Laying my hand on the hundredth person, I couldn't help but be remorseful. As time had gone on, I had become so good at my masking my feelings and killing better than my brother. Father was proud, mother feared me and I...I couldn't recognize myself. This is what they all wanted though, a queen that needed no king.
"You look like hell." Robert said as he kicked at the stone close to the bodies.
"What do you expect, your troops came later than expected. So I had to lead the battle before we lost the element of surprise." I said as I moved to the next body.
"Old habits die hard huh? You still pray for these dead bodies as if you're remorseful. You're not supposed to care."
"Don't start with me Rob. Most of their fighters were kids. Kids!"
"Well, then I apologize." He said sarcastically.
"What if it was your heir. Your son ran out and tried protecting you. what then Rob? Would you still say 'I apologize'?" I asked as I neared.
"No." he answered with a certain look I hadn't seen in years. Compassion.
"It's okay to show mercy sometimes, mercy will save you one day." I said brushing my lips on his forehead.
"When I see it, I'll believe it." He said walking past me.
The helpers fussed back and forth as I and Rob entered the mansion. Once they noticed our presence, they dragged both of us apart and would not stop bickering about the event. 'What event?'
"Armani please enter the bathtub and do not complain about the smell or what's in it. You get in and stay there." One of the helpers said as she pushed me into the bathroom.
I could hear howling from the other room and I instantly knew it was Rob. Whatever is going on, I refuse to be part of it. I hadn't realized I was trying to sneak out until the main helper looked at me like I lost my mind. She tsked as she shook her head with disappointment. I feared for my life. As soon as I turned two bodyguards dragged me towards the bathroom. I could imagine how I sounded as soon as they threw me in the tub. With my clothes! To make things worse the tub was excruciatingly hot.
After an hour I was forced into a tight-fitting red gown that flowed to the bottom with flowery patterns below the waist. At least it didn't make my boobs seem like they were trying to jump out. they made sure my hair was curled and flowed down to my waist. Sliver accessories tainted my neck, ears and hands. I couldn't even talk them out of the heels because of the slit by the sides of the dress. Don't get me started on the makeup.
"Turn around." Mali, the helper who had scolded me in the beginning said. Once she had her fill, her entire face changed, even her aura, she glowed bright pink. Finally, a smile slowly came out and a tear fell.
"Perfect."
"Wait." Amelia (the other helper) yelled. The doors opened and Rob was dragged inside by two maids. Their faces filled with joy and excitement. As Rob huffed out a heavy breath. Once he straightened up, I could see that he was properly dressed in a fitting black suit. A red rose on his right top pocket. His hair freshly shaved and styled in a way that wouldn't untangle or mess. Our eyes locked and I couldn't help but laugh. Despite all efforts, we still looked the same.
"Looks like I'm protecting you tonight." He huffed out in annoyance.
"What's going on anyway?" I asked
"We have a joint event with another ruling empire. For the love and reputation of your mother and I, despite me knowing these people. I wouldn't like to make a fool of myself. So please behave and despite any temptations, no fights or wars." Father said with a warning look. He then straightened and gestured for us to follow him.
I wrapped my arm around his as we began to walk to the staircase.
"Inhale Courage..." I murmured.
"Exhale Fear..." Rob finished.
