Being The Villian So No One Else Has To

Every world that has superpowers has superheroes and supervillains. At least, that's what Ryan thinks. The only problem is that there are plenty of heroes. but no villains. The last "big bad villain" was defeated and subsequently killed over 20 years ago. Ever since then, no villain's stepped up. usually, Sarah would be more than happy with that, but in the stead of villain's, all the heroes have become lazy celebrities, complacent and weak. They still save people, but damn are they incompetent at it. They never had a real challenge in 20 years, so why would they need to care? So, Ryan, in a fit of drunken inspiration, decides to use his superpower to BE the next "Big Bad". Inspire the Heroes to actually try again. Plus, which comic nerd hasn't thought that being the bad guy would be pretty fun?

Chapter 3

Ryan awoke from his bed with a pounding headache, trying to remember when he got back home. He looks around his apartment, noting that it's the same as always. Then he happened to glance up and immediately sighed.

"Hi bro! You drunk yourself to sleep, so I decided to bring you back here and left this little note to remind you! Also, hopefully you remember what you said you proclaimed you'd do, because I think it's a good idea, and I can't wait to see how you pull it off!"

Ryan looked at the note for a moment longer before creating a portal under the note, therefore practically erasing it from existence. Ryan then stood up from his bed looking for anything his sister might have misplaced as a joke. While doing that, he wonders what he could have possibly proclaimed while drunk, and what he could say that his sister would want to remind him of.

looking around his room, he only notices one thing out of place, a heroes academy poster he knew he never put up. he looks closer, noticing there is a small list of sign-ups under the poster, most names unknown to him except for one. He looks at it shocked for a moment.

"WHAT!?" he says, stunned.

His sister was signing up for hero training!?

He stops for a moment, just reeling his thoughts back in. After a moment, he calms down and starts to think on why that would be such a big problem. Just like him, his sister also has the ability to warp space. Specifically, Sarah's ability is to teleport herself anywhere she can see, and to places she can visualize good enough. She may even bring another person with her if she concentrates hard enough. She was fast too, more like blinks then teleportation. Ryan brings up his hand and creates a small blue portal over his hand. Ryan's ability is similar but objectively stronger. He can create portals of almost any size leading to any place he could possibly visualize. Whether that be across the room or across the city to a park he's only ever seen photos of, he can do it. Strangely, he could also change the color and look of his portals. Concentrating, he changed his small smooth blue portal into a green blocky portal, then a red portal that rippled like water. Changing the look did literally nothing to the effectiveness of said portal, which lessened the surprise of the portals.

Ryan was proud of his and his sister's abilities, even if they weren't exactly unique. There were a good number of heroes who had some form of space warping, like Dimenstro, who could warp other people to wherever he's been to before. Or Portella, who could create hundreds of small portals at the same time, or one giant portal if needed.

Ryan thought that his sister joining the hero academy may not actually be all that bad, but it was certainly a surprise, Sarah never gave any indicators that she was even interested. Ryan stopped and seriously considered if he should join too. He never gave any thoughts to doing it in the past because it never appealed to him, mostly because of his depression.

Suddenly, Sarah popped into his small house, surprising him out of his thoughts.

"How's it going, bro?" She says casually, leaning on his doorframe

"When and why did you sign up for hero training?" Ryan asks, pointing at the poster.

"Oh yeah. I've actually been considering it for a while. Bro, I'm sick of living in a small apartment. I'm happy your anonymous book writing has made you decent cash, but I'm sick of being poor. What better way for someone with an ability to make money? being a superhero of course!" Sarah said, making a pose like she was getting her picture taken.

Ryan rolled his eyes, "Of course you would join the celebrity train. Another fake hero to add to the market."

"Oh, but I won't be a fake hero, and if my plan goes accordingly, neither will any of those students. After all, a new supervillain is rumored to show up soon." Sarah says, looking pointedly at Ryan.

"what are you-" Ryan started, then stopped shocked. Apparently hearing those words unlocked his memories of last night, and everything he said came flooding in his mind.

"No. NO! That was just drunk me talking! Why would I ever do something that stupid!?" Ryan said, still stunned.

Strangely, Ryan had to admit that for some reason, the idea actually held some appeal to him, especially his actor side, but it was such a stupid idea he buried it in indignation.

"Oh come on bro! you keep saying that heroes are weak and pathetic these days. Why don't you change that? why don't you become the villain they have to face?" Sarah said, smiling coyly.

"Because I'll get arrested for no reason?" Ryan says, starting to get a bit mad now. He agrees that the heroes need a challenge, but not RYAN!

"No-no, look, it's the perfect scheme! You can portal anywhere, so you'd never get caught! another thing is that you should only target the academy, so that the younger heroes-in-training get the taste of true danger, before they become cocky celebrities. And because you're only targeting the academy, it'll just be weak trainees who face you, with maybe a strong teacher or two. As a bonus, you even get to help me! You can have me "defeat" you every run in, therefore cementing my place as a proper hero, maybe even making me the new top hero! Come on bro, don't you wanna help your wittle sister?" Sarah explained, doing a baby voice and puppy dog eyes at the end.

Ryan angrily turned away from his sister, while secretly contemplating the idea. His sister, while also having the ability to teleport, had also gained faster brain power to cope with the idea of ending up in different spots every time she used her powers, making her smarter than the average person. With that knowledge, Ryan had to wonder if her plan had any merit. he paced for a moment, going over all the idea's she said, and had to admit that it wasn't a terrible plan.

"Wouldn't I have to actually fight the students? And you?" Ryan asked, turning around and facing Sarah.

"I thought of that! You see, we both took fighting classes for a good while now, and I know we both could wipe the floor with any average joe-" Sarah started.

"that's not what I meant. I know we can fight fairly well, but wouldn't I have to actually hurt other people to get the message across?" Ryan asked, holding up his hand.

"well yes, I suppose. And me too. But that's ok! look at it this way, it's just very intense method acting! Besides, do you have to get physical with them? you can just portal them into buildings or something. Hell, your power is perfect for non-confrontational fighting!" Sarah pleaded, not giving up on the idea.

"Well, ok I guess. And... with my powers to change the look of my portals, with how many warping heroes there are, they would never suspect a thing..." Ryan muttered, hesitantly warming up to the idea.

"Yeah! It's a perfect plan! hell, I could be your "spy" on the inside! so, if anyone suspects your involvement, I can make that "evidence" disappear!" Sarah said excitably.

Ryan pauses for a moment, before looking back at the poster.

"Fine. I'll be your 'villain'-" Sarah whoops happily, but is stopped when Ryan brings up his hand "-but I'm also going to join the academy, and I'm going to be the villain my way."
