Bessemer's converter complete

February 26th, 1204 AD

I didn't put much hope, but somehow Jegei had found a coal mine and a pig iron mine last week. I don't know how lucky Jegei is but finding two mines within a week is a surprisingly lucky matter.

I wouldn't be shocked If Jegei won the super award from a lotto in the modern times.

Anyway, from there onwards, six hundred people from the various tribes started to mine coal and pig iron under my command.

For me, naturally it was much easier to create something I have already created in the past. At Temuujin's camp, it took me one month to create a Bessemer's converter. But this time, it took only a week for me to create the furnace. I must accept the fact that my own Bessemer converter I made this time is comparatively smaller than the previous one, but it has wheels underneath it. It has become a portable steel converter which we can transport to lake Baikal in the future.

Meanwhile Jegei and some blacksmiths are working at the pear furnace, I am currently sitting atop a hill, looking at my settlement. Before I travelled through time and came to the middle ages, I never thought about becoming a leader of a settlement. Now, two thousand people's destiny is on my shoulder. Thinking about this responsibility, I feel terrified for the fact that we are not yet ready. So we must become stronger in order to survive.

My enemy is Genkhis Khan. A conqueror, who took over half of the Eurasia in a mere two decades. If I belittle him and underestimate, then that would be my gravest mistake.

Seeing the children who are studying literature from Bator the Buryat settlement leader with curiousity and innocent looks, I am determined to protect them whatever it takes.

I clenched my first an bit my teeth.

"My lord, My Lord! The pear furnace is ready!" Jegei's voice echoed through the hill.

I stood up and smiled with a sense of accomplishment. With a Bessemer's converter creating steel and making weapons is no more a dream for us.

Jegei, Zorigt and the various small tribe leaders accompanied me to Bessemer converter that is located inside a wooden fence workshop.

The various small tribe leaders are gossiping about the pear furnace. The main topic is whether it can really produce steel.

I took my position in front of the pear furnace and made an announcement.

"My dear tribe leaders. Today is a great day. From today onwards, our Tengeriin uls would be able to produce steel as much as we want." I said with enthusisiasm and nodded to Jegei.

Some blacksmiths who work for us opened the mouth of the furnace as molten steel started to pour out.

'Whoa!' the various tribe leaders exclaimed with awe. For some of the small tribe leaders, it is the first time for them seeing molten steel.

When the molten steel started to pour out, the blacksmiths hurriedly started to work continuously as they hit the molten steel by hammers. As the molten steel was hit by the blacksmiths, it started to form the shape of a sword.

Galdan the Khongirat settlement leader saw the process of creating a sword with serious gaze, without blinking his eyes. Galdan used to be a renowned blacksmith among the small settlement tribesmen.

He used to create many swords with his own hands. However due to the quality of the metal he was using, his produced swords never got the strength he desired.

"Dang!"

"Dang!"

"Dang!" the sound of hammers hitting the unfinished sword started to echo through the workshop.

Not a long while after, the chief blacksmith took the unfinished sword and put it in the cold water to refine the impurities.

"Shhhhhhhhhhh~" the hot sword sizzled in the cold water as steam rising in the air.

Just when the sword is cooled down, the blacksmiths made a wooden handle for the blade and connected it to the sword. After the sword is sharpened, the sword was presented to Dorj.

"My lord.!" the chief blacksmith kneeled down to Dorj as he presented the sword to Dorj with respect.

The chief blacksmith has the intuition that the current sword that he is holding is the best sword he ever produced. It is his intuition as a blacksmith with several decades of experience. But he also has the intuition that in the future he would produce more greater swords because of the pear furnace that was invented by lord Dorj.

Dorj grabbed the hilt of the freshy produced sword and raised his hand high above his head. Everyone tilted their heads upwards to have a better sight of the sword.

"A steel sword! It is truly a steel sword!" acclaimed a small settlement leader called Tushig.

Most of the small settlement leaders shouted with joy and laughed out loud.

However among them, Khongirat small tribe's leader Galdan's eyes were bloodshot. He couldn't believe in his eyes that steel could be produced so easily. For decades he tried to make steel but to no avail he couldn't find the perfect ratio of the input materials. But howcome could the pear furnace make steel this easily. If this is truly a steel sword, then his past experiments would become a joke.

Galdan the Khongirat leader rushed to the front and bowed to Dorj as he inquired.

"My lord, can I test the strength of the sword? If it is truly a steel sword as you have claimed, then it would not break down if i hit the anvil" said Galdan with rush and agitation.

"How presumtious, this is a steel sword. Yet you don't believe our lord's words?" said Zorigt with anger.

Dorj raised his hand for Zorigt to be quiet.

"Zorigt, let him be. It is natural for him to not trust me yet. Let him test the strength of this sword." said Dorj and handed the steel sword to Galdan by the hilt.

Galdan grabbed the sword as he observed the sword with his eyes.

'This must not be steel.' thought Galdan in his mind and he gathered all his strenght that he could muster and raised the sword in the air.

"CLAAAANG!" the sound of metallic collission echoed through the workshop.

'Drip!'

'Drip!'

Two droplets of blood fell on the ground. Galdan's perlicue between his thumb and index finger is a bit wounded due to the strong collision. However the steel sword made by the steel produced by the pear furnace is intact.

"Hooray!" the small settlement leaders celebrated this joyous milestone as they hugged themselves and jumped upwards.

On the other hand for Galdan, it is his defeat. Several decades of his attempts to create steel is a failure. But the messenger of Tenger has given them the furnace to create steel.

Galdan bowed down to Dorj and lowered his head. From his eyes droplets of tears fell down to the ground.

"Your holiness. I pledge my loyalty to you" said Galdan with wide range of emotion.

Dorj observed Galdan's reaction with surprise. He had never seen him so moved before. Galdan seemed almost awestruck by the fact that the steel sword had remained unbroken despite the impact. Dorj couldn't help but wonder if Galdan was the type of person who needed to see things with his own eyes in order to believe them. It was a curious thought. But since there is someone who is pledging his loyalty to him, he needs to accept it.

"Galdan, you may get up. I accept your loyalty." said Dorj with satisfaction.

Galdan raised his head towards Dorj but remained kneeled on the ground.

"My lord, I used to be a blacksmith when I was young. But I have never created a steel sword before. After seeing the pear furnace creating steel in this short amount of time, my past passion to make great weapons is back. My lord, I would like to work at this workshop." said Galdan as he lowered his head again.

Dorj understood why he reacted this way. It is natural for people to have a passion of their own. Dorj created the pear furnace with not much thought other than creating weapons, but for other people it may be their goal of their life.

"Galdan, I approve your request. I appoint you as the chief of this workshop. From today, you must oversee the operations of this workshop and directly report to me.!" decreed Dorj.

"My lord. Your appointment gives me deep sense of gratitude and duty. I will repay your kindness with success and accomplishment!" bowed Galdan and stood up. When Galdan stood up, it was as if he was washed by the water of River Styx and become a new person.

Since Galdan was appointed as the chief of the workshop, Dorj entrusted Galdan for the production of the weapons and departed to his ger.

The gathered small settlement leaders dispersed towards their own gers as well.

"Aah!" fresh air. Dorj took a deep breath before he entered his ger and gazed to the stars across the sky.

"I wonder how Zuchi khankhuu is doing. I hope he has recovered since I have killed Tsagadai khankhuu." thought Dorj.
