The Awakening Ceremony (3)

"Nice to meet you, I am Sylvia Zor-El. You are the boy with the white lightning. Mom told me to make friends with you," said Sylvia.

"Now that is how an actual kid behaves," Ryuk commented.

"You can call me Ray. Nice to meet you as well," I said, ignoring Ryuk. "This is my friend Wally, and this is John," I pointed at my shoulder and then beside me. Before you ask me why I always carry Wally wherever I go, I will say this. This world is a lot more chaotic than Earth. There are metahumans who have numerous abilities, vampires who you can't kill by any normal means, werewolves who can crush you in a second, and ALIENS! Now you can do the math. Plus, no one can be wary of a cute little robot, right? I can probably brush it off as a toy for kids.

"Is that a pet?" asked Sylvia, pointing at Wally.

"A friend, although he can't talk yet. I will fix that soon enough," I said. 

"Can I pet it?" she asked.

"Sure..." I squinted my eyes. Kids don't like to hear no as an answer. I can't be mean to a kid. Control yourself, Ray. It is a sacrifice for the greater good. I am so sorry, Wally, but I can't make an enemy out of a Kryptonian. "Please be careful with him. He is very fragile."

I slowly passed Wally to her, watching closely to make sure she didn't break him. The strength of Kryptonian is something that scares me very much. 

"You know you are adapting better than I thought you would around kids," said Ryuk.

'I have been inside a kid's body for five whole years. Don't you think I can adapt perfectly with all this time? I still hate kids, though,' Kids are super annoying, and you can't change my mind.

I got back Wally, but... at the cost of an arm. The arm wasn't mine. It was Wally's... I hate kids so much.

Mellisa and Thomas ate almost all the food that they had. I knew that they were foodies, but not to such an extent. Later, Nolan had to bring in more food for the guests because they ate everything... It was embarrassing for us.

The competition wasn't entertaining at all. It included the races among speedsters, elemental ability users competing for the range advantage and their intangible states, and the other races showcasing their abilities. It was a pity that the Major families don't participate in the competition. Since they already have guaranteed spots.

For those wondering why they can use their abilities just after awakening them. The reason is simple. It's because the awakening stone, made up of pure Dark Matter, helps metahumans awaken their dormant abilities in their bloodline and gives them ten per cent mastery over it from the start. I guess they are way above my level, for now, that is.

Elemental ability users have the power to control any single type of element for combat or daily life purposes. The user can also transform their entire body into that element for a limited time. However, the intangible state can easily be countered by an energy or an energized attack.

Well, it ended rather quickly. We went back to our home in Central City. Did I forget to mention that Paragon is in Metropolis? I think I did. 

"I didn't notice earlier, but what happened to Wally?" asked Thomas.

"A kid happened, a Kryptonian kid," I answered.

"... I know now why you don't like to be around kids," Thomas shook his head.

"If you had the same level of intelligence as a kid of your age, young master, then you would find it much easier to be around them," Alfred added.

"I am good the way I am. I don't want my intelligence to decrease," I said.

"Yeah, if you had a low IQ, this alternative reality of the novel would be much more difficult for you to adapt to, increasing the chances of your death percentage," Ryuk commented. "I would honestly like to see that."

'You know what else might be interesting? Me, dying early in the novel.' I said in my head.

We all had our dinner and went back to bed early. 

"Should I check on the future me? I don't even know what to call him. It's so weird," I said, lying on the bed.

"Why did he even come here? According to the original story, no one close to you should die in this period unless you mess up the timeline or an unexpected variable appears," said Ryuk. 'I didn't even feel his connection to the future me. Is it because he time travelled?'

Both of us wanted to know so many things. However, none of us could guess the answers.

"You killed a professor at Paragon?!" I screamed at my Future self or doppelganger.

"Calm down, and hear me out. I  needed a disguise, and so I killed Professor Holborn. He looks similar to me, and because of his nerdy persona, he is a loner. No one will suspect anything. He was about to join the academy, so no one knew about him. As for family... they are all dead. He did have some friends in middle school. I can go take care of them," Ray casually answered. To him, the lives of others meant nothing. He was a total menace, way worse than me.

"Wait! Before you kill his friends, let us think about it! We don't have to kill them. We can use them. If any time in the near future, your identity is at risk, we can use some backup plan. You said that he has some friends from middle school, right? We can make them believe that after such a long time, Professor Holborn has completely changed and become a better person, which is you in disguise. If they get fooled by us, then we can use them in the future or else just kill them," I explained my plan.

"That works as well," he replied.

I sighed. 'I need to figure out a way to stop this killing machine.' I thought.
