"Another....when...came?", Daren was hearing voices while his head hurt. He kept his eyes shut trying to get to terms with how nauseous and tired he felt. He could still hear voices but he chose to focus on himself instead of the incoherent voices. Anyways, it did not make sense.
He tried to sit up while placing his hand on the ground and feeling the hard ground. Daren did not think as to why the ground was hard at that moment. All he wanted was for nausea to go away. He could not find anything to lean onto and so Daren laid back down giving up on this attempt to re-orient himself. He thought back to what happened before he lost consciousness.
All he could remember was trying to step onto an escalator when he slipped and rolled down the escalator. He remembered people surrounding him and just looking at him while he was bleeding. Yes, he could feel something trickling down his head and soaking into his clothes. It sure as hell did not feel like water because his head was hurting too. Daren knew falling asleep meant he could die. Then again, he also wanted to sleep. After wrestling with these thoughts while waiting for someone to save him or at least patch him up he gave up. Sleeping felt better and easier and that is what Daren did. He slept.
Thinking back on everything that happened, Daren's eyes shot open and his hand went up to his head feeling for any wetness on the back of his head. His soft hair and scalp were all he felt. Now that he opened his eyes, he could see the ceiling and it was not what he was expecting. "Why the hell is the ceiling black?!!!! Where am I?!! F***!!" he got up while fighting his nausea and stood up still clutching onto his head.
He looked around and what he saw terrified him. He saw three men, each about 6ft tall, well built, and wearing clothes that you would normally not see people wear. It seemed like a sleeveless maroon-colored jacket under which they wore a white linen shirt, beige pants, some slip-on shoes, and a sword?
He rubbed his eyes to see again and the swords were still there hanging around each man's waist. "Why the f*** do these weirdos have swords hanging around their damn waists?!?!?!?" He kept staring at them while assessing them. One of the three had brown hair and brown eyes, and the other two sported black hair and black eyes.
No way would three men wearing weird clothes and sporting swords are sane. With all these thoughts, Daren instinctively got into a defensive position.
Seeing how the person was getting defensive, the brown-haired man took his sword from his sword keeping it sheathed, he laid it down on the ground, lifted his hands in the hair, and called out. "Hello, welcome to "earth"! We mean you no harm and we are here to help you" and then he waited for the person to respond.
Daren looked at the man and saw how he kept his sword down and greeted himself although the greeting was odd. "Where am I? Who are you all?! Have I been kidnapped?"
The brown-haired man looked at him and said, "My name is Garter. The similar-looking people next to me are Kevin and Kyle. They are twins and I'm their elder brother. We are siblings if you still did not understand. As for where you are, you are on earth. But not your earth. This earth is a bit different from yours. The geography is a bit different and how people live here is worlds apart, literally, from how you used to live. The reason for the difference is that this earth is filled with mana and "other-worldly energies" as you folk say it. The world you are in is called Tellus. Yes, it is Latin. No, Latin is not specific to only your earth. That is just you being vain. Also, you are not kidnapped. You were dropped, thrown, flung, or transported from your world to ours. So, once again, welcome to Tellus. Tellus is filled with magic, ki, and other energies unlike your wasteland". Saying all of this, garter smirked at Daren and stopped talking, waiting for a response.
Daren kept staring at Garter listening to what he was saying and not understanding anything. He kept trying to make sense of all the information thrown at him and all he could blurt out was, "I transmigrated to earth?". After saying this, his knees gave out and he fell on his bum.
He kept staring at everyone when Kevin or Kyle spoke out, "I'm Kevin. Listen, our brother threw a lot of information at you and I can see that you are having a hard time understanding it but you need to catch on quickly or you will end up dead pretty soon. Also, let me tell you what you need to understand immediately.
1. You are not on your earth. You have been transmigrated to another planet far away from your earth and the planet is called Tellus. You seem to vaguely get this point.
2. Earth and Tellus are different in the sense that we have a special energy here that you have only heard of in stories.
3. You have another 5 minutes before your clothes get eaten up by mana and as such, change quickly into these clothes and shoes."
Saying this, the twin threw a set of clothes and waited for Daren to change. Not understanding what was happening but realizing that he did not want to be naked in front of three men he asked the three to turn around while he got up somehow and changed.
The clothes were simple. A white linen shirt and beige pants. It went well with his brown hair and brown eyes. The pants were hanging at his ankles. Daren was 5'8ft tall and he looked like a generic white person in his 20's. He had a thin frame and the shirt was hanging on his shoulders. The slip-on fit him well but he realized they were not as comfortable as the ones on earth.
After changing he realized that the clothes he was previously wearing were from before the accident. Now that he calmed down a bit, he started to have questions about the situation. He looked at Kevin and asked, "How did I end up here, in Tellus?"
Garter instead answered, "We are still not sure how earthlings end up on our planet but it follows a trend. You die in an unfortunate accident on your planet and end up on these migration portals that you are standing on. Earthlings and Tellurians are both trying to understand why this happens but researchers have not been able to find anything.
As for the portals, these have been in place for longer than humanity has been around. We do not know about the material or the meaning of the layout. For a long time, humanity observed the portals until the first earthling appeared. Sometime later, another earthling appeared on another one of these portals. After a period of time, this trend kept repeating.
That is when research into these portals began. Earthlings and Tellurians got along over the course of time. Earthlings are an integral part of Tellurian society now. Towns were built around these portals so as to help manage earthlings who would migrate to Tellus. These towns are again called migrator towns. Well, I hope this information should satisfy most of the questions you are having at the moment unless you blanked out like before", saying this Garter sneered at Daren.
Daren could feel that Garter did not like him for some reason while the other two were fine with him but he chose to not think about it now. They gave him clothes and explained what situation he was in. He could find out later why that man did not like him. For now, he still had questions. He asked, "What about the earthlings that have traveled here? How many are there and how does this mana make anything different?"
Kevin could see that his elder brother was getting impatient with the man's questions. He knew why but this was his job and his brother's job too. They could not afford to get thrown out. He put his hand on his brother's arm and murmured, "Brother, let me handle this. Why don't you go out and get some fresh air?" Garter looked back and nodded. He picked up his sword, looked at Daren one last time and Daren could see some anger in his eyes. He wondered what he did for the person to be angry at him.
Garter opened the wooden door of the room and walked out while he was wondering about the angry man. Kevin snapped his fingers to bring back Daren to reality and spoke, "Earthlings have a community of their own. They also have a kingdom of their own which is right beside the kingdom you are currently in. You will be filled in on these details later on.
Considering that you have a kingdom to go to, you can guess that there are a lot of earthlings in our world. The population numbers are somewhere between 10 million to 12 million.
As for what mana does is that you can cultivate it and increase the strength of your body, mind, and soul. Martial arts, magic, shamanism etc are products of mana. Again, you will learn about all of this further. Just know that living in Tellus is vastly different from living on Earth as you will see further". Without giving a chance for Daren to speak, Kevin said, "Now we need to record how you died, what is your mana talent like and register you into a school."
Daren listened intently still overwhelmed with everything happening and also doubting how easily he is starting to accept what happened. He saw Kyle bring something covered with a black cloth and heard Kevin say with a smile on his face, "Now let us see if we need to kill you or not."
Hi everyone! This is my first time writing something this huge. There will be inevitable grammatical mistakes as you keep reading. I'll correct them in further edits.
I hope the set-up is something that everyone will find intriguing and further chapters will be more interesting than the first.
Thank you, readers!
