Chapter 3

Hyun Na Bi was born into a rich family in the city where her father had moved to after starting his own business. Soon after she was born, the family had gone bankrupt and when Hyun Na Bi was 5 years old, they had moved back to the countryside since they had nothing else to go on with. While the entire family saw her as the bad luck of the family, her father adored her and her grandmother also treated her well. Her mother was from the city and from a well off family so it was difficult for her to live without all facilities in this village.

Not a single day passed by in Hyun Na Bi's life without her mother Cho Yeong Ja mentioning or rather cursing her that she was the cause of all this family's misfortune. Hyun Na Bi found it difficult to be at home due to this and she often went to her neighbors place and stayed in her house only when her father or grandmother was around. Hyun Na Bi did not know if it was from the shock of losing the company or if her father was sick originally, but from the day they had come here, her father had been sick. The family did farming and with her father being sick, he couldn't do much work and her grandmother (Father's mother) took care of most of the work. Hyun Na Bi's mother Cho Yeong Ja was not used to all this hard labor so she took care of the household.

Hyun Na Bi had an elder sister Hyun Dan Bi who was four years elder to her. Just like her mother, Hyun Dan Bi also hated her sister equally as she felt that Hyun Na Bi had taken away all of her fathers' love from her. Though Hyun Na Bi did not like Hyun Na Bi, Hyun Na Bi did not hate her sister.

When Hyun Dan Bi was eighteen she had gone to the city to study and that is when they heard the tragic news that she had died in an accident. Hyun Dan Bi's death affected the family hugely that her already sick father became bedridden. Soon after, her mother Cho Yeong Ja had gone to the city to find a job to earn money leaving Hyun Na Bi alone here with her father and grandmother. Her mother sent money every month and along with the vegetable they got from farming, the Hyun family lived with just enough resources.

Jin Yong lived in the same village as Hyun Na Bi and was next door neighbor to Hyun Na Bi. From childhood they were always together. Jin Yong had seen her happiness, sadness and they were almost inseparable from when they had met. Hyun Na Bi had moved to the village when she was four years old and from that day she had followed Jin Yong everywhere. Jin Yong was a year elder to Hyun Na Bi and Jin Yong was the 'Oppa' Hyun Na Bi relied on for everything. When her mother scolded her, or if she got into an argument with her mother or sister, Hyun Na Bi ran straight to Jin Yong's house to escape from them. Jin Yong lived with his grandmother and as far as Hyun Na Bi knew he was an orphan. Jin Yong loved her equally and took care of Hyun Na Bi at all times. Just like how Hyun Na Bi couldn't stay away from him, he too wanted Hyun Na Bi by his side always. Hyun Na Bi was his junior in school. Jin Yong was quite popular in school but his eyes were only on Hyun Na Bi.

Hyun Na Bi did not have an aim in her life regarding her career or anything else, all she wanted was to marry Jin Yong and live with him happily forever.

Hyun Na Bi had planned her entire life around Jin Yong and since he was equally into her, it did not feel like she was building castles in air. Jin Yong had completed his school and he was into architecture and wanted to pursue a career in that. Hyun Na Bi was a bit weak in studies and she was satisfied as long as she passed her exams. Completing her school education was a huge milestone for her so she did not think about going to college.

Even with everything going on in her life Hyun Na Bi was happy and with Jin Yong by her side she couldn't ask for anything more. She had bawled her eyes out when Jin Yong informed her that he had been accepted into university and would be leaving her soon. But he assured her that he would take her with him after she completed her schooling and this was some consolation o Hyun Na Bi. At last Jin Yong completed his school education and in the graduation ceremony he kissed her for the first time. She was the happiest person on the world that day and she thought that nothing could ruin that day.

Hyun Na Bi was wrong, everything changed that day. She could clearly remember that day. When they returned home, Hyun Na Bi saw an expensive car parked in front of Jin Yong's house. Jin Yong sent her home and he entered his house alone. After some time, Hyun Na Bi saw a woman in expensive clothes leave the house with Jin Yong following her. Before leaving the house his eyes searched for her and when he saw her looking at him from the window he waved goodbye and left.

Jin Yong left just like that, he had not contacted her once after that and Hyun Na Bi waited and waited but he never returned. The man who was with her for thirteen years was gone just like that. Jin Yong's grandmother had died a week after he let but Jin Yong hadn't come even to her funeral. Hyun Na Bi waited and waited but Jin Yong did not come back. She wasted her senior year and it took one more year for her to graduate.

A year passed and Hyun Na Bi completed her school. She wasn't a bright student and it was Jin Yong who had helped her study all these years. Now with Jin Yong gone, she found it difficult to even the pass the exams and somehow completed her schooling. Hyun Na Bi said that she preparing to go to college but working three part time jobs served as the perfect excuse for her to not study.

Hyun Na Bi had tried to find out something, anything about Jin Yong but there was nothing. The day after Jin Yong's grandmother died, the house had been emptied completely and not even a single sheet of paper was left behind. As per her father's wish, Hyun Na Bi had written the college entrance examination but she failed miserably. Hyun Na Bi felt totally lost. She had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Just when Hyun Na Bi thought that life couldn't get any worse her father had passed away. She was completely broken.
