Chapter 5

Cassandra’s POV

I simply couldn’t wrap my head on all of this information, I wanted to bolt out the door and confront my family, but I knew I was vulnerable, and I could not fully control the wolf within me.

Beep beep beep beep

‘’Hello?’’

‘’Cassandra Cromwell! Where are you?!’’ my mom screamed over the phone. ‘’ How dare you skip classes and not even tell us! The principal called me and notified that you left school.’’

‘’ Mom, I’m sorry….I didn’t feel to good and I needed some fresh air, I just took a walk into the woods.’’

‘’FOR SIX HOURS?!’’

‘’Yeah??’’ shit, it has been six hours already.

‘’ Did you drink your tea today?’’ she asked. Why was she wondering about it all of a sudden.

‘’Yes.’’

‘’Get your bag and come home this instant. You spent enough time with those friends of yours.’’ How did she know?? I never told her anything about my friends or who I was with. I grabbed my stuff and tried getting out the door.

‘’ Where do you think you are going?’’ questioned Jasper.

‘’If I don’t come home right now, she will be pissed and question me even more. I already sense she is lying about something.’’

‘’ What if you can’t control your anger? We all know you want to face them.’’

‘’ Fine, come along, sit by the house and if you sense something you can come to the rescue.’’ I rolled my eyes.

As I got close to my house my sensitive hearing activated itself and I could hear my parents talking.

‘’She knows Valerie, and if she still doesn’t you need to tell her! You can’t keep feeding her that brew and pretend it never happened. What is done is done and sooner or later that prophecy will happen! ’my dad screamed.

‘’You can not make me do it! She is still a child we can still run away for a couple more years!’’ my mom pleaded.

‘’And her training? She is the be alpha in her pack or even rule with another, her own mate she will be Luna for god’s sake. If you don’t tell her tonight I will.’’

‘’ I already know.’’ I completed while I got through the door. ‘’Now you better tell me the truth, and I mean the entire truth or I am walking out right now.’’

‘’How dare you? And what are you talking about? ’my mom tried playing dumb.

‘’ You know mother, wolves have better hearing, better speed, better sight, I don’t know about patience but I am telling you mine is already running low, so choose your next words.’’

‘’ I told you she will shift at some point.’’ Dad explained. ‘’ Look at her chest she has her mate already! She found her mate and you are trying to tell it’s not the time?!’’as I looked down to my chest closer to my shoulder and collarbone I could see a mark, it looked like a birth mark in the shape of our families rune and someone else’s, I guess the Elordi familie’s rune.

‘’ Since you want to play this smart you go figure it out on your own, I am not helping you into this disaster!’’ my mom denied.

‘’ Fine!’’ I walked passed her and started packing my stuff. I will go away for a while until I can figure out what the hell is going on. As I was filling a duffle bag my dad knocked on my door.

‘’ You know, you never asked me.’’ Dad smiled. ‘’ I can’t tell you everything, but from what I read in your mind everything you heard so far is true. In order for the prophecy to unveil properly and turn out good, you need to find your path on your own, otherwise I don’t know what will go wrong.’’ He placed in my bag an old book and an envelope filled with cash and a credit card.’’ You have there more than enough, read that book and pay attention to what it says and for god’s sake please still go to school, you also have a normal life to keep up with. Also, I can sense you mate’s scent please tell him if he wants to take you on this adventure to at least ask for my permission.’’ He smiled. Seconds later we heard a thud on my balcony, there he was William with his back turned towards the window.

‘’ Hello mister Cromwell, I am William Elordi.’’ He took out this hand from his pocket waiting to shake it with my dad.

‘’ I know who you are, I also happen to know your parents. Please take care of her, she is all we got. If you need anything contact me I will do my best to help.’’

I finished packing and hugged my dad, I waned so badly to say goodbye to my mom, but when she got upstairs to the door she just had a disappointed look on her face and gestured her hand for me to jut go away already. With a broken heart I grabbed my bag and went out the door. I have never seem her so cold, she usually acts like this when she is either scared for something or angry.

I got back to the boys house and placed the luggage on the floor. Will smiled at me and picked it up again guiding me to a room in the house.

‘’ This is our guest room, feel free to make it your own. Since you are the only girl in the house we tried thinking of ways to make you feel comfortable. You also have your own bathroom so no need to worry about that and to your left there is a small balcony. I’ll go tomorrow to the store to pick up a chair so you can lounge outside if you need some fresh air.’’ He smiled at me. I got closer to him and gave him a kiss on the check.

‘’ Thank you so much for the help, you know it’s not meant to be your burden as well.’’

