Chapter 25: A Fortune Teller and a Hard Choice

Zadkiel wandered. He wasn’t welcome in Heaven any longer and he was different from most other Fallen even if he could find some, driven by love rather than lust or some other deadly sin. He made the humans uncomfortable, as if they knew by instinct that he was a very foreign entity no matter how good his veil.

“Where will you go?” The Witnesses had asked as they saw him off from the little castle. He hadn’t had an answer for them.

So Zadkiel wandered.

He was just reaching a main thoroughfare when there was a high pitched whine and everyone around him froze, even the birds mid flight.

“Brother,” Gabriel said from the alley nearby and Zadkiel turned to find him there unveiled. There was no whine to his voice when they reached Celestial ears, it sounded soft and melodic and there was something divinely beautiful about even just that one word, “you have left her behind?”

“Yes,” Zadkiel nodded solemnly. Gabriel rested many hands on his shoulders in reassurance.
