173 Gecko Island

I ended Koby's lesson just in time as the Athena's God Bidoof just stopped a few meters from the coast of the Gecko Island, a quite large island with two pretty famous sloped hills, one for being the chosen battlefield for the fight between Captain Kuro, his Black Cat Pirates and Luffy and his merry band of wannabe pirates, while the other, is famous for being the wrong hill where Zoro and Luffy found themselves waiting as they got lost.

There is also a quite vast forest and a hilly landmark where Syrup Village is located, famous for being the home of the God of Comedy, Usopp.

This time the girls choose to remain on the ship as they aren't interested in visiting this island, so only I and Koby will set foot on the island.

So to not waste too much time, I grab Koby from the scoff of his weighted shirt, and with a single jump, I reach the beach while dragging a screaming Koby with me.

As soon as we land on the sandy beach, before we can start to move toward the Syrup Village, a somewhat confident voice yells, "Stop! I am the great pirate fleet leader, who is in charge of the security of this village! I'm also known as "Captain", Captain Usopp! It's best if you don't try to attack this village because my 80 million men are not going to forgive you!"

And indeed in front of us the familiar figure of a young man appears, he is a slim tan-skinned teenager with medium-length black curly hair, prominent lips, and a long nose, and is wearing an olive green plaid bandanna, a blue and white striped armband on his left arm, brown overalls with a white sash and no shirt underneath, he also carries with him a yellow satchel, which he stores all his tools and gadgets in, he is the one and only Usopp just a couple of years younger than the version I'm used to, maybe around 15 years old or so.

Before this could escalate any further, I quickly say, "First, you are clearly lying, there is only you here." making Usopp instantly panic as he holds his face in the Scream style as he yells, "Waaa! I've been found out!!!" then I continue, "Second, we aren't pirates and have no intention of attacking the village, in fact, we are here to see if we can be of help to someone, I'm a doctor, and quite a good one at that-"

But before I could even finish the sentence, Usopp grabs my hand and asks, "Are you really a doctor!?" to which I simply nod, then he quickly says, "Then hurry up! Kaya's parents are... they are dying!!" and as he said that, he starts to pull me with him, as he leads the way toward Syrup Village as we start to run up the slope while a surprised Koby behind us yells "W-Wait!" and start to chase after us.

I allow Usopp to pull me because I'm seriously curious, I don't remember much about Kaya's parents, but I remember reading that they both died of natural causes, something quite strange as they both weren't old enough to die in such a way, especially considering that at the moment they have a daughter or about 14 to 15 years old, putting their age at around their mid-30s if they had her in their younger years to their mid-40s to 50s if they had her later, an almost impossible age to die of natural cause, even more so if one considers the stronger physique of the people of this world, making them more resistant to the usual ailments, and the fact that they both died more or less at the same time is also highly suspicious.

And so, after running for about 3 minutes at Usopp's pace, we finally reach the peaceful Syrup Village, a typical sleepy community, surrounded by grasslands, dirt trails, hills, and forests full of simplistic houses, with the iconic Kaya's luxurious, white mansion sticking out among them, overall, it is quite a nice place, that slightly reminds me of some villages in rural England.

Soon we run through the whole village and arrive in front of the big fenced mansion, quickly Usopp rushes toward the metal gate and starts to yell, "Open up!! I brought a doctor!!! Quickly! Open!"

After a few moments, the entrance door of the mansion opens up and two men calmly come out and walk toward the gate.

One is a tall, formally dressed butler whose most distinguishing feature is his lamb-themed appearance, his hair is curly like a lamb's fleece and has two lamb horns sticking out of it, his lips also resemble those of a lamb's, and even his collar has a fleece around it, he looks like some kind of Mink-Human hybrid, something quite possible as basically there is almost no interspecies compatibility issue in this world, he is Merry, the man famous for building the Going Merry.

Meanwhile, the other is a tall and slim man with glasses and slicked black hair, he wears a black suit with two golden markings on it over a white shirt with a curious collar, spiral-like protrusions on the edges, and a standard black tie, he also sports striped shoes, and of course, he is the captain of the Black Cat Pirates, Kuro of a Hundred Plans, who faked his own capture and death to escape the Marine pursuit and came to this village to start a new life full of luxury and peace.

Seeing the pair together, I can't control the impulse to take a look at their souls, and I can't help but think in surprise as my gaze lays on them, 'Dayum! They can't be more different! Merry has a very light blue soul, it is almost a pure white soul, on the other hand, Kuro's soul is almost pitch black showing what a piece of trash he truly is!'

While I'm looking at them, the pair stops in front of the gate but they don't open it, and soon Kuro looks at us and loudly clicks his tongue then he fixes his slipped-off glasses by pushing them up with the heel of his hand, an habit he has ingrained for the constant use of his favorite weapon the Cat Claws, a pair of furred gloves with full-length katana blades at the end of each finger.

After that, he says in a condescending tone, "You are here again you stinking brat? We don't have time for your ridiculous lies today. The madam and the lord are seriously ill and the young lady is worried sick! So scram!"

Usopp doesn't give up and yells, "I'm not lying this time! He is really a doctor! He just arrived on the island a few minutes ago! At first, I thought that he was a pirate but then he said that he was a doctor so I brought him here."

