Chapter 11: Date Night

Kaycee's POV

After school on Monday, the subject I had to endure felt completely unnecessary. I despised math, and honestly, I loathed school altogether. I often wondered why I even bothered; after all, I had my dad's money, and that should be enough to get by.

During my second period, I overheard some girl crying about her boyfriend kissing another girl. Drama. For once, I was glad that I had nothing to do with this one.

But let's get back to the star of the show – me. As the school cheer captain, it was expected that I should date the quarterback, Alex. He'd asked me out, and while it wasn't a love story for the ages, it served its purpose. It was all about maintaining that social status, right?

So, there we were, me and my girls - Maeve, Zoe, and Taylor, getting ready for the big night. We had a lot of fun ahead of us, and we were determined to make it memorable.

Zoe piped up, "Did you guys hear the school gossip?"

Taylor asked, "Gossip? What's going on?"

Maeve added, "Some girl got her heart broken by a nerd."

I couldn't help but react, "Wow, a nerd date? That's something you don't see every day."

Zoe chimed in, "You know, it's Soma's sister."

Taylor, now intrigued, said, "Soma is hot."

Both Maeve and Zoe agreed, "Yeah, he is."

I decided to share a bit more, "Well, you know, Soma's gay."

Maeve corrected me, "No, he's bi."

I couldn't help but wonder, "Okay, but what's the point of this conversation, again?"

I was still busy getting ready when Alex arrived to pick me up. As I descended the stairs from my room, I noticed that my dad and my stepmom, Jessica, were already downstairs with Alex.

I overheard their conversation, dominated by football talk. My dad and Alex were engaged in a lively discussion about the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins, debating which team would win the game that night. With a confident tone, I chimed in as I walked into the viewing room, "The Dallas Cowboys will win."

My input added a spark to the conversation, and I joined in the anticipation of the upcoming game. The evening was beginning, and it was clear that this date night would be an interesting one.

You might be wondering how I knew so much about football. Well, my dad and I had a tradition of never missing a game, and we'd share in the excitement of each match. That is, until this particular night when I was on a date.

The evening went smoothly as Alex and I enjoyed our time together. We chatted, laughed, and found common ground, even discussing the football game. I couldn't help but recall the many game nights spent with my dad.

As Alex brought me back home, we shared a kiss, marking the end of the night. It was a sweet conclusion to a memorable date, but as I entered my house and closed the door behind me, a question lingered in my mind. I couldn't help but ask, "Do I really like Alex?"
