He sat there for a while before wrapping his arms around her. “I guess I feel sad at losing her. I was going to break up with her so we can be together, but, damn, I don’t know.”
“Is it that she’s a good person and there weren’t any bad reasons you were going to break it off? Is it that you realize with a tiny glint of light in your sixteen-year-old brain that even when good thingshappen, there’s an associated loss regardless?” She kissed his cheek. “I’ve seen people who finally leave terrible, and I mean absolutely terrible, marriages, feel a loss. It’s normal. I pronounce you human.”
He brightened and sat up. “Really? There’s nothing wrong with me? You and I aren’t a mistake?”
“Time will tell if we truly belong together for millenniums, but for now, it feels right to me. I hope it does for you because I’ve had the hots for you for a very long time.” She knelt, straddling him, andkissed.
