22. Family

(POV General)

After the new location was given. Robin took the reins since the next target was his own city of Gotham.

Wayne Enterprises was the target which further worried Robin as they hastened their approach.

Once above Wayne Enterprises, a gray van parked right outside the building. Where after parking a man opened the side door.

Robin used the BIOSHIP and zoomed in on the man in question. This man was normal in build except for the helmet covering his face showing one red eye.

After checking the area to see if it was clear the man went back into the van to activate the Fog.

SuperBoy not giving Him any time jumped out the BIOSHIP towards the Cyclops who heard the SuperBoy's landing creating a crater.

Kid Flash and Robin soon followed the SuperBoy but safely jumped down thanks to the latches on their belts provided by BIOSHIP.

Once Superboy was on the ground Cyclops pressed a button on the side of his helmet sending a heat ray towards Superboy knocking him away for a quick second.

But that one second was all Cyclops needed to activate the Fog as it left its canister and flew towards Wayne Enterprises eating everyone it came into contact with.

Once on the ground Robin and Kid ran as fast as they could into the building to evacuate everyone.

Kid swiftly moved with lightning speed saving those who he could grab while Robin tried finding a technical device in Wayne Enterprises to hopefully upload the Virus the Doctor was almost finished with.

Back at the pier located in Happy Harbor. Aqua-Lad proceeded with his watch over the Forest preventing any intruders who wished to harm the good Doctor.

During the watch, a dart could be heard being shot at a fast speed fast enough to fly past Lad's senses hitting His neck and slowly knocking him out.

Once on the ground, Cheshire appeared from the shadows looking over her quarry she had caught while her two allies slowly came into the light.

The first is a man in a black and red jumpsuit. Had huge yellow bug eyes attached to the mask. While on the back was a spider symbol.

The other was a man with white hair, a black trench coat, and a noticeable right hand that was missing with it being replaced by a large steel hook.

"The Martian can't be far from behind we must get to the target and beware of the parrot."

Black Spider and Hook simply looked at each other confused on why Cheshire would be scared of a Parrot.

But didn't want to talk against their superior witting the League of Shadows and decided to keep their mouths shut and simply followed orders.

Once in front of the location, there was a simple church on the far edges of Happy Harbor. Cheshire used her sighs to climb the building while Hook shot the door with well you guessed it his Hook.

Upon contact with the door, the said door broke into smithereens revealing both Dr. Roquette and Artemis who had already drawn on her bow and released an arrow.

Once cocked and released the arrow almost got contact with Hook but was stopped by a scarlet web incapacitating the arrow and sending it to stick to the wall.

Black Spider continued to fire its crimson webbing at all moving targets. Hook followed Spider's footsteps firing his hook at Artemis who dodged every attack.

While distracted Cheshire sneaked into the building by opening a window and was about to attack only to be surprised by the shift in skin color.

Dr. Roquette who was once white skin soon turned into an emerald green with her once brown eyes becoming red.

Cheshire knew then and there that she was tricked and began to exit the way she came in only to hear a squeaking sound and a voice.

"Where do you think you're going!"

Cheshire looked up to the voice seeing a being flying towards her with extreme speed.

Before she could react she was immediately forced to feel a familiar feeling of being forced into a wall and glass.

Once crashed through everyone's attention was taken away by the forced entry of Astrodacytl and Cheshire hitting the ground.

Once the new crater was scene by Artemis she used the opportunity and fired a net web at a black spider where upon contact the arrow exploded wrapping the Black Spider in a black net and tying him up.

Miss Martian followed Artemis's example and used her psychic powers sending Hook towards Black Spider knocking the spider unconscious.

Hook after hitting the wall hoisted his anchor attempting to shoot it back again.

"*Squawk* don't you think about it."

Astrodacytl then fired a green energy blast at Hook soon joining his sleeping alley right next to the wall. Leaving the only one being Cheshire conscious.

Cheshire began to play dead trying to fool everyone by slowing her breathing and keeping her body toned especially the brain to keep the Martian guessing.

Aqua-Lad came through the door with the Doctor saying.

"The Virus has been sent to Robin."

Once everyone's focus was elsewhere Cheshire released another smoke pellet.

Cheshire utilizing the well-placed diversion began to leave using the hole Astrodacytl created by shoving her through the ceiling.

Cheshire simply scoffed and said to the Doctor.

