The loot popped up and we rolled on the stuff we wanted. Tide jumped for joy at another Flame Core, and the wand, although he has no flame spells. I was happy with the amulet and equipped it. I figured the bow would fetch a decent price in the auction so I was pleased with it as well.

The sound of grinding gears could be heard coming from the walls and below us. A pedestal rose from the center of the room, while simultaneously a door opened on the wall beside us that revealed a stairwell.

The pedestal had the large imprint of a rune on its surface and had smaller runes upon its side. Tide was immediately obsessed with it. He began to pull various items from his inventory and mutter to himself like a madman.

I noticed that the smaller runes on the side were the same ones as the first room we were in. M-E-T-A.

Once again this strange reference to Meta. Which somehow involves my parents.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by Tide and his exclamations, "It's a spell! A complicated one at that! I'm so glad I put so much time into trade skills! "

He pulled out a scroll and began to trace the rune.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"What does it look like. I'm creating a scroll! This is a hieroglyph! A magical relic that with the right magical paper can be used to make scrolls! "

"That's cool, what's the spell? "

"That's the best part! I have no idea! I have memorized every rune that has been discovered yet and this one is new! "

"Shouldn't you be less excited? You don't even know what it is?"

"Ahh, the quest for knowledge is all I desire, Thorn. It is not the destination, but the journey itself! ", he replied with enthusiasm.

" Fair enough. What type of magic is it?"

"That's strange, it doesn't say. Let me concentrate for a minute."

I backed off for a few minutes and he diligently churned out scrolls. He had made up ten when the pedestal began to drop back into the floor and disappear.

"Dammit why?!", he complained as he clawed at the floor and searched for a secret button.

" It's probably on a timer so you can only copy it so many times. We are lucky you can create scrolls. Does it say the name of the spell?"

Tide stopped crawling on the ground, stood up and dusted himself off, "I guess your right, I was just hoping to get massively richer overnight. The spell is called transmute element. "

"I've never heard of it." I said while stroking my chin thoughtfully, "we should head through that door before it closes too.

As though in response to my words, we heard the grinding of gears in the walls. We both rushed through the door, barely making it before it closed shut behind us.

We were in another circular stairwell that led down. We followed the stairs and it led to a stone corridor with etched designs cut into the walls. The design depicted the air element. So it was not surprising to find a wind elemental down the hall.

Crap! My frost damage will do little to nothing against these guys!

"What do you think, Tide?"

He thought for a good minute before responding, "Well, Fire damage will be best. My golem can tank and do damage and you could use that fire bow if you want?"

I nodded, "That's not a bad plan, but what about the scroll? Doesn't transmute mean change or alter. Maybe we can change the elemental to a fire type?"

"Eureka!" He exclaimed while pulling out the transmute element scroll and a soulstone. "Let's try it out! "

He aimed the scroll towards the elemental and said,"Fire!" as he touched the stone to the scroll. The complex rune lit up and the spell activated, but it did not do what we expected.

The spell didn't accept the elemental as a target and moved to the next available target, which was my weapon, frostweaver. The weapon lit on fire and no longer had a blue aura.

Ding!

Player Tidalus Maximus has used the spell transmute element on frostweaver! Element permanently changed from ice to fire.

"What the..", we both exclaimed in unison.
