I was laying down in my rather plain apartment that was allotted to me as a new mage without any real connections or anything. And as I was laying on the admittedly nice bed, I was training...
See I was a Gojo with my blood and Six Eyes, just because I didn't have cursed energy, that didn't change the fact that I was a Gojo, that just meant there was a divergence in what type of wooby magical energy I was using.
I raised a hand above my face and my lips twitched as the air above my hand air vibrated slightly as I muttered. "No wonder Gojo Satoru was such an arrogant shit."
In less than five hours of laying down comfortably in bed, I had basically found the Limitless technique which was in my body and soul like an imprinted technique, and then damn near mastered the technique using my awakened Six Eyes that could see any mistake I made in the control of my magical energy.
Blinking I blew out some air as I considered my future and after a bit I realized I that if I wanted to get the power to survive and thrive here in this slightly veiled death world. I needed both actual power and connections to others of power.
"Alright, I got Limitless for defense even if I haven't gotten to test making Blue or other spatial attacks I am good for defense... So I need to go to the library, gain some more offensive spells and master Reinforcement so I can throw hands with monsters." I finished outlining my future growth plan as I had Waver in my corner to help me get into the Spirit Evocation Department.
Which from there, I could find the ritual to properly summon a Servant which would hopefully be a good partner to help me grow to my full potential. Either way I sat up with a grunt with my hand going to my head to scratch it and my lips twitched feeling my silver hair that reminded me of how my body was changed to having the Gojo bloodline.
Making my way from my apartment I followed the map I was given of the public areas of the Clock Tower where people weren't allowed to duel, kill one another or otherwise capture someone there for horrible experimentation. I headed over to the library and upon reaching the massive library my face went flat as the library itself was a utterly fucking massive round tower that went way above head, and sunk into darkness with countless floors going down as well with each floor being a large round circle with dozens of bookcases that held thousands of books.
Walking to one of the library workers I asked them the obvious question. "Hello, I was curious as to how the Library is sorted? I am new."
The mousey-looking older librarian blinked at being addressed and she smiled softly as she responded softly. "The library follows the Fibonacci Sequence so it currently has two hundred and thirty-three floors with each floor having knowledge gained from a certain period of history and location. Each floor then has its contents sorted out by general information, historic information on supernatural events, and then more esoteric studies on the side."
And even when I asked where I could spell the librarian lost that soft smile and she told me bluntly. "The library has plenty of spell work and rituals... But you need to find those spells in the books and memoirs the Clock Tower has collected in those books. And if you damage or steal books, Enforcers will be sent after you."
I was rather annoyed at having to actually sift through countless books to get any decent magic but the Clock Tower was an institution with the job of preserving mankind and magic itself not hand-holding and teaching its students so easily.
After a bit of sifting through the information available, I decided that the best thing for me to do was to go straight for modern history as I wasn't going to be sifting through old diaries and memoirs for weeks to pick out some spells that may or may not work at all... To say nothing of having to translate every damned thing I was trying to read.
Getting some books on the study of Elementalism and the effects of Elements and a person's origins I found a good book that had a list of simple spell cantrips that followed the five-fold elemental path in Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether. With Ether being the primordial element of mystery or magical energy itself.
So with that knowledge, I wrote down in a notebook the ritual to find out my Element, Origin, and of course the simple spells that the writer said were a decent way to test people who didn't have elements and an origin that didn't fit into the classic five elements. As, no matter even if I had an outlier element like space or something weird like Limitless, that would still tie into the five main elements.
Closing my notebook after finishing taking all my notes I tilted my head to the side and my slightly glowing blue eyes stared outwards and I said bluntly finally addressing the presence I thought was a student taking their own notes but hidden under some veil. "May I help you?"
Across from my notetaking table the air shimmered as a man with striking red hair and wearing a well-fitting suit looked at me with some interest and more particularly at my covered eyes. "Hoh, I thought you honestly couldn't sense me. So you were just being rude I see." He finished in a slightly jesting tone.
But instead, I said bluntly. "This is a library and I was working. Not trying to make conversation with someone who walked with some form of invisibility and took a seat to do their own work in silence. Now Lord Bram Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri, it is an honor to meet you." I greeted the lord who was the successor in charge of the Spirit Evocation Department of the Clock Tower.
The lord tilted his head to the side and made a noise of thought and after a moment he smiled and said. "Alright. I like you, your handsome enough to join my Department, here is your pass."
My mind blanked out as he dropped a dark golden coin that I could see had a piece of something like a blank soul or something imprinted upon it atop my notebook and I couldn't help but ask. "Wait... That's it?"
Bram Nuada chuckled and then said with zero shame. "Young man. The Spiritual Evocation Department is all about summoning and controlling spiritual things... Which ties into ghosts and touches upon Necromancy. Most the students professors, and elders in the faction are twisted things that touched upon things they weren't ready for at all at the time if they were lucky to survive at all..."
My face was stiff as the successor for the department stood up with a wide smile as he said plainly. "With a face like that, I bet you have actual charm magecraft and can help bring in some new blood haha!"
And with that, the lord put back on his stealth field and left me sitting there wondering how sane these people were and then it hit me. 'Wait... They are all insane!'
I got up and after making sure the coin wasn't cursed or something I took it with a grunt as I knew Waver had helped me get into the department so I wasn't going to squander his help in getting the literal Lord of the Department into bring me in.
