Chapter 96 "Tuition Fee"

Upon hearing Lupin's words, both Wentworth and Cedric stood there in shock.

Cedric, who had been previously worried about his father, opened his mouth in surprise.

He then turned to Wentworth with a strange expression on his face.

"What do you think I'm doing? Do you suspect that I had something to do with this? Even if I had such abilities, I wouldn't be standing here right now," Wentworth quickly responded, sensing Cedric's scrutiny.

Cedric shook his head vigorously and said, "Of course I know you couldn't have done this. But, maybe your family is involved? I've never heard you talk about your family."

Wentworth sighed and feigned sadness, saying, "I don't have a family. I'm an orphan. My parents passed away a long time ago, and I was raised by the House-elves in my family. Just before coming to Hogwarts, I watched the last house-elf who cared for me grow old and pass away."

Although Wentworth delivered this story with apparent sorrow, he secretly harbored a bold suspicion that his family might be involved in the recent events.

Thinking about Rosier, Abernathy, and others' actions that night, he found it consistent with their character.

Cedric, upon hearing Wentworth's words, immediately regretted his inquiry and apologized, saying, "I'm sorry, Wentworth, I didn't mean to bring up such a painful topic."

Wentworth waved his hand dismissively, indicating it wasn't an issue.

Lupin, who had been silently observing their exchange, remained contemplative.

Later, they resumed their practice of spells, breaking only for lunch.

In the evening, as the sun was setting, Lupin clapped his hands, signaling the end of their practice.

"Alright, boys, let's call it a day. Head back to Hogwarts and get some rest. I'll be waiting for you here tomorrow morning."

Wentworth and Cedric thanked Lupin and made their way back to Hogwarts through the secret passage.

However, before Cedric could exit the Shrieking Shack, Wentworth approached Lupin and took out a stack of golden Galleons.

"Mr. Lupin, thank you very much for your guidance today. These Galleons are Cedric's and my tuition fees."

Lupin was surprised by the offer but refused to accept the money.

He pushed Wentworth's hand away with a smile, saying, "No need, Wentworth. Professor Dumbledore has already covered your tuition fees."

Wentworth was momentarily taken aback by Lupin's response.

As a member of the Order of the Phoenix, Lupin was privy to Professor Dumbledore's plans, and Wentworth's status as the Grindelwald family heir had been communicated to Lupin before their meeting.

Lupin misunderstood Wentworth's intention, thinking that Wentworth hesitated to accept Professor Dumbledore's money due to the historical enmity between the Grindelwalds and Professor Dumbledore.

However, Wentworth had a different intention in mind.

He couldn't bear the thought of using Professor Dumbledore's money, especially considering how much effort Professor Dumbledore had already put into arranging a teacher for him.

Wentworth was determined to carry his own financial burden.

Lupin hesitated but finally accepted the money. Wentworth continued, "The Wolfsbane Potion that Professor Dumbledore provides you with isn't for your tuition. It's to ensure the safety of Hogwarts students. I can't use Professor Dumbledore's money for that."

Lupin was taken aback by Wentworth's revelation.

He had misunderstood Wentworth's motive, thinking that he didn't want to accept money from his family's enemies, the Grindelwalds.

But now he realized Wentworth's true concern.

Wentworth continued, "The Wolfsbane Potion is not a tuition fee; it's an investment in my safety."

Interrupted by Wentworth again, Lupin remained silent for a moment, then said, "Thank you."

With the matter settled, Wentworth and Cedric left Lupin alone.
