Struggle For Trost(4)

The fight continued to unfold between Eren and the armored titan.

Unbeknownst to him from far, it was being watched by many soldiers on the walls.

With such a large commotion caused by the sound of buildings being destroyed, it was bound to attract attention.

This was partly also due to the fact that the armored titan's position was not too far from the inner walls.

The rear squad was wiped out by Reiner and he was well on his way to take out the inner gates before he encountered Eren.

Armin was filled with worry as he helplessly continued to observe the clash in front of him.

There was no way for him to jump in, his presence would only distract Eren and end up being a burden. He'd rather die than become one.

"Eren's using too much gas … if he doesn't end the fight soon …" He felt his heart started to sink, as a strong sense of foreboding came over him.

Clasping his hands over his head, Armin was now racking his brains desperately to find a way to help Eren end the fight quickly. How could he just watch his best friend die before his very eyes?

While he was engrossed in trying to find a solution to the situation before him, the other soldiers were mesmerized by the strength and remarkable speed Eren was displaying.

"Amazing!" among the garrison soldiers, Christa remarked, with a hint of worship and admiration in her eyes.

"Yea. To hold his own against it for so long. I can see now why he was able to defeat almost the entire aberrant horde by himself." Ymir nodded in agreement before glancing around.

"Where's Annie and the rest?"

"I think she was with some of the cadets, they were sent on a mission to assist the civilians to evacuate safely, so they shouldn't be too far from the inner gate." Christa answered, her eyes still glued on the battle unfolding at hand.

Due to the missing rearguard, the manpower under Squad Leader Darius's command was severely stretched and understaffed.

He had requested for any spare support to be sent to him.

Naturally, most of the newly graduated cadets were deployed to assist him.

Christa , Ymir, and Armin however were amongst the lucky few cadets that were assigned to garrison wall duty, safe atop the inner walls of Trost.

"Look, what's Eren doing?" Another garrison soldier exclaimed, they could see a group of titans now behind Eren as he headed towards the armored titan.

Reiner was really furious, a vein had popped up in his neck as he gnashed his teeth. He couldn't believe that a wretched devil could fight on equal ground with him for so long.

His face burned with humiliation at the thought of how disgraceful it was.

The fight was proving a lot tougher than he expected, but he was still confident of his victory.

No human could defeat his armored titan. The pathetic outdated weapons of these backwards Eldians devils could never hope to pierce his mighty armor. Hah.

Upon thinking that, he calmed down a little, it lifted his mood as the rage that swept over him initially subsided.

Right now, he had just finished regenerating his eyes and was about to continue his attack when he noticed multiple titans chasing a figure that was coming in his direction.

That guy. He actually lured titans over to attack him. Now he wouldn't be able to focus on him anymore.

How did he even get the idea in the first place?

"Once the titans expose a gap in your armor. That'll be my chance". Eren watched as the titans he lured over began to fight with the armored titan.

He had been thinking about how it was weird that when he was fighting the armored titan, there were almost no other titans around in the vicinity.

Except for their corpses. It was almost as if someone intentionally killed them.

From there he got the idea that the armored titan might have been the one who did it, it was probably different and not friendly with the other titans.

He would use the titans against him.

Even then, it was still a gamble, he didn't know if the normal titans would be able to cause any significant damage to the armored titan.

He could only hope.

He could see the armor on the titan slowly showing gaps. Its red titan flesh visible beneath it.

Clearly, it worked!

"My Chance! " Eren's eyes widened as his face lit up, taking off immediately, he aimed for the wrist.

The armored titan continued to struggle and punch against the titans who were biting against him - resulting in more parts of his body being exposed as numerous cracks began to show up .

It was at this moment, however ...

KA KA KA

The sound of something spluttering could be heard.

Just as Eren was about to get close.

He stopped in mid-air.

His body slowly started to fall downwards, into the titan melee breaking out on the ground.

He had finally run out of gas.

His movements actually consumed a lot of gas all this while, and now that he had run out of it, the price would be fatal.

"EREN!" Armin, who was watching the melee from afar on the walls, screamed as he took off in his best friend's direction.

"NO! ERENN!!! " Mikasa cried in despair as she pushed herself to her maximum speed.

She had finished clearing out the titans in her area before being attracted over by the commotion here - Only to be greeted by a horrifying scene of Eren slowly falling into a horde of titans when she arrived.

It felt like a knife to her heart, she could feel sadness tearing at her chest as her heart refused to come to terms with what her brain was telling her - it was all too late.

There was no way they could save Eren in time.

Eren's eyes widened as terror overtook his face, continuing to descend closer and closer to the ground.

He could see the faces of all the titans and their hands coming towards him in all directions.

The fear that overtook him initially was now replaced with eyes that blazed with determination, he tightened his grip.

Unless he kept on fighting, he couldn't win! He would fight till the very end!

"Hexagonal ... Slash."

SWISH SWISH SWISH SWISH SWISH ...

SWISSSSHHHHH

A series of 40 blade strikes erupted in an instant around Eren. Followed by pieces of titan flesh flying everywhere.

All the gigantic hands that were approaching him were instantly chunked into tiny pieces.

A shower of red droplets rained over the area.

"PARGHHH." Eren coughed out a huge mouthful of blood before falling flat on the ground.

He knew he did not have the requirements to use the skill yet.

But that was the only thing left then. As the skill description warned him, it had done damage to his body.

Right after using it, he felt like the muscles in his arms had gone completely wobbly.

Pain could be felt everywhere in his body. He could no longer move.

The armored titan's hand was now coming towards him. He could see it from the corner of his eye.

Was it truly the end for him?

The backlash from using the skill was too immense. He could no longer bear the pain anymore nor move.

Just as he was about to pass out, he heard a familiar robotic voice.

[Detecting Fatal Situation. Emergency Activation of Attack Titan commencing .]

The world darkened around him.
