into the closet Laz slowly lowered his hands setting the bag down and shutting the door with a flick of his wrist. Sitting down at the table Laz lazily ate his cereal looking through his recent notifications, when the front swung open.

" Heya sport, how you doing?!" His aunt said enthusiastically striding towards Laz and giving him a big hug.

"Just eating breakfast with Toast Gab." Laz yawned patting his aunt's back signaling to let him go.

Although Laz's aunt was in her 30's his bond to her resembled a brother-sister relationship.

"Anything new come in today?" Gabrielle asked fixing herself a bowl of cereal.

" l got an acceptance letter to BlackCrow's Highschool for full-blood wizards," Laz said boringly waving his hands in the air.

" No way! You know me and your mom attended that school when we were your age." Gabrielle had the biggest grin on her face as she sat down at the table.

" I know, I know you talk about it all the time." Laz smiled

" Have you started packing yet?" she asked

" No, not yet actually, " Laz said continuing to eat his cereal.

" What! We have to start packing right now!" Gabrielle grabbed Laz's hand, swiftly pulling him out of his seat and dragging him upstairs.

"School doesn't start for another 2 weeks!"

Now in the bedroom, Gabrielle hastily looked through Laz's closet. Laz sat on his bed watching his aunt moving every single piece of clothing he had in there

"Why are you pacing my suitcase again?" Laz asked.

"Because you'll be in school next week classes don't start until that week is over." Gabrielle looked or her shoulder almost offended, " Did you even read the email?"

"No, I didn't." Laz looked down at his hands, he wasn't at all excited to go to that school so had no interest in reading the email.

Gabrielle sighed, "That's okay we still have a few days before have to go, let's get packing."

Laz nodded. Getting off the bed he pulled out a suitcase from his closet and started grabbing clothes to pack in his suitcase. About 30 minutes of packing in, Gabrielle sat on the bed and let out a sigh.

"Y'know this reminds me of when I had to help your mother get ready for school." She smiled looking out of Laz's wide window view.

"Really?"

"Yea, I came to her check on her 4 days before we had to leave. You know your mother was sitting on her bed listening to music?" She laughed, "The expression on her face when she found out we were going a week early."

Both of them shared a laugh.

"I know it's going to be really lonely without you here." Gabrielle smiled looking at Laz.

"Yeah, I bet. I'm going to miss your outburst whenever you walk through the door, but at least you still got Toast"

"Guess your right," Gabrielle turned back to face the window, " Promise you'll visit?"

"Whenever I can." Laz smiled.

Getting up off the floor, Laz walked over to his bed and sat beside his aunt. Turning to face her he gave her a hug which was returned.

The rest of the days when on like normal, Gabrielle left at night for work and returned in the morning. Laz read through the rest of his email and found where the bus was going to turn up. As the numbers of days grew smaller and smaller, soon there was only one day left till Laz has to leave.
