CHAPTER 26 (Trust The Process)

As soon as Gunner was inside his brother's room, he made sure that the door was locked so he could be as peaceful as he is right now. But Gunner knows that the peace that he is tasting right now will not be as long as he wanted though. He took all of the buns that were inside of his shirt and also the water bottle that he had slung onto himself.

Because of hunger, he could feel himself shaking as he put the buns on the bed. He sat on the edge of the bed and opened the water bottle. He drank a little so his tongue could savor the water little by little, because he believed that he could be easily thirsty if he drank water fast and then it he believed would not be enough anymore again. Beads of sweat started trailing onto his forehead and he immediately wiped it away using the back of his hands and smiled. He was sure to survive this kind of horror. But he must not let himself down because of it, because his twin brother was still there having his hopes into him and he must not let him down.

As soon as he pampered himself and his breathing was back to normal, he looked at the buns and took one. He had at least six big buns and the five buns left he decided to hide them in case of an emergency and he didn't know if there was enough food in Dr. Vega's office, so it is better to be ready. But as he looked at his water he was not sure if he could save more because he kept on running and running for his laugh inside of the building. So he thought of a way. The sling itself did not prevent him from running even though he was fast and maybe it was safe for him to have it with him, so if he could see water, he could easily get one and have it a stock for him.

"I guess I will live here for how many days," he muttered as he took a big bite of the bun. He chewed and chewed and a tear escaped from his eyes as he ate. He immediately wiped his tears away and took a bite again. Gunner feels like he was feeling the same situation as his twin brother.

"You have suffered enough," he said as his mouth was full, but continued on chewing and sniffing. "I must eat and gain energy to save you out of here," he added, and took a bite again.

Gunner looked at his phone like it was his life and couldn't help but to burst into tears again while holding the bun.

It was all in silence and sob in the room. Gunner feels like he is lost and has a big boulder of stone on his shoulders to lift up every day. Gunner feels like maybe the gods won't let him and his twin brother live a normal life. They have taken away their parents and now his twin brother will get away from him soon? Gunner won't let it.

"Why does it feel like even the gods are against us living? Is that such a hard dream for the gods to give us?" Gunner muttered, but even though he could hear what his twin brother, Slasher, would always tell him.

'Don't blame the gods for our situation because they know what is right. They know what they are doing. We might suffer. We might want to give up, but all you see are your struggles because that is what your eyes see. But what you do not see is Him. He was always right there for us. Even in the hardest times, he was there. Giving us a life. We may barely be breathing, but at least we are still breathing, kicking and alive. We might be in a survival of the fittest, but at least there are some blessings underneath us that you won't expect. He gives us food and enough time to rest. So don't blame and just trust the process, Gunner.'

Gunner could recall every word that Slasher told him and his heart was instantly put at ease and not holding anymore grudges.

"He is right," he said as he looked at his situation. "I have my phone, my power bank. In this kind of building and losing hope for a miracle, I found food to eat and water to drink," he added, and smiled, ate the left bite of the bun and drank as many gulps of water and closed it.

He took the five left buns to hide under the bed where there was a hiding place that the slasher made except for the water bottle. He will stick to his plan of carrying it wherever he goes. He must just secure the string that he would be sliding onto his shoulders.

He took his phone and looked at the save recordings that he had. Those recordings that he has in his hands are the most important thing now in the universe, because what he saw was horror that would overtake the whole world in no time.

Gunner would call it...

"Doomsday," he whispered out of thin air as he slumped his tired body on the hard bed and closed his eyes. His body and as well as his mind, were exhausted from running and thinking.

He was about to drop off when he remembered something which made him feel his pocket jeans.

The vial...

Gunner just hopes that Dr. Vega wouldn't expect anything in his office. Gunner wanted to scan the vial using his phone but his eyelids wouldn't let him. He was exhausted and he badly wanted to sleep, but his mind was telling him to wake up and scan the vial as soon as possible.

And the last thing was his eyes were slowly closing.

His grip of the vial had loosened and before he could know it. It rolled down to the floor and Gunner fell asleep.
