Could things ever get better?

"Hey Kathy, are you listening to me?....it seems you just spaced out while in class"

Sitting rather absentmindedly in the second row was this brown skinned girl....."Kathyyyyy what's so important that could occupy your head this early morning, guess you'd just have to leave my class" the teacher blurted out visibly annoyed at the young girl's lack of interest in class. The girl just looked up,distracted from her train of thoughts and seemed to pay attention....at least if that would suffice the" havoc wrecker" in front of her.

Mathematics was one of the subjects Kathy hated most in school, she just didn't like the subject and to sum it all up,Mrs Johnson their maths teacher was strict to the core which made Kathy dislike her so much.

Monday mornings didn't usually go well with Kathy because she had to listen to Mrs Johnson talk nonstop without even getting a hint of what she was saying ....maybe because she really didn't like the subject though.

After some hours, the maths teacher walked out of class. "See you guys in our next class,Daniella make sure you submit the assignment tommorow on my desk" the maths teacher said pointing at Daniella while passing through the door. Daniella was the class prefect although she was not strikingly beautiful or exceptionally brilliant, she still had good grades and a calm behavior that made most of the teachers and students like her.

Kathy placed her head on the table trying to have a little private time with herself.....memories from last night came flooding back, tears trickled down her cheeks."Kathy you need to be strong,I don't want you to make the same mistake I made ...I thought he loved me,I endured everything with him thinking he'll change..."Her mom's sobs echoed in her head, she stooped under desk and wept bitterly, she really hated to see her mom cry because it seemed like a dagger was pierced deeply into her heart.

Yesterday night she had just come back home from church to hear her parents shouting and arguing. The reason to their arguments was still the same reason Kathy and everyone else knew.....her dad was cheating on her mum again. Her mum was sobbing bitterly and Kathy couldn't help but tried to get her up to her room when suddenly her dad charged towards her and before she could react .....her dad's wide palm had landed on her cheek.

Her dad had slapped her...she couldn't still believe it,she stood there awed and before could process what had just happened, her dad descended on her mum beating her to pulp.

Kathy stood there in terror, scared to her very guts....she screamed for help until some of their neighbours rushed in and stopped her dad.

Her mum was rushed to the hospital and her dad was detained by the police. Some minutes later all the neighbours dispersed to their various homes, everywhere became so quiet as if nothing ever happened. So frustrated and lonely she had gone to the dinning table to sit....she just wished her mum would be okay.

She felt like the whole world was crumbling at her feet, her family was always in choas every now and then, she had never for once experienced fatherly or motherly love. Now in her teenage years where she needed parental support the most, she didn't get any, always tackling and dealing with her own problems alone. Her own father had always told her she was useless.....immersed in her own thoughts and worries she didn't notice when she drank half of the liquor on the dining table. Stumbling as she moved she had gone outside to get some fresh air when suddenly she heard footsteps behind her,she turned swiftly and due to the effect of the alcohol she had drank she tripped and fell.

Struggling to stand up she felt a pair of coarse and delicate hands lifting her up. Right in front of her stood a slim and slender figure hidden in the darkness.
