Chapter 4

They were now standing at the gate of the King court. The village that surrounded the kingdom of Bewix. The buildings made from bricks and stones, were still as fresh as the last time he left them. The small alley was filled with merchants selling their magical discover.  The bulky scene gave Amy the feeling to be standing in of the alley of Port Louis, the small capital city of Mauritius.  "We have to go through this?" She asked.

"This is the market place, you might buy the greatest discover of magical artifacts here." Simon explained. The merchants were quite busy getting the attention of their customers. The chatter was like a rumble on her mind. "Better hold my hand, my love." He said. They walked toward the busy scene.

"Beautiful necklace from the pyramids of gizza….." A short merchant showed her a basket full of golden jewelry. And it seemed quite filled with spell. Lots of merchants were making great sales. Merchants with unique stuff from all over the world.  Amy spotted one with a floating board saying Magical stones from Nile. And other one proudly attracting customers by his great adventure into the Himalayas.

"No thank you." Amy was never fan of gold as it is. She always fancied simple jewelry and light. Not heavy. She grabbed his arms with more pressures as she spotted one interesting merchant making handicraft jewelry. Shinny stones and interesting design. She pulled his hand, dragging him with her to have a closer look at it. The merchants eyes still lowered he was concentrated in another master piece he was making. His lips were chanting, she could say.  He ran his fingers on the fine black stones, that were turning on themselves in the middle of the air. It does seems like a normal magic, for she did saw Simon used magic to make things float in the middle of the air, but this magic seemed more tempting to her. An unusual excitement loomed into her, when she set eyes on that man. "This is really beautiful." She said.

"It's a stone from the Shiver River." Simon explained. "And it is the magic of Edam." He added with a sad tone.

"Well, if that what its call." Amy stammered. "But you might as well tell me what it is exactly."

"Edam is the charm of love. It's kind of refers to Adam and Eve. For they were the one who discovered love at first." He felt forlorn all of a sudden, and that emptiness was back again. Why the hell it tortured him that way? It's been five years it should have eased up a little bit. "Edam has many charms bided to it. And this handicraft is one of them."

That would explain why that merchant was so concentrated. "So what does it do exactly?" She asked still looking mesmerized at the fine stones, but too bad she couldn't buy some. If it was a magic spell maybe it might not be the best choice to have.

"It is said that if someone gifts one of the charm to the one she loved, their love would last forever." Simon simply added. Of course it was just one way of putting it. "And these books over there pertain some simple charms and potion making. But we have a much more grandiose library at the castle; I'll show you once we get there. Love was one factor that contributed when the first magician created this world."

"Can you tell me more?"

"Sure, but if I start telling you the story how edam spell was created….it will be like telling the story how the world began."  And all these fascinating legends hidden behind it, it will require the perfect atmosphere to start with. He was more worried about how she would react if she knew what he had been hiding from her.

"Wow, all these years I dived into the sea I never anticipated that this world is just next to our world." Amy added with another impressed glance. She did like the mysteries hidden in the sea…she always did pondered if all those tales she heard was it true or just myths? Guess she was two steps away to get her answers.

"Yes quite fascinating is it?" Simon casted another glance and carefully held on to her hand. "It is exactly the positive magic of our land that keeps the coral reefs healthy and beautiful."

They walked towards the end of the alley finally out from the market. The streets were made of old bricks as well. They were now standing at the entrance of the castle it seemed. Simon gestured his hands and waited as the wall cracked opened into half. They walked inside the abyss of mist. They stood still and waited for it to fade away. "What is all these Simon?" She asked.

"Protection spells. I wonder why they have dragged it so much." He sighed and raised another eye brow. Vast greenery surrounded the small island. The castle stood on a slope, old and waiting for freewill savior.  The banisters bridge that led them to it was decorated with veins and colorful flowers. The leaves on the trees green and big with a hint of snowflakes on them. The sun shining brightly with crimson shades in the clouds ornamenting the rainbow in the background. This of course made Amy realized, Simon's passion for animated movies. He never got over his home sick. This world had everything to be praised for. The stream that flown around the island was crystal blue and clear see through. Simon could spot a few colorful fishes and shiny rocks inside.  The castle seemed to be growing in length and width as they walked closer. Their first step on the broken and old staircase echoes as they entered the castle. The glassy colorful mosaic ceiling caught the eyes of Amy and reminded her of the oldest chapel in Strasburg, France. As the sun lights breaking through it, it reflected on the black and white chess board tiles. The staircase that was in front of them almost into the middle of the room was huge one, with double banisters, partly broken and scratched. A red carpet with embroider sliver veins designs flown down the steps of the stairs. The room however was not a busy one. Just a few closed doors and some statues of angels with broken wings and mermaids that reflected both royalty and traditions. Simon remembered the last time he ran through these walls, it seemed like ages ago. He missed it all.
