As I walked towards the café, my head facing the earth and the California breeze blowing my hair, I opened the door lightly.
There he was, sitting amongst his peers, his head bowed down on the table as he avoided conversations with them. He raised his head slowly letting his perfect structured face sitting well with his left ear piercing without a smile on his face. I felt his eyes on me as I walked towards the attendant.
"Hi, what can I get you?" The attendant asked. "Oh hi! I would like a cup of hot cocoa" I responded. "With?" The attendant questioned. "Nothing, just hot cocoa" I replied. "Alright, coming right up" the attendant responded before turning to get my request.
A text popped on my screen, "have fun honey!" A text from mom, I smiled. "Here you go" the attendant handed me my cup of hot cocoa, "thanks" I replied. "Freshman?" The attendant asked. "Yeah" I replied with a smile on my face, "good luck" the attendant responded.
I walked towards a table, still feeling awkward that this was my first day at UCLA. "Who have you been staring at? Bro!?" An unfamiliar voice said. "No one" another voice replied. The unfamiliar person stood up from his seat and walked towards my table. "Hi, I'm August" he said. I raised my head to face him after taking a sip of my hot cocoa. "Stella" I replied. "You seem nice, freshman?" He asked. "Yeah, why does everyone keep asking me that".
Not everyone, I mean it was just the attendant.
"Well, you look somehow scattered so I assumed you're new here" he said smiling down at me.
I laughed.
"August, let's go" a voice said. "I'm coming bro" he replied. "So I'll see you around?" He asked me. "Yeah sure, I'll see you around" I replied.
August walked towards his friends, I stared at them as they were walking by. Surprisingly, I felt that same eye on me, I looked back at him.
Damn he was gorgeous.
He looked away, walking away from the café with his hands in the pocket of his hoodie. I immediately snapped out of the fantasy I was about to enter, drank my hot cocoa as I noticed that I had a class at the moment.
"Shit" I uttered, leaving a dollar bill on the table and running towards the main campus.
"I suppose you're new to campus?" A blonde girl said. "Yeah I am, is this English 100?" I asked. "Nope, English 100 is down that hallway" she replied, pointing towards the direction.
"Thanks" I said, walking away. "Nice to meet you" she uttered, I turned back to respond when I saw him. "You look good today Axel" the blonde girl said to him, "leave the way Clara, I need to go in" he replied. "Nice to meet you too" I yelled, walking towards my class.
Axel? That was his name? Incredible.
Classes began. I was exhausted already and this was just my first day.
2:34pm
My classes were over. I headed for my dorm. Chattering everywhere in the hallway, people moving in, people everywhere.
I opened the door of my room, dropped my bag and things on my bed and exhaled heavily. I heard a knock on the door, got up immediately to answer it. "You!" I spoke out in shock. "Hey you" a familiar voice said. "Hi! You're my roommate?" I asked. "Seems like it, can I come in?" She requested.
She walked into the room. "Clara" she uttered.
I already knew that.
"I'm Stella" I replied, "you need help?" I continued. "Nah, I'll pack later, right now, I have where I have to be" she responded. "Alright" I said. She dropped her things on her bed and walked towards me, "if you need help with anything, make sure you come to me, instantly" she uttered. I smiled. "You're not a freshman" I said. "This is my second year" she replied. "Oh" I said in amusement. "You wanna come with me? Its the first day in this year, I and some couple of people are hanging out" she uttered.
"Like a party?" I asked. "No, not a party, its more like a hangout" she replied. "Okay, I'll come with you" I said. "Great, I'll see you at 7" she replied leaving the room with a big smile on her face.
I already made a friend. Well she's more of a roommate but still, I know we would eventually become good friends.
I started unpacking the rest of my things, then I stumbled upon some magazines my mom kept inside my bag. I took one of them, sat on my bed and started watching it before my phone began ringing. A call from Stacia.
Stacia was my high school best friend, although she had to go abroad to study while I stayed here in California.
"Hey!!!" Stacia yelled from her side of the phone. "Stacia!" I exclaimed. "What's up? Give me the deeds, what's going on down there?" She asked. "Nothing is going on Stacia" I replied. "For real?! Girl, don't take your boring ass to college, I told you those exact words when we graduated but you still did it, don't you have friends already?" She uttered.
Friends? I had Clara didn't I?
"I don't have friends yet, remember I just started, its barely 48 hours since I got here" I responded.
"48 hours, yen yen yen" she said mockingly. "By the way, I'm not like you, I already made some friends, even seniors" she continued.
"Seniors? Like actual Fina year students? Or?" I questioned.
"Yes dumb ass, there are a lot of cute boys here, I wish you were here Stella, you'd really like it here" she said. "Me? Like it there? In Harvard? Come on Stacia, I can't be in Harvard" I replied. "Its not like you can't afford it" she responded.
"Still doesn't mean anything, I'm not coming, I think I'll really like it here" I replied. "Well if you see any cute boy, let me know, I've got to go, remember, don't be boring!" She uttered.
"Yes ma'am" I said laughing while cutting the line.
I laid on my bed over thinking about different irrelevant things as time went by too fast.
"Stella!" Clara yelled as she brought me out of my imaginations and trance. "Its almost 7, why aren't you dressed up?" She continued.
"Sorry, I was busy" I replied.
Busy? Why do I keep lying?
"Well we've got to go alright, tons of freshmen are going to be there, in case you're into freshmen" she said while packing and unpacking her things.
"I'm not into freshmen" I laughed.
"So you're into older guys then? Or? She questioned as she changed her outfit. "I'm not into older guys, well I don't know" I replied.
"But you've never had a boyfriend before" she said. "Yeah, a few, I'm not really a relationship kind of person though, it doesn't end too well for me" I replied.
"Not everyone is good at relationships, its cool" she said, applying some lipstick while I smiled at her while dressing up.
This felt like a movie.
I'm definitely in a movie.
