The furnace of rage inside Lanse outed with a heavy sigh. He was not going to lose his rank as team leader to separate himself from the scum beside him. He clenched the hand that once held the sword into a tight fist on the kitchen counter. But the growl in his head was more defined than the hologram he turned his head away from.
Tess stared at the side of Lanse's head with his gaze inside the cupboard. He was thinking about something, and it had nothing to do with the snacks inside it. But with Sensei watching them on the hologram and the silence, the pain at her wrist overtook her mind. Lanse had to be feeling it as well.
The soreness around both their wrists was mind-stabbing. It could have been worse if the heavy metal cuff wasn't resting on the kitchen counter. But the uncomfortable cramps were coming. They kept their wrists steady to prevent their skin from touching the sharp sides of the metal rings.
