Beyond Your Eyes

There is an old classic saying, in which our eyes are the window to our soul. Our deepest fears and desires hide within them. For Celeste D’Angelo, she is someone others would consider to be very blessed. As the only child to a vastly wealthy family whose power and influence knows no bounds, nothing stands in her way. With her serene personality she adored by her friends and is even considered among her peers as a glamorous classic doll. But despite that, internally Celeste has her own struggles, desires, and fears that if someone paid just a little more attention - they might mock and be cruel to her. On the surface nothing fazes or bothers her, but as one gets deeper and deeper into her skin a different story is told. Dean Cortez is a man who is a human hurricane. Also hailing from a wealthy family, Dean takes life by the reins and drives off leaving a disaster in his wake. Crass and wild, much like a wild mustang, he is a force that can’t be stopped. For Dean he indulges in doing whatever, whoever, and whenever. Embodying everything people expect from a rich kid especially one of equal status to the Cortez Family. But everyone has secrets, and though everyone gets close to him, no one sees the secrets he hides beyond his eyes and deep in his heart. Through some circumstances the pair end up together, and while they are vastly different from one another, their defining traits perfectly balance them out like Yin and Yang. Follow along to see how they navigate their mid-twenties, familial and societal pressures, the secrets they carry, and their growing affection for one another. authors note: This is my first kind of slice of life novel! Chapter 107 - Did He Know

I heard the doors open again and from my limited vision I could see my mom rush in with the doctors and a team of nurses.

"Celeste my name is Dr. Jordan King I have been treating you for your allergic reaction since you arrived. I will have the nurses approach to get some vitals ok." It was a woman's voice. Her voice sounded kind and she was soft spoken. I tried my best to turn and face her but was stiff from not moving all night. I managed a thumbs up since I was too scared to speak yet. I felt the raw aching feeling in my throat and unless I had some water I would just end up coughing and hurting myself.

The other medical professionals came in and got my vitals among other things. Once they collected what they needed they moved away and the doctor approached after. "I want to undress the bandages on your throat to see how the wound is faring as well as just get some clean ones on it. I know you can't really see right now given the severity of your inflammation so I want to ensure you know what is happening." When I felt her hands on my throat I winced a bit. She slowly unwrapped the bandages and adjusted my head a bit to get a better view on the damage.

Though my nails were not long as I was prone to breaking them very easily I knew I probably left deep scratches anyways. I even recalled the scratches I left on Deans back from that night so I knew it was probably rough.

"Thankfully you did not go very deep, the wounds themselves are superficial so it should heal up nicely in about a week. Your only job for these here is to keep it clean and it will leave no scarring." I felt a cold gel get smeared on my neck before being wrapped up again to keep the wound from getting infected.

"Your hives have cleared up since a few hours ago so right now the only lasting symptom is the inflammation and bruising. I want to keep you for a week under observation just until the majority of it has calmed down. So far your blood oxygen levels look good and your color is returning nicely so I don't anticipate any complications but ideally keeping you here with lost of rest and little disturbance is best."

She squeezed my hand lightly before putting something in my palm. "Here is some water. I am sure you are very thirsty. As for food right now there is still some swelling so I don't want you to choke or get food stuck so for now we will just stick to water and some IV nutrition. If the swelling is much better by dinnertime we should be ok to let you eat."

I was initially surprised by my lack of hunger but I guess that explained it. I motioned for my mom to grab my phone and I typed out a message to ask the doctor. I ignored the various texts and phone calls I received.

'Will it be ok for me to shower right now?' I let the doctor read my message while I crossed my fingers that she would let me. When I tumbled to the ground the drinks fell all over me so I smelled like a mix of fruit and alcohol.

"I see, it should be fine but let me have one of the nurses help you up and wrap the bandages so it will not get wet. We will need to reinsert the IV line once you are finished." I felt the presence next to me leave as she gave some orders for my mom. "No visitors besides your husband and yourself for today as she needs plenty of rest. After she gets out of the shower I want her back in bed as she cannot get up alone until at least tomorrow. With the way her swelling is and how low her blood pressure was earlier I want to let her recover her strength and vision so she won't hurt herself."

One of the nurses helped remove the IV temporarily and I finally got a shower. Once I got out my mom helped me dry my hair while the nurses to input the IV line and adjusted the bed so I could be upright for the time being.

I also finally got some water which felt amazing against my rough scratchy throat. Drinking was not as painful as I anticipated. "Mom where is Dad?" I whispered softly still not wanting to strain anything.

"He was here but I had him go home to shower and sleep. He has been awake all night but he just texted me that he woke up and is on his way here. As for Nana June and Grandpa Beau they are at home. I let them know what is going on and they are adjusting their flights to stay longer."

It was inevitable. I knew they would worry when neither my dad nor myself came home. I was just glad that they did not have to see me right now. Based on my last reaction, today would be the worst in terms of looks but by tomorrow the swelling will be much better. It is just the scratches that will take longer. "Actually speaking of flights your other grandparents also got the gist of what is going on so they are flying in tomorrow night."

Before I could react my mom interrupted my thoughts. "I know you like to not tell them things since you don't like people to worry but your dad was so angry he had to call them to have them cut contact with Dantes family. Honestly it has been years since I have seen your father that upset. To him he did not want anything more to do with them."

Honestly I understood. I too was in utter disbelief of what had happened. I could not believe he just left me. It would have been one thing if he just did not understand what was going on and fumbled to help me but based on what he said, he recognized that woman and ran after her.

As irritated as I was I also felt a twisted sense of relief that he gave me more ammo to use to have him leave. He had no way of defending his actions now. Dean would have never left me like that, so what excuse could he even come up with.

Speaking of which, did he know I was here?
