CHAPTER TWO: Shocking betrayal

Esmeralda's POV

"What.. what's going on here?" I asked,my voice cracking as I stared from Antonio who was already shirtless to Elena who was already half naked.

Antonio's eyes widened in shock as he pushed Elena away. "Esme, what are you doing here?" He berated.

"It's my house. Why can't I be here?" I asked, stupified by his question. He frowned and shifted his gaze to Elena, saying,"I thought you said the drug wasn't going to wear off until evening?"

"Huh... What drugs? What the hell is going on your Antonio? What are you doing with Elena?" I questioned, yelling. I was going all out to control the tears brimming up in my eyes.

'No! Not yet' I screamed inwardly, trying to convince myself that maybe, just maybe they had an explanation for their actions.

I saw a mocking smirk appear on Elena's face.

She fiddled with my husband's hair and stood up from his thighs.

"Don't worry, Antonio. I'll handle her" She smiled eeriely and sashayed to me with confidence.

"What do you think it is,Esme?" She asked, placing my hands on my shoulders. "Isn't it obvious?"

"I.. I don't understand" I shook my head, still finding it out to believe what my mind was screaming out to me.

"Let me make you understand" Elena retorted. "You've enjoyed enough of the good life already. Now, it's my turn. Your darling husband here,no longer has interest in you."

I bit my lips to stifle my cry, swatting her hands off my shoulders. "What are you saying? He married me,not you." I argued.

Suddenly,I felt a hard grip on my hair.

"Elena, what are you doing?" I asked in bewilderment.

"Are you deaf? Yes,he married you,but your tenure is over. He's mine now" She snarled, spitting on my face.

"No.. no. You're lying" I shook my head vehemently.

"Is that so?" She asked, her voice laced with sarcasm as she tightened I grip on my hair. I tried not to cry out in pain. "Alright then, why don't you ask my man?"

"He's not your man!" I yelled at her, shifted my gaze to Antonio and expecting him to deny her claims, but his gaze seemed indifferent.

"Antonio, she seduced you, didn't she?" I asked as loud as I can.

Antonio grunted and folded his arms in reply," She didn't, Esme. You shouldn't stick so hard to an illusion. What you saw is what it is."

"Ahhhh" I let out a shrill cry,and dropped to the ground on my knees. The realization was starting to hit me hard in the face. I held my chest, wishing I could sqeeeze it to end the excruciating pain I felt.

The two people I trusted most had stabbed my in the back. I couldn't even see any sign of remorse on their faces.

Elena squatted before me and grabbed my chin to look at her. "I envied you a lot,Esme" She said. "You were so lucky to be born as the heiress of a large business Industry, and you get to marry a charming man. I,on the other hand, had to lick your boots every time."

Stunned by the accusation,I retorted. "That's not true. I treated you like a sister."

"But I didn't ask you to treat me like one. I only wanted you to show me the way" She fired back with bated breath. Her eyes was burning with rage, which shocked me. Why was she angry when I was the one betrayed by the people I loved?

"That's enough,Elena. It's time for her to leave" Antonio spoke from his spot with a flat tone in his voice.

I hurried got up on my feet and stood firmly. "I'm not going anywhere, it's my house. If anyone has to leave, it's the both of you."

"The house is no longer yours,it's Antonio's now" Elena declared with a prideful gaze.

"What do you mean?" I asked. The house was bought with my name on the documents. I owned almost everything on it.

"Wait a second" Elena raised a finger and walked to the desk. She picked up a file and strutted back to me.

"Here, read through it" She ordered, throwing the file at me.

My refusal to catch it,got it lying on the floor. I glanced at it and noticed a familiar signature written on it. I mean signing documents was what I had been doing my whole life,so why was this one different.

I heard Elena snort. "You won't know what's in it until you read."

I reluctantly bent forward and picked the file. I opened it and brought out the papers. My jaw dropped and my heart skipped a beat as I read out the heading.

TRANSFER OF WILL OF ESMERALDA LAWSON TO ANTONIO REYES

I read it all over and over again. It was ridiculous, because I couldn't remember signing such papers.

I glanced at Antonio and cried out. "This is a prank, right?"

"No, it's not. You signed all your properties to me" He replied, his lips curved up in a smile.

"Oh! You can't remember?" Elena questioned with an amused expression on her face. "Let me joggle your memories. The new cocktail you saw on the counter last night was drugged by me. I paid the bartender to do so. The drug was meant to control you into signing those papers and it worked."

"Why?" I asked, letting all the tears I was holding fall off my eyes without restrain. "Why did you have to wait for long before doing this?"

Emily sighed deeply with her hands on her waist. "It wasn't easy gathering every properties your family own. It took years to get them on paper, and we also had to gain your trust. But it was easy,I mean you fell hard for it." She replied, her words dripping with disdain.

I felt I was struck by lightning. All the properties my parents left for me were all stated in the paper. It was gone and I was left with nothing.

I rushed to Antonio's side and grabbed his shirt. "Please, don't do this. You said you loved me. You can't do this." I yelled, crying profusely.

He pushed me to the ground and said. "I only married you to gain your trust. I never loved you."

His heartbreaking declaration shattered my heart into pieces, but he wasn't done yet.

"If you check the other section of the will, there's also a divorce paper with your signature on it. That makes us strangers from today henceforth."
