The House of Fairies

My alarm rang at about 7:30 in the morning and as usual, I got up quarter past 12 as my stomach was having a revolution. I did not have anything for dinner last night. I went straight to bed after I finished unboxing those stuffs from my old place a road. It was a sad thing to do similar to envisioning myself and my life inside that " unwanted box".

I was not sure if I did the right thing to come back in my hometown. I felt like a coward but back then and there, I knew I just needed to go home.

I checked my email and my phone. I was not surprised to have found nothing. It has always been the story of my life. Too common to be remembered, to plain to be admired, too typical to be elevated. I'm just Emily Christensen. Single, currently unemployed, almost 30 and nothing else significant to say. Sometimes I wonder, if this is purgatory. My life was meaningless and if I die today, I wonder how many people would care to show up in my funeral.

Another day, another pity party that I threw for myself. I was so hungry and I kept on thinking about that Indian Restaurant to devour on their hot curries and maybe cry while drowning myself with their chilli sauce and spices. I was also contemplating if I will grab beers on my way back home to fall back into sleep once again. It was just me, myself, the curries and the alcoholic. What an epic party inside my head.

When I had my takeaway, I was about to cross the street and grab my long awaited beers but I overheard a conversation with these women at my back. " I have a new boyfriend. My husband is stalking me like crazy and begging me to forgive him. Bella made me live again" the taller woman said. " I went to her shop this morning and I bought everything!" giggled by the other one. I thought they were silly and naive but I decided to go visit that shop and laugh about all the ignorance and desperation of these hyper imaginative people.

I noticed a " CLOSE" sign on the front door and a very beautiful enigmatic woman stepped outside and locked the shop. She looked so familiar yet I couldn't remember where or how I met her. She was wearing a blue silk dress, long enough to cover her delicate body. She has a skin of a baby, smooth and radiant. Her long dark hair was brushed to perfection revealing some crystal ornaments pinned on her luminous tresses. She looked like a dream. So unreal and so captivating. It was just looking at a storybook with this magical beauty that could only exist in the other world.

" Can I help you?" She asked. Her voice was mesmerisingly soft and her eyes were strikingly deep blue like an ocean. And I lied of course, I told her I was waiting for a friend and I just happened to see her shop. She said she decided to close early so she could rest and gather her ingredients at tomorrow at dawn. She handpicked everything in the forest some kilometres away from here and she made everything by herself. She learned from a lifetime of travelling and camping on different countries with vast natural ingredients. " Everything I use is from nature itself. If the people only knew what is hidden in the forests, no one would dare to ruin it. " she explained with a sad look on her face. She opened her bag and hand me something wrapped in brown paper. " Please accept my gift as your neighbor. Try to use it when you are having a nice warm bath" She left before I could even say a word. We did not even introduce ourselves to each other.

I walked back home, had a feast with my Indian foods and drowned myself with cans of beers. This is my life.. Always alone, never special, never outstanding. These words were playing inside my head over and over again. I was getting a bit drunk and I accidentally poured the green curry on chest. It was too hot and sticky. As I was preparing clean myself, I unwrapped the gift I received from that " fairy" and it was a shiny soap that looked like a sapphire. At first look, anyone can be fooled and would think that it was indeed a precious gem. It smelled so good and it was so soft on my skin. It was like bathing on a sparkling fresh milk filled with fragrances from different flowers. I felt so pampered I that I failed to realise that I fell asleep on the bathtub.

It was the beginning of the enchantment..
