Chapter 7: Welcome gift

Half an hour later, she finally woke up from her short nap. She wasn't surprised to see Lu Sheng in front of her, as she already felt his presence long ago when he approached her.

The fatigue under her eyes this couple of days decreased a bit, but didn't escape the eyes of Lu Sheng who haven't seen her for almost a week because he was rigorously recuperating. His pleasant face completely changed to worried.

"What happened to you? Are you not sleeping well? Do you not like your room?" he asked continuously, not even letting her answer each of his questions properly.

Looking at his overly worried face, she pursed her lips and just kept quiet until he stopped speaking.

"Yeah that must be it! It's the room right? I knew it didn't look cozy enough, I'll tell them to change it." He said, deciding by himself, having not heard her thoughts about this.

He was just too worried about her, and it shows.

Hearing his impulsive decision of changing rooms, she decided to not keep her mouth shut anymore.

"Don't bother, it's not the room, this is normal for me."

Even after staying with them for more than a week now, although still considered short, her way of speaking slightly improved. Not like in the past where she would only answer in a word or two, unless necessary. It could be seen that she fully accepted them as her family.

Having been said that it was normal for her, it means she was already used to it.

Looking at her breath takingly flawless face, that now had a slight fatigue mixed in it, but did not lessen even a bit of her beauty, the more his brows furrowed. He wasn't a friendly person or someone who would even pity a person just because he had a miserable life, he couldn't care a bit.

That person could 'enjoy' his miserable life himself to the point of giving up and even if he had to watch that man kill himself in front of him, he would just clap his hands and walk away with it.

That's why he just stood there calmly when his sister was playing with those hitmen the other day. He was quite a ruthless person contrary to his good looks. But hearing her words "It's normal for me," just struck a string in his heart.

Just as he was going to speak, a maid came to the garden looking for them. "Young master and young miss, the breakfast is ready," with that she lead the way.

Lu Fan stood up and followed the maid, slowly walking as if waiting for him to follow.

Lu Sheng looked at her back dejectedly sighing, not knowing what to do with this sister of his. He followed behind her slightly speeding up to walk beside her on their way to the dinning hall where the two men awaited.

Lu Pei just came back home from his week long business trip, and now on the table freely talking to his father about the trip.

When the both of them entered the dinning hall, they saw Lu Pei and Lu Gao talking about the contract that Lu Pei signed in country M. Noticing that the kid's presences both men at the table stopped talking and directed their attention to both kids.

Lu Pei looked at Lu Fan with a bright smile on his face, inviting her to sit beside him on the table.

Lu Sheng just stared at them silently and sat on the other side.

Having his new daughter sit beside him made him happy for some reason. He looked at her face, the most stunning and mesmerizing face that he has seen in his 40 plus years of life. But looking at her still beautiful face something seems off.

She has a faint dark spot below her eyes, making her look so fatigue.

Worry quickly enveloped his face, just a second faster than Lu Gao. Both men panicked. "Xiao Fan, are you sleeping well?" Lu Gao asked with a frown on his face.

"Is there anything wrong? Do you dislike anything? What is it? I will change everything immediately." Lu Pei quickly butted in.

Lu Fan just looked at the both of them and then turned her head to Lu Sheng. Her face as if saying "You really are blood related, huh" Lu Sheng just looked down at his plate, wanting nothing to do with the duo.

"No, nothing is wrong. This is just normal for me and I am already used to it." Lu Fan looked at them seriously in the eyes. Because she definitely think that if she wouldn't show them how serious she was, they would just complicate things.

Noticing that she didn't want them to meddle with her business, they both just shut their mouths up, but worry still etched on their faces.

Even thought they really are worried, they could do nothing if the person concerned didn't want them to do something, specially when its their valued new family member.

But if things get worse, they would definitely spare no time and help her with anything she needs.

After they finished eating breakfast, no one said anything since then.

Noticing the awkwardness getting stronger as none of them said anything more, Lu Pei changed the subject to ease the awkward situation.

"Xiao Fan, I just remembered that I haven't given you anything yet after welcoming you to the family. So I bought a little gift for you from my trip." Lu Pei smiled dashingly at her.

A servant entered the room with bags on her hands. She carefully passed everything Lu Pei as she quickly left the room.

From one bag Lu Pei took out a delicate red box. The box was imbedded with gold and powdered diamonds surrounded the whole box.

Just the box it self indicated how expensive whatever was inside.

Lu Pei opened the box gently and showed the content to Lu Fan. Inside the box was a beautiful golden necklace. It looked very simple at first glance but when the light passed it there was something reflecting the light. In the golden chains there were countless small diamonds in it.

It was lowkey but still showed your boundless wealth.

Lu Fan looked at the necklace apathetically. But behind that emotion face of her several things came running inside her head.

She looked at the necklace intently, she can't get rid of the feeling that it was so familiar.

Then realization dawned upon her.

'Isn't this that necklace...' A frown slightly appeared on her face.

Looking at her frowning, Lu Pei thought that she didn't like it because it didn't look expensive enough and wouldn't be fitting in her beyond beautiful image.

"Do you not like it Xiao Fan, I could get you something else it you want." He smiled at her. Even though it took him great means just to have this necklace, he's rich anyway so it wouldn't do much damage.

He saw this necklace at the auction, and this one was the last item which meant that they put special attention to this necklace. It was the best, and what he wants for his daughter is the best that's why he bought it. It was more than just a couple of tens of million and one needed a lot of connections just to have it, but he didn't think twice of buying it for her.

But now it seems that it all has gone to waste.

"No..." She quickly said but didn't continue for a bit. If her memory serves her right, this was the necklace she had collected from one of her missions in the past.

Of course there were killings involved. And she had to personally cut that royalty's neck just to get that necklace and give it to that man.

So she naturally know how much it is worth.

What she's confused about was why did they put this necklace up for auction, it's not like they're lacking in money or anything.

Did someone stole it or did they gave it to someone for keepsake?

But all she knows is that it is such a troublesome work just to get ones hand on this necklace...

She looked at Lu Pei and continued her words, "... I like it."

She slightly smiled to show her sincerity. It is quite bothersome to wear the necklace of someone you killed but she couldn't just waste his effort.

Lu Pei was quite taken aback at her smile, but he quickly smiled back at her.

Lu Gao looked at them also smiling, "Oh, I just remembered school will start next week already, and I already called the school to let them know your transfer."

"Hm, thank you grandfather." She said, still with the smile from earlier.