Kuro takes a quick look at me and Koby behind me, then he looks back at Usopp and says in a mocking tone, "And you believed him? Just look at him in what way he looks like some kind of doctor. You got fooled you idiot. Now scram we don't have time to waste with scammers and people like you." and is quickly followed by Merry who adds, "Klahadore is right. We truly don't have time for your lies at the moments." then both turn around and start to walk back toward the mansion's entrance.

Just as an angry Usopp is about to rush forward and yell something, I put a hand on his shoulder to stop him, then I ask forward and say, "Can I ask you something?"

Hearing my voice, both stop and look at me, and I notice that Kuro looks especially annoyed and is barely able to hold himself back from attacking us, but he quickly covers everything under his loyal butler facade, meanwhile, Merry asks, "What is it now?"

With a smirk, I point at Kuro and ask, "Since when are notorious and dangerous pirate captains hired as butlers?"

As soon as my words enter everyone's ears, Usopp and Koby instantly have the exact same reaction, they both jump back and exclaim in surprise while holding their faces with their mouths wide open in perfect sync, ""Whaaaat!?""

Meanwhile, I see a huge tick mark appear on Kuro's forehead as he briefly releases a thick killing intent, before quickly composing himself and forcing a confused expression on his face, at the same time, Merry quickly moves to defend his trusted fellow butler as they both had a friendly relationship during the previous year of serving the family together, "That's ridiculous, there is no way that Klahadore is a pirate captain! What pirate captain would work as a butler for over a year!? He just isn't that kind of guy, you didn't see how deeply he cares for the young lady and the family. It's just impossible!!"

At this point, I simply materialize the wanted poster recreating it from my memory in my shorts' pocket, pull it out, and show it to them while saying, "But that's you right? Kuro of a Hundred Plans, notorious captain of the Black Cat Pirates."

Indeed the wanted poster is just like the original I saw in the anime, showing a shadowy image of Kuro as he pushes up his glasses with the heel of his hand armed with his Cat Claw, while it isn't the cleanest image it is still pretty easy to recognize that the man painted on the poster is the same one standing in front of me.

But Kuro maintains his calm facade as he says, "That isn't me. I know of this Captain Kuro you are talking about, but he was captured and executed by the Marine Captain Morgan of the nearby 153rd Branch more than a year ago. It is an unfortunate coincidence that we just look similar, but I'm not this Kuro you speak of. I'm Klahadore, faithful butler of this family."

At this point, Merry who realizes the truth behind my words takes a step back and mutters in shock and disbelief, "Klahadore, you..." while at the same time, he also moves his hand to grab the pistol he always carries with him in case it is needed to defend his employers.

Hearing that, I quickly reassure him, "Don't worry, he is completely out cold and won't wake up for at least a couple of hours, and even then he would have some difficulties moving around as he broke quite a few of his bones... but if that would make you feel safer, we can leave Koby and Usopp here to tie him up and watch over him..."

Hearing my proposal, Merry nods and then moves to open the gate to let Usopp and Koby in while I give them an iron chain I just materialized so that they can tie Kuro up with it for further safety, and it is clear that Merry is still somewhat shocked by Kuro's real identity revelation as he didn't question the sudden appearance of the iron chain and simply led me into the mansion.

I quickly follow Merry as he leads me into the room where Kaya's ill parents are currently residing and see that they are under the care of the other worried maids, butlers, and the village doctor who is doing everything in his power to save them.

I also see a younger Kaya standing nearby as she is silently looking at this scene with eyes full of sorrow as tears constantly fall from them and mark her face.

She is a slim and pale-skinned girl with pale blonde hair and wide brown eyes, that are of a sort of lighter shade, and is wearing a simple blue skirt, and a cyan shirt.

Then my gaze moves from her as I look at her mysterious parents, who are both lying unconscious on separate beds.

Her mother looks just like an older and more voluptuous version of Kaya, her hair is slightly darker in color, and I can't see her eyes because they are currently closed, but seeing how similar she is to her daughter, her eyes are probably the same color or slightly darker.

Meanwhile, her father has a quite distinguished look, he is a middle-aged man with brown short hair and a well-trimmed goatee, like his wife, he also is lying on the bed unconscious.

Our presence instantly catches everyone's attention, and one of the maids, one who is quite older and with an imposing presence making me realize that she is probably the head maid and housekeeper, comes closer and warily asks, "Merry, what was that ruckus outside? Where is Klahadore? And who is this person?" making Merry, who still didn't fully digest Kuro's revelation, awkwardly reply, "Well, a lot happened... Klahadore wasn't who we thought he was...Anyway, this person here is a doctor who just came to this island and learned about the Lady and the Lord from that Usopp brat so he came here to check on the situation... his name is..."

At this point, he stops as he realizes that he still doesn't know my name as he didn't have the time to ask me that with everything that is going on, so I quickly help him and introduce myself with a calm and reassuring smile, "My name is Pucci Jayr, a simple doctor exploring this world with his family, nice to meet you, ma'am."

It's always good to keep oneself in shape, especially in case I'm sent to a world where I can't use my powers and I'm forced to rely on the more common methods. Of course, if they truly are in danger, I'll quickly use everything at my disposal to save them as saving a life will always come first.'
