22. Despite All Impossibility

Nick stared deep into her eyes as a look of shock grew on his face. Despite the truth he knew, here he sat being told what should be impossible. His mind began to race. How and why were the first questions to cross his mind. The last was what; what will he or she become?

This, to his knowledge was unprecedented. Having been living with Jin for as long as he has, he'd long since heard of her time living with a pack of other beasts. The same pack that had wiped everything they had known as well as turned the both of them into what they are today.

Gazing in awe at her, "Have you ever heard of this happening before? You know, from the others." Nick was baffled yet excited. He couldn't comprehend how or why this had happened yet he was looking forward to the outcome. Jin could read his thoughts right off his face. At first, she was scared to tell him because she herself didn't understand it. Now, seeing the excitement flaring in his gaze, she was happy.

Beaming, "Hundreds of years stuck with them and I'd only ever heard of one of our kind ever being able to have kids. He was the original wolf. It's said that from him, every wolf was born." Jin showed a sign of curiosity as she told the fable to him but she was convinced they could face all calamity that may come with having this child.

Astounded by the tale, "For as long as I've lived, I still know very little of what we are. If it wasn't for you I'd still be a slave to this curse. Now, I want to learn all I can. I want to build a future without bloodshed. A future where we can all live in peace." Nick has cemented a goal for himself. His will alone won't be enough to realize this dream and he damn well knows it, yet he refuses to bend to the odds stacked against him.
