Chapter 31: Congrats! Now Get to Work.

"Another Long Island."

The bartender does a double-take, both of us knowing darn well that I was just here for one a few seconds ago. The tears stopped after the first drink. Maybe the emotions will go down with the second one.

"Celebrating without me?" Jasper gasps, wrapping his arm around my shoulders.

"I waited, but your photo op with The Fairweathers took too long and I had to refill." I shake my glass at him. "Want a taste?"

He moves closer, lips brushing my ear. "What exactly are you offering?"

A chill runs down my spine and I giggle, unsure how to respond. Do I dare offer more when Saz is probably not too far behind? I deflate a little. The days of Saz’s protection are far behind me. Now that he's engaged.

A squeal erupts from the crowd on the lawn and I watch Zelia and Tamara stare at the pink diamond gleaming in the sunlight. Jasper nibbles at my ear a little, pulling back my attention. "Why don't we get out of here and let the lovebirds have their fun?"