‘’ Well , you just became my mate so from now on your problems are my problems as well.’’he chuckled.

I remembered that we still have one more day to attend high school until the beginning of the weekend so I can finally focus on the book my dad gave me. I knew if I skipped tomorrow again they will call my dad and honestly it’s the only thing he made me promise.

Beep beep beep beep

‘’ Hi Cass is me Irene, I was wondering if you want to chat for a while grab a cup of coffee or something?’’

‘’Hi, yeah sure.. let me get dressed and I’ll meet you at Starbucks in 20.’’ I smiled and hung up the phone. It was good to know that at least I had a normal girl friend. I got up from the bed and pulled a new pair of dark blue jeans that were high rise and this sweater that I absolutely loved it was this cream color but so damn fluffy. I pulled my hair in this top bun and pulled some front pieces out. As I grabbed my small backpack a figure was standing at the door.

‘’ Come on the boys are already waiting.’’

‘’ Will, you know I can go for a cup of coffee on my own, also stop listening to the phone calls.’’

‘’We want to go to this old pub where there are some powerful wolves, they maybe can help us out a little, it’s one street away from the Starbucks you are going .’’

‘’ Fine.’’ And with that I got in the car.

When we got to the shop Irene was already there, she was smiling at Jasper and he did the same. We got inside and chatted for a while. It was nice to break free from all this craziness that happened today. Every so often I linked my mind to William’s so he knew we were alright. At some point a woman got inside the shop, she had this dark lavender long hair and a long leather jacket on her, some black boots covered in mood and she looked intensely at me for a second and shifted her gaze to Irene.

‘’ You better run Cassandra Cromwell, she will do you no good.’’ I heard the black wolf linking to me.

I got up and begged Irene to come with me, I had to protect her from whoever this person wanted from me… or maybe her. It was raining so badly outside but it didn’t matter , I pulled Irene by her hand and we started speeding on our own feet as quick as possible , hearing the woman crying out for Irene. It made me shiver hearing that voice, that horrible witchy voice she had. Nonetheless we eventually got into the woods. Trying to fid a safe space to hide we could hear her leather jacket touching the ground she made her way to us. The woman started chanting something and her hands started burning up with blue fire. But seconds later Irene pulled from her bag a small pouch of little pebbles and threw them on the floor.

‘’ Stay back Cass, this can also harm wolves.’’ Irene stated as she said a few mystical words I did not understand.

‘’ Oh sweet girls you think you can get away so easily? I am going to have both of you. The dark wolf will pay great money for the royal girl and as for you enchantress Irene, there is someone who wants you on their side, so for your own good give up now.’’ The crazy woman grinned. ‘’ I am who you call Faune and I bring death to all that stand against me, I wam what you call a bounty hunter and I will get my money that was placed on your heads. Many wolves want you Cass and for you Irene, such an interesting enchantress. War is coming and you kind needs your powers.’’I growled as she tried getting closer, getting ready to shift.

‘’ Don’t shift Cass, this circle I created will harm your wolf if it senses it, keep it under control.’’whispered Irene.

‘’Irene, I can’t ….’’ I gasped for air ‘’ I don’t know how to yet.’’

All of a sudden I heard the boys howling and coming to our aid. Faune looked stunned and ran deeper into the woods. ‘’ This is not over girl, see you soon.’’ She grinned.

‘’ Irene, get away from me now!’’ I yelled starting to shift. She stepped back breaking the circle. I shifted in front of her and started taking steps back, but William came close to me and places his nose next to mine.

‘’ Calm down Cass, I’m here breath. We need you to calm down. The boys will take care of Irene we will meet them back at the house. Let’s just take a walk okay?’’he said.

I nodded and we started going into the house’s direction.

‘’ She is an enchantress. How did we not see it? My own friend is a witch.’’

‘’Me and the boys could sense it, but if she keeps her powers under control it is quite hard to recognize her in a crowd full of people.’’ Will explained.

‘’ She knew I was a wolf. How?’’

‘’She either prepared a potion or simply just guessed. They also have their own traits just like us.’’

‘’Nonetheless she is part of our pack now, right? She needs to be protected.’’ I pleaded.

‘’ You think Jasper would let us? He has a thing for her if you did not notice, and I know she has one for him too.’’ He chuckled.

Once we got in the house we could see they were already talking about the eventful night.

‘’Irene do you know who Faune was?’’

‘’Listen, I heard about her, she is dangerous but believe me I will find her soft spots. She will be quite tricky in our path.’’ Irene sighed.

‘’Soo, you are a witch.’’ I grinned.

‘’ And you are a wolf.’’ She laughed.’’ I guess we are odd enough to be best friends for life.’’