"You may live to program another day. But the Shadows may find uses for you."

With that Cheshire began to leave only for Artemis to stop her outside.

Cheshire simply spoke confidently taking her mask off.

"Of all the people of course it'd be you."

Cheshire then turned facing Artemis who began talking about their family issues until Astrodacytl appeared in front of Artemis and Cheshire.

"This is your only free be."

Cheshire and Artemis were surprised and Artemis wanted to interject but was stopped by Astrodacytl's hand quieting her down.

Cheshire smiled and then locked eyes with him asking.

"You must have had it rough."

Cheshire didn't explain anything to what she meant and simply blended into the shadows and vanished.

After leaving Aqua-Lad ran out of the prior asking.

"Shift what happened to the Assassin?"

Astrodacytl looked to Aqua-Lad while to his back. To Artemis who was staring, hoping, he wouldn't reveal anything.

"She escaped she dropped her mask but faced the opposite direction as she escaped preventing us from seeing her face."

During the fight between Cheshire and the team, Robin was having his own problems.

As Robin ran through the crumbling building once known as Wayne Enterprises. As the building was crumbling a flash of someone kept passing Robin.

Kid was on civilian duty helping all those he could grabbing them and then bringing them to safety outside.

After passing Kid for the umpteenth time Robin finally found a cash register that seemed to connect to the building which he used to connect to the internet.

And as if Aqua-Lad knew his predicament a message was heard in his ear.

"Robin the Virus has been sent to you."

Robin then smiled as he plugged his USB into its port.

"About freaking time."

After a few moments of hacking Robin proudly claimed.

"The infiltrators have been Outfiltrated."

Once the code was sent the once-black Fog began to eat away at itself becoming a red cloud.

Outside the building, a blood-curdling scream could be heard from Cyclops.

"No!!!"

SuperBoy like Cheshire utilized the chance and began to run towards Cyclops about to hit him only for Cyclops to see him coming.

With a familiar hand motion Cyclops shot another Heat beam. Hitting SuperBoy but unlike last time he simply blocked the beam with his hand and then uppercutted Cyclops knocking him out.

Soon the team reconvened at the base where Kid began complaining about how boring his side of the mission was until Shift now Shift gave Kid Cheshire's mask who then squealed.

"Souvenir!"

After everyone went their separate ways Shift began to walk away to his room likely to read a book to cloud his thoughts as many memories began to flood in.

"Um"

But before he could leave Artemis had followed him to right outside his room and simply said.

"Thank you."

Shift took off his mask showing a face of remorse and then looked at Artemis. Who upon looking at his face saw the trouble on it and asked.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Shift dryly chuckled opening his door saying as he gestured to Artemis.

"You first"

Artemis also dryly chuckled and walked into Josh's room and began to talk unbeknownst to them someone was overhearing them.

Somewhere far from the knowledge of people.

Stood a great castle-like mansion on an unknown island where inside sat the Mentor in a customized room of a Japanese man.

Surrounding Mentor was a group of televisions with the same cutout images.

"It seems that the Fog has been stopped not before STAR labs knowledge was taken."

"Yeah, these 'heroes' are becoming a nuisance."

First, a new voice spoke aloud with a childish demeanor and playfulness in his voice.

The first voice was a familiar one with a forced tone and military-like attitude. Then the lead voice spoke.

"It seems The Light has found itself an enemy."

Soon the real meeting took place after dismissing Mentor and once everyone began to leave only two televisions stayed on.

"How is project DOWNFALL?"

The calm voice asked quizzically to his fellow Light member. Which in result his question was answered.

"Ze project is going well but to complete Ze project I require the requested DNA."

"I understand but the procurement is becoming difficult as the rest of our viable DNA was used up in project Kr."

The calm voice spoke with annoyance which The Brain decided to push.

"Vell to keep myself occupied I vish to have permission to send some of my zubordinates to recover my new side project."

The Brain knew of what grounds where he was treading but knew no fear as he was the head scientist of The Light and already knew too much to be disposed of.

"You may"

With those two words, The Brain quickly shut his television off and called out to Mallah.

"Mousier Mallah send a scout robot provided by Doctor Dorian to retrieve Ze's specimen."

Mallah with a familiar grunt began pressing buttons in the lab.

After placing the orders into the computer a robotic vulture flew from the far corners of the lab. Flying out towards its target.
