Beyond Your Eyes

There is an old classic saying, in which our eyes are the window to our soul. Our deepest fears and desires hide within them. For Celeste D’Angelo, she is someone others would consider to be very blessed. As the only child to a vastly wealthy family whose power and influence knows no bounds, nothing stands in her way. With her serene personality she adored by her friends and is even considered among her peers as a glamorous classic doll. But despite that, internally Celeste has her own struggles, desires, and fears that if someone paid just a little more attention - they might mock and be cruel to her. On the surface nothing fazes or bothers her, but as one gets deeper and deeper into her skin a different story is told. Dean Cortez is a man who is a human hurricane. Also hailing from a wealthy family, Dean takes life by the reins and drives off leaving a disaster in his wake. Crass and wild, much like a wild mustang, he is a force that can’t be stopped. For Dean he indulges in doing whatever, whoever, and whenever. Embodying everything people expect from a rich kid especially one of equal status to the Cortez Family. But everyone has secrets, and though everyone gets close to him, no one sees the secrets he hides beyond his eyes and deep in his heart. Through some circumstances the pair end up together, and while they are vastly different from one another, their defining traits perfectly balance them out like Yin and Yang. Follow along to see how they navigate their mid-twenties, familial and societal pressures, the secrets they carry, and their growing affection for one another. authors note: This is my first kind of slice of life novel! Chapter 114 - Oddly Interested

I just scoffed but did not give her a response.

She continued to flip the cards now showing my present. "You are much happier now and have better stability. You also are currently in a relationship." At that I gave my mom a pointed look. I told her I was talking to someone but she still wanted to matchmake. She held up her hands in defense and waved them to shoo me back into paying attention.

"She is someone you love very dearly and who completes you. To be honest if I were to guess she seems to be your twin flame, your life partner. Your attributes balance her out as she does for you. She is characterized by flames here."

Even though I don't know much about tarot and readings I thought each one had a name like the emperor card or something. But she did not bother with that at all just reading the scenario she sees but I don't get how she could even say that.

She flipped the next cards for my future. "I see many obstacles in your future. At least in your romantic relationships. Your finances and work life seem to be thriving very well but yes your relationship will be strained."

At this point I got annoyed. What does she know anyways. I already knew going in that my relationship with Celeste would be difficult due to our backgrounds but not impossible. I just needed to come up with a way to get a judge to approve. As for my family, I had an idea but I wanted to run it by Celeste first.

"I would be careful, if you make a wrong move you both will suffer a blow. Unlike my other clients you are different. Your family will do their best to protect you but they owe her nothing." She suddenly swiped the cards off the table.

My mom jumped in surprise as the cards fell in her direction. It was like a switch of a light, she went from calm to angered and hyper manic. She was moving erratically as she pulled out a bowl and set the inside on fire. I did not see what kindling she used but the flames were a blue color.

She then grabbed some bones and tossed them in and within that second the flames switched to a bright red flame before subsiding to an orange color. Once it was orange she grabbed one of the bones out of the flames and extinguished the rest.

The rest of the bones in the bowl were covered in an ash but the one she pulled out was still white but cracked. She blew into the bone and smaller fragments came out. She then tossed the fragments and the fell in a random pattern on the table.

"The cards refused to show me more of your future. I have no way of seeing if you get married or what happens to the star crossed lover. I just see the obstacles but nothing further. I would not fret however, it does not mean you don't but rather they did not wish to speak any further."

I could tell the look on my face must have been just pure confusion. "The bones tell me that it is not that you will be alone, but they too won't show me more. The best way I can explain it is that every decision you make pushes a set of dominos into action. The future I can see is what was already set in motion. Meaning that certain aspects are undecided. It is up to you to make the choice which will lead the desired path."

She nodded happily to herself and pulled out a paper fan to cool herself down. In all the commotion I did not notice that she was sweating and seemed exhausted. As though doing this was taxing.

"Don't you have a list of eligible girls? I thought you were a matchmaker?" Truthfully I did not get what happened or what the point of her being here was for. She supposedly had a master list but yet she asked me nothing about my likes or dislikes or what I want in a future partner.

She just did some type of read on me and that any decision I make now will impact my marriage. "The woman you are talking to is a destined person, I could not make any types of changes to that. I would be trifling with fate."

I just rolled my eyes. 'Right, sure it is.' I think my mom thought the same way as she intervevned in her usual manner. "Won't hurt to see who you recommend right? The reading was shorter and I would like to get my moneys worth."

Her threat was veiled but I could sense it. She at least wanted to see what the woman thought but so far she is living up to my expectations of some type of quack. Not even my abuelita would buy into this.

"I will show you but please bear in mind that while I recommend her based on what I have gathered, I doubt you will need to talk to her." She went to her corner of belongings and lifted the large box which I assumed had all the files.

She shuffled through and picked some folders and then placed them back after hugging them to her chest and closing her eyes. She finally settled on one which based on the other folders seemed brand new. Every file she pulled looked well used as though she pulls them often.

She opened it and read the papers a bit before handing it to me. "Based on my intuition as well as general matchmaking skills this woman would be ideal for you. Celeste D'Angelo. She is from a pretty good family and her birthday aligns as a good partner for you."

Before I could even respond my mom beat me to the punch. "Are you sure?" I was half expecting her to flat out say no but she seemed oddly interested. The photo the woman had was when Celeste was in college, both my mom and I looked at it fondly.

"If not the other woman he is currently seeing, she could also bee a good fit. I don't have much information on her to be honest but the few I do have seem compatible." She shrugged nonchalantly as though she did not actually pull my princess.
