55 The War Starts

The next day came fast, Ben woke up before the sun rose. Giving Cloey a kiss on her forehead, he let her sleep as he headed toward the north gate. He donned his new armour that was pitch black in colour with a red emblem on his chest. The emblem had a phoenix, dragon and a wolf depicted. Emma designed it from Ben's soul beast.

Ben quickly made his way to the north wall. He was standing on the wall looking out into the distance, looking for his enemies.

"Go take a rest, I will cover the rest of your shift." Ben told the guards on duty.

"Thank you City Lord." the guards bowed and headed home.

Ben released all his soul beasts.

Ben smiled, his soul beast have gotten stronger and so had he.

"Are all of you ready for todays battle?" Ben asked them.

Through his link with them he could feel each of their bloodlust sky rocket.

"Hahahaha! Same! Let's show them who is truly strong!" Ben laughed maniacally, looking north he screamed, "Bring it on you zombie fuckers!"

"It's too early for this, isn't it City Lord?" a voice complained behind Ben.

Turning around Ben saw all five of his generals dressed in their armour and robes. James who had just spoke, was smirking at Ben.

"Aren't you excited for today?" Ben asked them.

Shenelle and Lilith both rolled their eyes at him while Colton beat his chest in

excitement. Lane kept quiet but Ben could see the fire in his eyes.

"We will defend our home today, not only our home but we will show those damn aliens that humans are strong and won't disappear without a fight." Ben said with a crazy smile on his face.

"Yes we will." James said quietly, looking south.

"You guys jealous of the others taming a beast?" Ben smirked, looking at James and Lance.

"After this invasion I will go find myself a strong beast that is better than all of them." Lance said confidently.

"My Lord." Deke said, appearing from a shadow. "The Shadows did what you asked. The army size is a strong 500,000 with zombie beasts. They have a few flying beast carrying mutant zombies. They will be here within two hours."

"Alert the troops. Let's get ready for battle." Ben commanded, sending his generals to prepare and lead their troops.

The generals quickly left to prepare their troops. Ben turned to Deke and said, "When the battle begins I want you to identify important targets and eliminate them. They really important ones report to me and I will handle it."

Deke nodded and disappeared.

Ben looked at Takon and Ava and said, "When the fight begins we will have to get rid of the flying beasts quickly so we can join the ground battle."

'We?' Ava asked.

"Yes we. I will be fighting with you two while Duke helps the ground soldiers." Ben said.

The sun soon peaked over the wall and light flooded the city. The citizens were soon to awake as they all knew today was important. The city was soon fully awake and everyone was busy. The southern part of the city was to be evacuated while barricades were made inside the gate in case they broke through. Ben could see James' rangers mounted on the Red Forest Wolves as they prepared arrows and other supplies for the battle.

Colton's warriors were admiring their new weapons as they created the vanguard. Shenelle and he mages stood on the wall with rangers, ready to cast spells at the enemies.

Lilith had distributed her healers behind the warriors and knights for them to heal efficiently.

While those 2 generals waited below, Ben, James, Deke and Shenelle were on the walls.

"You two ready?" Ben asked. He could see the zombies approaching now. The battle was about to begin.

They both slowly nodded.

"Deke, assign some scouts to each wall. I don't want to be surprised." Ben said.

Deke nodded and took out a communication jade, after issuing a few commands he put it away and stared at the incoming force.

'They outnumber us almost 7 to 1.' Ben thought. His army now was 75,000 strong but he knew that only half of them were battle tested.

'I hope Ava and the rest are able to make up the difference.'

The first zombie broke through the forest and started sprinting towards the gate. Soon thousands of zombies were running towards the wall.

A ranger took out an arrow and lit the arrowhead with fire.

"Not yet." I said watching the zombies approach. Once they crossed the halfway mark I yelled, "Now!"

The ranger shot the arrow, not towards the zombies but in front of them.

As the arrow landed on the ground, fire engulfed the land.

The dwarves created this mixture of flammable substances and spread it all over the ground before the fight.

Ben watched as the zombies burned but didn't smile, this was only a drop in the ocean. The fire was effective and continued to burn the zombies until the substance ran out, leaving a charred battlefield with burn corpses.

From out of the tree line emerged thousands of regular zombies but what caught Ben's eye were the numerous amount of mutant zombies. And behind the mutant zombies was the zombie king riding a large wolf. Beside him were 3 huge mutant zombies riding wolves as well. What worried Ben was he couldn't see any of the flying demon beast.

"He's finally here." Ben muttered under his breath. "Mages prepare to attack! Try and conserve your mana! Archers focus your fire on the mutant zombies. And if anyone hits me or my soul beasts I will feed your to the zombies myself!"

Large black wings sprouted from Ben's back, making him look like a fallen angel.

"We will not fall! We will not die! We will win!" Ben's voice carried over the city, his confidence and words ignited a fire inside the army.

Takon let out a soul shaking roar after, emphasizing Ben's words.

The zombies felt the challenge and started to charge again.

"Mages fire! Archers fire!" Shenelle and James both yelled.

A wave of arrows and spells rained down onto the zombies.
